THE RISE OF AN OMEGA-Chapter 61: Unexpected Allies
Kira’s POV
"Kira!" Emilia called out. She rushed over to where I was. I had followed Ryker to the pack’s Palace. Ever since the battle, I had not been there. I saw so many faces which were once my enemy, but now they all had a certain level of respect for me.
Some would even bow their head just to greet me. I saw the two male wolves I had fought some months earlier when I had just been training to be stronger. Back then, I had not even discovered my moonkeeper abilities. They were much more calm and respectful now.
So this is what power does—it brings people to your feet, it grants you respect.
"Hey moonkeeper, I hear you will be embarking on a quest soon."
I looked up to see Isabella standing in front of me, arms folded. I was a little bit confused because she wasn’t looking at me with the kind of eye she used to look at me with. She was not behaving like the mean bitch she is.
No offense but, she was really a bitch a few months ago. Though the night of the battle I noticed something different about her, but I wasn’t expecting her to continue being like that after the battle had ended. I expected everyone to go back to their normal self, but they didn’t.
It felt like they had all changed.
All because I had powers, all because I was stronger now.
"Are you going to ignore me, or pretend like I am not standing before you?"
"Oh uhm, yeah, no, I am sorry," I exhaled.
Isabella chuckled. "Calm down, moonkeeper. I won’t bite you, neither did I come here to fight you."
"I am sorry, Isabella. I was just lost in thoughts."
"So, I heard you are going in search of that thing," she said, pointing her finger to the diagram on my arms.
"Yes, we need it to defeat the entity."
"That guy is really a pain in the ass, right?"
I chuckled. "Yeah, he is."
"I heard he’s been giving you a tough time lately, too."
"How did you know that?"
"News flies," she smiled. "Well, if you need my help, maybe you need to gather up a team that’s gonna go with you. I will be very happy to lend a helping hand." She winked. "Besides, the pack has been boring lately. I can use some fun."
She patted my shoulder and left.
I still couldn’t believe that Isabella and I had a conversation where we both smiled and chuckled together.
Unbelievable.
"I guess everyone is beginning to see you for who you are now," Emilia said from behind.
"When did you get here?" I asked.
"I have been standing behind you the whole time you’ve been talking to Isabella."
"Really?"
"Yes."
"I am so sorry, I didn’t notice."
"It’s fine."
Emilia began to ask me about the entity and the moonstone. I told her about all the battles I had fought. I told her about all the illusion spaces he had taken me into, and then I told her about the vision I had—the one where Asher was alive.
She couldn’t believe that I had gone through all of those things. Just as we were discussing, the bell that signifies a general pack meeting was rung. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
"I guess the alpha has something to say to us," Emilia remarked.
I nodded.
I knew what he was about to ask. Initially, I was against the idea, but Ryker, as stubborn as he is, wouldn’t listen to me, so I had no choice but to agree.
We went to the pack meeting ground, and there he stood at the centre, in an open space, with other wolves standing around.
"It’s been a while since we’ve had a meeting like this," he began. "Ever since the battle with our rival pack, we’ve not even had the time to see each other like this." He paused, his eyes rolled over from one side to the other. "I don’t know how many of us are aware of an entity, or how many of us saw the entity that swallowed up the enemy and his golden-eyed wolves. That entity is after the werewolf race."
"Are you sure it’s after the werewolf race, or is it after just a single person?" someone in the crowd remarked.
"If this entity is after just one person, then let’s just give it what it wants," another wolf said.
I could sense fear in the person’s voice. I never would have thought that someone in the pack would suggest that. But I understood what fear can make you do.
I stood quietly by the side, watching and listening to how Ryker kept trying to convince them that the entity wasn’t just after one person, wasn’t just after me, that he was after the whole werewolf race, but some of them weren’t listening.
"Let her go, so we can have peace of mind," one of them blurted out.
They didn’t understand what was before them. They didn’t know that even if I die if I’m handed over to the entity, it still wouldn’t stop him from destroying the whole world. From the last trance I had, seeing all the werewolves he turned into dark entities...
Seeing how he was siphoning power from the moonstone and Asher, I understood that he could be planning to become an alpha wolf just so he could control all the werewolf races.
"I know you all are scared," I interrupted.
All eyes were fixed on me.
"I know you think if you hand me over to the darkness, you will be free," I said, walking majestically to the centre. "I know you think that my death would be the end of your suffering." I paused and took in a deep breath. "I am sorry, but my death wouldn’t make him stop. My death would only be the beginning of it all because he’s only going to get stronger after absorbing my powers."
Everywhere had become silent at this point—no more side talks, murmuring, and grumbling—just total silence.
I continued, "The entity plans to become one of us, so he can have dominion over every werewolf that exists on this planet." I paused, waiting to see the reactions on their faces. I got what I wanted. They all had these confused and bothered looks on their faces.
"In the last vision I saw, I saw how he turned almost every one of us into dark entities just like him, everyone bowing down at his feet. If we don’t find a way to destroy him, then we will be bound to him as slaves forever."
"And that is why we have come to tell you all that we will be embarking on a journey to find the artefact, the moonstone, that would bring the entity to an end," Ryker announced.
The uproar started again.
"Don’t worry, we won’t be burdening you all with the task of going with us," I remarked.
Immediately, everywhere became calm.
I smiled.
"But if you would love to join us, we would be glad to have you on the team. But I need you to know that the path that leads to the moonstone would be very dangerous." Ryker’s eyes gleamed with a mix of determination and warning as he held my gaze, his voice steady but edged with gravity.
No one seemed to be interested. I, for one, was glad that no one volunteered. I didn’t want to put anyone’s life at risk. I was only doing this because Ryker insisted we do it.
But to my greatest surprise, Isabella came out as the first volunteer, followed by Marcus, Clara, and Emilia.
A hushed silence fell over the gathering as Isabella stepped forward. Her expression was unreadable, but there was a certain fire in her eyes that hadn’t been there before. She smirked slightly as she crossed her arms.
"Well, someone has to make sure you don’t get yourself killed, moonkeeper," she said, tilting her head at me.
I blinked, still trying to process the fact that Isabella—of all people—was volunteering. Before I could respond, Marcus stepped forward, his stance firm and resolute.
"I’ll go too," he declared. "If this thing is coming for our kind, I’m not just going to sit back and wait for it to destroy us."
Clara, one of the pack’s best trackers, nodded and stepped beside him. "Same here. Besides, you’re gonna need someone who can sniff out danger before it finds us."
And then, Emilia took a step forward.
"I’m coming too," she said firmly.
I turned to her, my eyes widening. "Emilia, you don’t have to—"
"I know," she interrupted, her voice gentle but unwavering. "But I want to. I may not have your abilities, Kira, but I won’t stand by while you go off to face this alone. We all have something to fight for."
For a moment, I couldn’t speak. I had convinced myself that no one would join us, that no one would want to take this risk. But here they were, standing with me.
Ryker gave me a knowing look before turning to the rest of the pack. "Anyone else?"
Silence.
"Alright then," he said. "We leave at dawn."
As the meeting ended, I glanced at my newfound allies. The journey ahead would be treacherous, but for the first time in a long while, I didn’t feel alone.
