Chapter 132: Distraction

It didn’t take long before Chris joined Elsa once again and he was surprised at how fast Elsa cut the boar. She was already grilling some meat when he arrived.

"You are very good with your hands, my wife."

"Yes and no. I just cut the ones that we will eat. You can ask Hoven to cut the rest tomorrow," Elsa chuckled. She was imagining Hoven’s face when he saw that Chris managed to catch a boar while they were still in their mating ritual.

"He will surely get pissed. But he will still do it anyway."

Chris took over in grilling the boar meat while Elsa set the table on the porch. His mind kept going back to what he heard from her. He has really no plan of making love with her tonight even if he really wants to. It was just the second night of their mating ritual and because of it his sexual drive is still at its peak and is not going to drop anytime soon.

He is fully aware that he will feel like that until the fifth day before it slowly subsides. But his mate is a human and having sex multiple times a day might be too much for her. However, he can feel her emotions and read her thoughts and right now even though she focusing on setting up the table, her thoughts are the opposite.

Elsa tried to keep her mind occupied but preparing and serving the vegetables that she grilled earlier, but Chris was making it hard for her. His lascivious thoughts and desires are so loud that it is also affecting her.

It was autumn but her body felt warm and her pulse beat a little faster than normal.

She decided to distract both of them by feeding him some of the meat that was already cooked. "Is the seasoning just right?" she asked while slicing some for herself.

"Yup, it’s perfect. And I know what you are doing," Chris winked before chuckling.

"I don’t know what you are talking about. I am just checking if I seasoned it right or not." Elsa continued slicing the meat and just kept her mouth shut for she knew that Chris would not stop teasing her for he already knew what was in her mind.

Fortunately, Chris continued grilling the rest of the meat and let her off the hook... For now...

Their dinner was fun, Chris had told her how he wrestled with the big felines, fighting over a wild boar that already run away and hid well. If not for his enhanced sense of smell he wouldn’t be able to find it.

After eating they sat lay on a hammock with wine in their hands as they watched the stars above.

"Tell me about Arcanis," Elsa said.

"Well, you already know it’s in the south. In the south of it lies the Kurzen Empire, the land of the demons. There is a big and wide river separating our kingdoms. In the east is the Vrenada Kingdom, their land is split in two, half they share with us while the other half is shared with Kurzen. In the west, on another island is the Saldivar Territory, the land of the witches.

Arcanis is a rugged place there are a lot of mountains and hills and few flat lands. That’s why my father and all our ancestors keep peace with Zemaria for trade and it goes vice versa. Zemaria needed our ores for their weapons and armor."

"If the vampire kingdom is between Arcanis and Kurzen, then who do they ally with?" Elsa asked.

"They really like to be left alone, but unlike Qiryn, they do trade with us and not much with Kurzen. There are tall mountains between them and can only trade via boat. Their current king, King Stefan Dalca has maintained a good relationship with my family and so there’s a mutual understanding that he favors us more than the demons. Plus, our family also has something that he likes so much."

"And what is that?" Elsa inquired.

"You will know someday."

"But we are family already, I should know about it too!"

"I know that, but if I tell you then you will obsess about it and for now I want you to focus on me. Don’t make me jealous," Chris said before turning to Elsa and kissing her temple. He suddenly frowned when he felt what she was feeling.

"What are you afraid of?" he asked.

"If I tell you, you might get sad about it," she sighed and tried hard to not talk in her mind.

"Whatever it is, I am with you. Like you said we are family, right?"

"Chris, will I get pregnant?" there it was, she finally said it.

"Hmm, why are you asking me? Aren’t you the doctor between us two?" he answered playfully.

"That’s not what I meant. I know that a human and a werewolf can produce a child just like Laureen but what I am trying to say is this mating ritual, does it guarantee me becoming pregnant? I just don’t know how it works or the effects of it. If it somehow enhances our fertility."

"It does. But it doesn’t mean that you will get pregnant a hundred percent. Some couples do not produce offspring right away, just like in Novus. But I do want us to have babies someday. When you are ready."

"But Chris if I get pregnant now, will you allow me to join you in the war?" Elsa asked with a worried voice.

"Absolutely not! I wouldn’t want to risk our child’s life. You can heal people if the healers would allow you to but there’s no way you will be on the battlefield."

Elsa sighed and said, "I figured."

"Hey, look at me. Why would you want to be on the battlefield if you are carrying our child? Tell me what’s on your mind. I can feel that you are worried," Chris said while cupping her face with both his hands.

"I am worried that they will put a curse on you again and no one is there to dispel it. Thinking about it drives me crazy. I don’t want you getting hurt," Elsa’s eyes welled up she didn’t know when she developed that strong feelings for Chris but one thing is for sure, she loves him dearly with all her heart and soul.
