The Revenge of the Reborn Supreme Sovereign-Chapter 62 - 61: Yes and No!
On the highway, after hanging up Ye Jizu’s call, Qin Fan slammed his palm onto the steering wheel’s horn yet again.
This feeling of helplessness was too overwhelming! If it weren’t for his connection to Ye Jizu, what would the situation be like? Even if he could defy the heavens, could he really fly hundreds of kilometers back to Jiangzhou in the blink of an eye? It would be different if he were at the Foundation Establishment Stage. Even if he couldn’t return in the blink of an eye, a journey of a few hundred kilometers wouldn’t take too much time. Not like now, when he had to rely on this thing that felt as slow as a snail.
The urgency for greater strength surged within him once more.
Correspondingly, Qin Fan stomped the accelerator to the floor. The needle on the speedometer shot up to 240 as the white Bentley, like a sprite, wove through the sea of cars. Ignoring the traffic cameras and electronic speed limits, under the control of his True Qi, the Bentley didn’t suffer a single scratch or collision.
On the highway, shouts of alarm rose one after another. Whenever someone tried to pull out their phone to record, the white Bentley would vanish from sight like a fleeting ghost.
The journey of over three hundred kilometers, driven in a mad rush, took exactly two hours. The white Bentley appeared outside Chunhu Garden.
"Qin—!"
Ye Jizu, who had been waiting for a long time, hurried over the moment he saw Qin Fan. Before he could finish his greeting, Qin Fan held up a hand to stop him.
Wordlessly, he strode to the Alphard and pulled open the door.
The sight that met his eyes was Ji Yuchen, unconscious. Her hair was a mess, her face streaked with tears. The delicate beauty of her features had lost all its former grace. Her pale face was a mask of lingering terror. Even in her unconscious state, her bruised hands tightly clutched the torn fabric of her blouse.
At this sight, the rage in Qin Fan’s chest nearly exploded.
Ji Yuchen, so spirited and carefree, had been driven to this? Driven to the point of fainting from fright! Driven to the point where terror haunted her even in unconsciousness!
Clenching his jaw, he suppressed the erupting inferno. Qin Fan moved to Ji Yuchen’s side, tore down the Alphard’s window curtain, and used it to cover her. He gently reached out, preparing to pick her up.
But the instant his hand touched her, her eyes shot open and she screamed.
"Don’t! Don’t! Please, don’t!"
Ji Yuchen flailed wildly at Qin Fan, shaking her head violently as if in a frenzy.
Watching this, a sharp pain pierced his heart. He suddenly thought of Jiang Yino and her sister from his past life.
Were they just as terrified and desperate as Ji Yuchen back then? No... they must have been even more horrified! At least Ji Yuchen was rescued, but they had endured that endless, lightless torture!
The memories, like a knife to the heart, were a wellspring of hatred. Qin Fan shook his head, forcefully clearing his mind. He then moved swiftly, grasping Ji Yuchen’s shoulders firmly.
Shaking her, he called out, "It’s me, Qin Fan! Ji Yuchen, wake up!"
"Qin Fan... Qin Fan... Qin Fan..."
At his words, Ji Yuchen suddenly fell still, ceaselessly murmuring his name.
"That’s right. It’s okay now. It’s all over, don’t be afraid. Everything is fine," Qin Fan soothed her gently. He reached out and tucked a stray lock of her disheveled hair behind her ear.
At his touch, however, Ji Yuchen let out a wail and burst into sobs, throwing her arms around him. Tears streamed down her face as she vented her terror. "Qin Fan, I was so scared, so scared! That beast, He Haolin, he was going to... he was going to—"
She kept choking on her words, kept crying, never managing to say what he had intended.
"It’s okay now. Don’t be afraid," Qin Fan said, patting her on the back. He wasn’t particularly good at comforting people and hesitated for a moment. "Alright, don’t cry. I’ll take you to buy some new clothes, then we’ll go to school."
Gently pushing her away, Qin Fan offered a forced smile.
She stared blankly at his face for several long seconds before finally nodding.
"Okay, let’s get out then," Qin Fan said.
"Qin Fan, my legs are numb! I can’t walk," Ji Yuchen said, biting her lip. His smile seemed to have subtly eased some of her psychological trauma.
"Should I carry you on my back?" Qin Fan asked.
Her clear eyes, still shimmering with tears, stared at him. Ji Yuchen hesitated before nodding with some embarrassment.
A genuine, heartfelt smile touched Qin Fan’s lips. Without another word, he turned around and crouched down with his back to her. Since they were classmates, she didn’t stand on ceremony. A blush crept across her cheeks as she slowly shifted onto his back.
Ye Jizu watched Qin Fan carry Ji Yuchen step by step back to the white Bentley, but he didn’t approach to disturb them. Instead, his gaze fell upon He Haolin, who was sprawled on the ground, as still as a dead dog. His eyes filled with sorrow.
Inside the white Bentley, the moment she sat down, Ji Yuchen reached out and grabbed Qin Fan’s hand. Looking up at him, she said, "Qin Fan, I think I saw He Haolin lying motionless on the ground just now!"
"Mm, anyone who does wrong must pay the price," Qin Fan replied with a faint smirk, his voice tinged with a hint of world-weariness.
"Did you call those people?" Ji Yuchen asked again, her eyes fixed on his.
"Yes and no," Qin Fan answered with an indifferent smile, giving an ambiguous reply.
At that moment, sitting in the Bentley, Ji Yuchen was no longer consumed by her earlier terror. She was completely lost in the mystery that was Qin Fan.
How did Qin Fan know she was in danger? How did he know she was inside a soundproofed van? Who were those people who saved her and left He Haolin motionless on the ground? And this Bentley, a car worth millions... how could Qin Fan afford to drive it?
Countless question marks filled her mind. She realized she couldn’t understand Qin Fan at all. Or perhaps, the truth was that she had never understood him in the first place.
This version of Qin Fan completely overturned her perception of him from the past few years! Was this Qin Fan truly a coward? A loser? Everyone at Qi Middle School was wrong, so wrong!
"Alright, there’s no flower on my face, so stop staring. Wait in the car for a moment. I’ll go take care of something, and then we’ll leave," Qin Fan said with a light smile, pulling his hand away.
As if by some strange impulse, just as he pulled his hand away, Ji Yuchen reached out and grabbed it again, seemingly forgetting how intimate the gesture was.
"Qin Fan, He Haolin didn’t actually do anything to me... no real harm was done. Don’t get yourself into trouble because of me! Promise me. I don’t want to live with guilt for the rest of my life!"
She kept her countless questions to herself, choosing instead to say this. She wasn’t a fool; she could see that Qin Fan intended to deal with He Haolin.
"Don’t worry, it’ll be fine. Wait for me," Qin Fan said, once again freeing his hand with a faint smile.
He slammed the Bentley’s door shut. An arrogant, sinister chill settled on his face as he strode directly toward He Haolin.
