"Your Highnesses, you are required outside. It is regarding your order, Prince Christopher," the servant informed them.
"It’s time for the surprise I mentioned, princess," Chris said, extending his hand to assist her in walking.
"Oh, I thought the fire dance and fireworks were your surprise?" Elsa questioned.
Chris chuckled, "Those were just gifts for your coronation. My surprise is for you; for saying yes to being my betrothed. Besides, I don’t think you had the chance to appreciate them since I didn’t see you watching." They moved slowly toward the door as Elsa struggled to steady her knees.
"You’re right. You kept me busy, competing for attention with your gifts. How childish of you," they both laughed as they exited the room.
Upon reaching the castle grounds, Elsa observed a gathering of people in front of the stage. Curious enough, she quickened her pace until she stood before it.
As she looked at the stage, Elsa gasped and instinctively covered her mouth before turning to Chris, "No way! Is this your surprise?" she inquired.
"Do you like it?" he asked, grinning.
"I love it!" She then approached the cage positioned at the center of the stage and inquired of the person beside it, "Does it bite?"
"No, Your Highness. It is very docile; it just hatched yesterday," the servant reassured.
"Oh my goodness, it’s an infant!" Elsa exclaimed as she opened the cage and lifted the puppy-like creature with white, gray, and black patches, examining it closely. To her surprise, something stirred on its back. "It has wings?!"
"Yes, princess. It’s a mythical creature in Arcanis called Pterolycus. It has been a part of our family for generations, originating from an egg and it’s the only one left. I had one of my men discreetly bring it from Arcanis to gift it to you as an egg.
However, it unexpectedly hatched yesterday when I touched it after sustaining my injury. I believe it absorbed some of my pain and the curse, which is why my injury didn’t prove fatal," Chris explained.
"In our history, a Pterolycus symbolizes strength, independence, and freedom. The elders claim that its hatching upon my touch is a positive sign, indicating that I will triumph in the war and reclaim my kingdom to rule my people as they deserve," he added.
"Aw! So this baby can also absorb pain like your kind. Is it really mine?" Elsa inquired.
"Yes, it is. You should name it. A Pterolycus has no gender, so you can choose any name you like," Chris said enthusiastically.
"Alright, hmm... What should I call you?" Elsa cradled the pup in her arms, and it affectionately licked her nose, making her laugh.
"I believe you will bring blessings to our lives, being a blessed one. I shall call you Bendy!" Elsa said before hugging the little creature.
The onlookers in front whispered among themselves upon witnessing the creature. While they had heard tales of such a being, they couldn’t fathom that it truly existed, let alone that the Prince of Arcanis possessed it, and now it was in the possession of their princess.
The generous gift brought joy and hope to many, yet not everyone shared in the happiness. It sparked feelings of envy and jealousy.
King Allisted and Mistress Valeria observed Elsa and Chris with delight in their eyes. On the other hand, Queen Irina and Princess Milda wore sour expressions as they watched Elsa laughing beside the Prince of Arcanis, cradling the Pterolycus.
