Chapter 74: Generous

Violet patted Lucas and Lydia on the back.

"I will leave the kitchen duties to both of you," she stated, "don’t fight, and get along well, alright?"

With that, she skipped out of the kitchen.

In her hand was the camera she borrowed from Lucas. Since this was her first time handling a camera, she didn’t understand how the configuration worked.

However, Alpha should know since Sylas was informed about everything.

Lucas’s and Lydia’s eyes fell on each other. Lucas took the moment to break the long ongoing silence between them and said, "I will do the cooking. You stand at one corner, and don’t create trouble."

Lydia wasn’t fond of the tone Lucas used.

"What do you mean trouble? I know my way around the kitchen. It was great when you kept your mouth shut for days. Why did you have to open it up?" Lydia retorted.

"Sylas, guess what!" A cheerful voice exclaimed from the other side of the phone.

Sylas leaned against the wall in the alley. Under the dim lighting, his steely blue eyes held affection and joy in them.

He smiled and responded, "What happened to my dear Juliet?"

"You wouldn’t believe this! I just learned it today! I am pregnant!" Julia revealed.

Sylas’s eyes widened, and he forgot to react for a second. He slowly asked, "What?"

"That’s right, Sylas. You’re going to be a dad now. Are you too dumbfounded for words now?" Julia giggled.

"How? Why? No, no, is this for real?" Sylas fumbled for words, losing his composure.

"See, baby, that’s your dad. He was scared silly," Julia expressed.

Sylas felt his heart burst with excitement.

"How are you feeling, Julia? I heard pregnancy is really tough on women. Is the child troubling you?" Sylas asked.

"How can it trouble me? It’s just a month long. But the baby is waiting for its father."

Sylas nodded. "Right, I should be there by your side. I will be there right away. I should have been there to take care of you. Sorry, you have to handle it all on your own."

"Take it easy, Sylas. Come back once you’re done with everything. There’s everyone in the pack to take care of us. Nothing will happen. The baby and I are waiting for you," Julia said.

Sylas’s face dropped, and he sighed. freёweɓnovel_com

"But I don’t want to. I want to be by your side."

"Now, be a good boy, Sylas. You are going to be a father now. You need to be more mature," Julia pointed out.

"Julia, I miss you a lot," Sylas expressed.

Before he could hear Julia’s response, a voice called him, "Alpha?"

"Julia," he muttered, opening his eyes.

In front of him was Violet’s face. She leaned towards him, and her widened eyes stared at him. Sylas rubbed his forehead.

Once again, he dreamed of Julia.

Unfortunately, the next time he saw her, he was met with her brutally, murdered cold corpse.

Violet stepped back to sit on the couch beside Sylas’s. Folding her legs up, she hugged them and stared at Sylas curiously.

"Were you dreaming of your mate?" Violet questioned.

Sylas stared at her for few seconds, then nodded.

"It must have been a good dream then."

No, it was quite the contrary. Thinking of that day only filled him up with regrets. If only he prioritized Julia more and went over to the pack, he would’ve been able to protect her.

None of the tragedy would have happened.

"What are you here for?" Sylas brushed aside the topic.

"I borrowed the camera from Lucas and figured you would be good at it. Teach me, Alpha," Violet requested, holding the camera forward. Her round hazel eyes stared at him pleadingly.

Sylas’s hand reached out for the camera in her hand. He messed around with the camera for a while, pressing different buttons.

"It has been a while," he said. There was nostalgia in his voice.

"Were you interested in photography, Alpha?" Violet questioned.

Sylas shook her head. "I found it boring."

Then, after a moment of silence, he continued, "But, Julia, she loved photography— something about preserving the memory. She taught me how to use the camera."

This was the first time Sylas talked about his mate with her. There was a hint of affection and vulnerability in his tone— different from his usual self.

Violet wondered whether because he just dreamed about Julia or felt close to her now that he decided to open up about it.

The meeting place decided between James and Mathew was outside the pack, in front of the mine James vied after. After much persuasion, Mathew convinced James to not visit the Blue Rise pack.

He didn’t want James and Stanley to meet, so that more trouble will be brewed.

"I am telling you, you either talk to that Beta of your pack about the rights to the mine or I will be trampling over your entire pack. You wouldn’t want to deal with the anger of Yellow Arrow pack," threatened James.

Mathew stated, "Alpha James, you see I am in a helpless position as well. I have no rights as well."

James scoffed. "Indeed, a lowly bastard shouldn’t be an Alpha. You can’t even control your own Beta. Alpha Mathew, you should know I hate suffering from a loss."

Mathew suppressed the anger within him.

"Alpha James, well, give me more time. I am sure Stanley isn’t Violet’s actual guardian. Everything will be fixed in time."

"Time! Time! How much more time should I give you? You must think I am really generous, right, Alpha Mathew? I am telling you, if I don’t see everything handled in three days, forget about being the Alpha. I know right where Luna Violet is and all about your dirty crimes. Don’t make me expose you."

With that, James turned his back on him, about to walk away.

Threatened in this manner, James couldn’t hold back his rage any longer. He bowed down to pick up a rock from the ground and hit it directly at vital point in James’s neck.

James’s body fell down the next instant.
