The Revenge of the Reborn Supreme Sovereign-Chapter 49 - 48: If You’re in Danger, Call Me!
One was a boy who could make even Ye Jizu flaunt, and the other was a charming, roguish girl of peerless beauty. To say they weren’t a couple, that nothing was going on between them... Ma Yunbin, a man accustomed to romantic dalliances, would die before he believed it. That was why this conversation had occurred. He just never expected his flattery to backfire so spectacularly.
"What are you talking about? Qin Fan and I are classmates and friends! This meal is my way of apologizing for how I treated him in the past. It’s not what you think!" Ji Yuchen explained hurriedly, her face flushed.
In truth, she only saw Qin Fan as a classmate and friend. As for being his girlfriend, even she felt it was impossible. For her, this was about assuaging her own guilt, nothing more.
Uh-oh... a misunderstanding?
Hearing Ji Yuchen’s words, Ma Yunbin was overcome with embarrassment.
"Alright, there’s nothing for you here. You can go," Qin Fan said with a resigned, wry smile, waving him away.
In this awkward situation, Ma Yunbin was too embarrassed to stay, even though he still wanted to curry favor with Qin Fan. "Okay, okay, Mr. Qin, I won’t disturb you any longer!" he said quickly. With a nod from Qin Fan, he scurried down the stairs.
After Ma Yunbin left, the blush finally faded from Ji Yuchen’s cheeks. She gave Qin Fan a strange look, seeming to want to say something but hesitating several times.
"If you have something to say, just say it," Qin Fan said with a light, helpless laugh, shaking his head.
"Qin Fan, can you tell me what’s been going on with you? I know who Ma Yunbin is—he’s the nephew of that influential principal. He even gave Ye Haoyuan the cold shoulder, so why is he acting like that toward you? And I’ve heard of the Mountain and Water Manor, too. How did you end up in a place like that?" A stream of questions poured from Ji Yuchen’s lips as she looked at him with eager expectation.
"A twist of fate, pure coincidence!"
Honestly, Qin Fan didn’t really know how to answer these questions. Still, he simply smiled and responded with an air of perfect sincerity.
A twist of fate? Pure coincidence? That’s his answer?
Ji Yuchen was stunned that Qin Fan would be so evasive.
"Alright, let’s not talk about that. Let’s talk about you," Qin Fan said, changing the subject and looking her straight in the eye. "Now that you’ve completely burned your bridges with He Haolin, what do you plan to do? Honestly, doing that because of me wasn’t worth it. It really wasn’t."
Pulled from her daze by his question, Ji Yuchen quickly set aside her earlier curiosity. She bit her lip, her face filled with a lingering worry, but then she heaved a long sigh of relief. "It’s for the best," she said. "At least he won’t pester me anymore, and I won’t have to feel like I’m living under constant surveillance!"
"Do you think he’ll let this go so easily?" Qin Fan asked calmly with a smile.
"Anyway, I have a clear conscience. I feel so much better now that I’ve finally said what’s been on my mind for so long. That’s enough for me! As for what He Haolin might do, who knows? I suppose he wouldn’t dare to go too far!" Ji Yuchen replied with some naivete.
She underestimated a man’s stubbornness when it came to his dignity and pride, especially a young master of He Haolin’s stature. Could he remain indifferent after such a great humiliation?
Impossible!
He wouldn’t let Qin Fan off, and he wouldn’t spare Ji Yuchen either. Unless, of course, Ji Yuchen agreed to be with him.
"Give me your hand," Qin Fan said suddenly, his tone serious.
"Why?" Ji Yuchen asked, confused. Still, she trusted Qin Fan and extended her small hand toward him.
Without another word, Qin Fan placed his hand on her wrist. He had yet to find the raw materials to forge a Magic Artifact, so he couldn’t give her anything for self-defense. With a solemn expression, he circulated True Qi from his Dantian, channeling it through his fingers and into Ji Yuchen’s body.
"Qin Fan, what are you doing?" Ji Yuchen asked, blinking her innocent, slightly dazed eyes.
"There, it’s done," Qin Fan said seriously, releasing her hand. "If you’re ever in danger, call my name. I’ll appear before you as fast as I can!"
Without a Magic Artifact, all he could do was leave a trace of True Qi coiled around her heart and lungs. If she was in danger and called his name, he would naturally sense the ripple in his True Qi. What he didn’t tell her was that this method would only last for a month. However, a month was more than enough time. As long as he could forge a Magic Artifact by then, everything would be fine.
"Are you kidding me, Qin Fan?" Ji Yuchen laughed, clearly not believing a word. "You think you’re some kind of unification of Sharp-Hearing Ear and the Earth-Traveler Sun, appearing before me in the blink of an eye? I never knew you were so humorous. Then again, I’ve barely ever heard you speak before!"
Qin Fan just smiled faintly, unconcerned. He was confident that his words were now etched in her mind. If she were ever in real danger, truly helpless, she would be driven by instinct and her subconscious to call out his name.
For his first friend since his rebirth, Qin Fan cared a great deal.
But everything is a matter of cause and effect. If Ji Yuchen hadn’t clashed with He Haolin to protect him, would he have done this?
Absolutely not!
His five hundred years in the Cangqiong Continent had forged his heart into stone. In this new life, the number of people he would recognize as friends would be exceedingly small. Luckily for her, Ji Yuchen had become one of them. She had passed his test, though the girl herself had no idea what that truly meant.
Consider the Ye Family, Ye Congjun, and Ye Jizu; consider the influential principal and Ma Yunbin. They were all racking their brains for a way to build even the smallest connection with Qin Fan. This just went to show how profound the meaning of the word "friend" truly was.
Shaking his head, Qin Fan didn’t respond to her joke. Instead, he smiled and said, "Just remember what I said. Alright, enough of that. We’ve finished eating. Let’s go."
"Okay, I’ll remember!" Ji Yuchen replied cheerfully, still treating it all as a joke. "Don’t worry, if I’m ever in real danger, I’ll be sure to shout your name!"
With that, she followed Qin Fan down the stairs.
As they stepped out of the restaurant, Ji Yuchen was about to say something more when Qin Fan’s brow suddenly furrowed. A flash of ecstatic joy appeared on his face.
"You go on ahead," he said to her quickly. "I have something to do, so I’m leaving!" 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
With that, he dashed off in the direction of the school administration building, leaving Ji Yuchen staring after him in stunned confusion.
The moment he had walked out of the restaurant, he had distinctly sensed the aura of Gathering Spirit Grass. The plant typically grew in large patches. If he could find where it was growing and set up a Spirit Gathering Array...
What did that mean?
Qin Fan could barely contain his excitement at the very thought.
