Chapter 34: The Second vision

Kira’s POV

My hands shook while I opened the letter, my heart racing in my ears. The parchment was coarse against my fingers, the ink pronounced and purposeful, as if every word had been etched with care.

My gaze quickly scanned the initial lines, and a chill coursed down my back.

"This was simply an experiment, Moonkeeper." A glimpse of what lies ahead. "You might have triumphed in this battle, but the true conflict starts now."

I tightened my jaw. Asher’s hubris seeped into each word, his self-assurance unsettling. He penned it as if the result had been predetermined, almost as if destiny itself favored him. My breath caught when I glimpsed the next section.

"You cannot escape your fate." "I understand what you are turning into."

My stomach churned. He was aware. In some way, he was aware of my talents—of the visions and the strength developing within me. But in what way? Was someone providing him with information? Or could he have been observing me from the darkness?

Next, the concluding line.

"You are unprepared for what I will reveal next."

I clenched my grip harder, knuckles pale. Whatever Asher was scheming, it was much worse than I had envisioned. I didn’t know if we were ready for it.

A knot formed in my stomach as I reread the words as if saying them again could alter their significance. But no—Asher’s mockery was evident. To him, this conflict was merely a game, a trial to assess our power. And now, he was getting ready for something much more terrible.

My fingers wrapped around the paper, my nails pressing into the frayed edges. For how long had he been observing? What was his level of knowledge? The notion that he was conscious of my Moonkeeper skills brought a new surge of discomfort within me. I had just started to grasp what I was turning into, and yet Asher talked as if he understood more than I did.

I inhaled slowly and unsteadily, trying to calm my racing heart. This was not the moment for fear. Asher sought to unsettle me, to instill self-doubt in me before the actual conflict had even started. I wouldn’t allow him.

However, my eyes returned to the final line once more.

"You are unprepared for what I will reveal next."

The words held a heaviness that rested profoundly in my chest. What was his scheme? What type of force was he ready to unleash upon us? And even more crucial—would we make it through?

I assembled Ryker, Marcus, Emilia, and the others in the war room, my thoughts still spinning from Asher’s message. The atmosphere was charged the air heavy with silent anxieties. I noticed it in their eyes—they were all aware this wasn’t finished. The conflict we had just faced was merely the start.

"Asher is organizing something significant," I stated, setting the letter down on the wooden table for them to view. "This assault was an experiment." He’s observing us, assessing our power.

Marcus folded his arms, his face stern. "Thus, we ought to attack first." "Attack him before he has a chance to prepare."

I wished to concur, but something restrained me. "It isn’t that straightforward." If we enter this without caution, we’ll be stepping into a snare. Asher is too clever to allow us to surprise him.

Ryker acknowledged with a nod, his jaw clenched. "Next, we strengthen our defenses and get ready for an extended battle."

I gulped deeply. I disliked the idea of waiting, of responding instead of taking action, but Ryker was correct. We needed to be clever. Whatever Asher was scheming, it wasn’t merely another battle—it was warfare. If we were unprepared, we wouldn’t endure it.

A hush descended upon the room as all contemplated what I had said. The burden of the impending conflict weighed heavily on us, dense and overwhelming. Emilia moved awkwardly before she began to speak. "We require more than merely reinforced defenses." "If Asher possesses an additional weapon, something we’re unaware of, how do we get ready for it?"

She was correct. We were battling without sight against an opponent who understood more than we did. I swept my fingers through my hair, irritation simmering just below the surface. "I’m unsure at the moment," I confessed, "but I refuse to let us enter this unready." We require additional details—regarding Asher, these golden-eyed wolves, and anything he’s hiding from us.

Ryker bent forward, his eyes intense. "Next, we dispatch scouts." We monitor their actions and determine precisely what we’re facing before we take any action.

Marcus sighed heavily. "And what happens if we delay too much?" What if Asher attacks before we are prepared?

I locked eyes with him, unflinching. "Next, we battle with all our resources." However, we will not act irresponsibly. "We cannot permit ourselves to be."

A significant pause ensued, yet I could observe the determination forming on their faces. Regardless of what happened next, we would be prepared—or we would perish attempting.

Just as I was on the verge of speaking again, an odd feeling crept over my skin, resembling frigid fingers gliding down my back. The space around me faded at the borders, and before I had a chance to respond, the world changed.

I was no longer present in the war room.

Darkness spread out in front of me, interrupted solely by the haunting shine of golden eyes cutting through the gloom. Warriors advanced with lethal accuracy, their blows quick and merciless. Their actions were not only proficient—they were intended to eliminate without pause. The air was filled with the scent of blood and steel as their weapons struck flesh. The scene sent a shiver down my spine. This was not training. It was a setup for killing.

Next, my eyes focused on the shape at the heart of it all. Asher. His voice sounded clear, strong, and authoritative. He hovered above a big map, his fingers following the design of our land. He was devising his assault in real-time, each element aligning with careful accuracy.

However, he was not by himself. A large, dark form towered next to him, its existence eerie. Dense and oppressive, dark energy emanated from it.

Before I could view anything further, the sight disappeared, and I stepped back, breathing heavily.

The environment surrounding me came back into clarity, yet my body felt wobbly as if I had been pulled from one existence to a different one. I breathed in quick, irregular intervals, my heart pounding against my chest. Asher’s voice still resonated in my thoughts, and I could still sense the suffocating shadow of that horrific being next to him.

"Kira!" Ryker’s voice pierced through my fog. His hands held my shoulders firmly, balancing me. "What just occurred?"

I blinked quickly, attempting to move beyond the persistent heaviness of the vision. "I witnessed them," I murmured, my voice hoarse. "Asher’s troops." "He’s getting them ready for an important event." 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖

The rest shared apprehensive looks, but Ryker’s face grew serious with comprehension. "Where is it?" "What did you observe?"

I gulped down. They were not merely training—they were honing their formations, refining their movements for effective kills. And Asher... he was strategizing the assault while examining a map of our land. I paused, the recollection of that shadowy presence coursing another shiver through me. "However, there was an additional element." An individual—or an entity—was alongside him. It wasn’t normal, Ryker. It seemed... incorrect."

The room became quiet, the impact of my words settling in. Whatever Asher had beside him, it wasn’t merely another wolf.

I inhaled deeply, compelling myself to move beyond the persistent fear coiling in my chest. "This was not merely a dream," I stated resolutely, meeting the gaze of each one. "I was present." I could hear Asher speaking and observe the movements of his warriors. I could sense the scent of blood in the atmosphere. "It was genuine."

Emilia moved ahead, her gaze imbued with worry. "Your visions... they’re becoming more intense, Kira." "This is not the same as it was previously."

I gave a nod. "I believe my Moonkeeper skills are developing." "I didn’t merely observe them—I was present as if I had entered their realm for an instant." I glanced at Ryker. "This indicates that we hold a benefit." "If I can continue accessing these visions, I can foresee their strategies before they even attack."

Marcus, always the doubter, squinted his eyes. "What if Asher is aware that you’re observing?" "What if he’s leveraging this against you?"

A chilling awareness dawned on me. I hadn’t thought about that option, but the way Asher’s words stayed with me... I understand what you’re turning into.

I tightened my hands into fists. "Then I must proceed with caution." However, if we utilize this correctly, we can shift this conflict to our advantage before it even starts.
