Chapter 380: Chapter 370: Cleverness Misleads Cleverness! (12)

Du Tiancong! The person Qin Fan hated most from his past life! He had wished he could break his limbs inch by inch, hack him into a thousand pieces, flay his skin, pull his tendons, and drain his blood!

Now, an entire lifetime later, the wheels of fate had turned right on time. As if destined, Du Tiancong officially entered Qin Fan’s world.

Though the chilling, murderous intent was fleeting, it was still deeply felt by Chang Yuanyi and Ma Yunbin. Terrified, the two of them froze on the spot before crying out in unison, "Lord Qin, what’s wrong?"

"It’s nothing. Let’s go." The chill fading, Qin Fan, with his back still to them, let a grim smile form on his lips, like that of a Shura from Hell. With that, he slipped his hands into his pockets and cast a fleeting glance at the young man off to the side before striding out the door.

To kill Du Tiancong and annihilate the Du Family, Qin Fan had ten thousand ways to make them vanish from the Human World without a trace. But he wouldn’t use such methods. He intended to make Du Tiancong repay the debt from his past life in the most brutal and tragic way possible. He would watch as Du Tiancong and the Du Family were slowly consumed by despair, forced to suffer in a world of endless shadow, and then die a slow, agonizing death.

A quick, clean death? Out of the question!

However, Qin Fan’s seemingly casual glance sent an inexplicable chill right through Du Tiancong.

"Why did it suddenly get so cold?" Du Tiancong blurted out instinctively.

"It didn’t, Young Master Du. It feels the same to us," a few of the other rich kids behind him replied, bewildered.

It didn’t? Du Tiancong’s lips parted and closed silently as he scanned the area ahead. Just then, Chang Yuanyi came into view.

He was startled for a moment, then overjoyed. A smile burst across his face as he called out with a joyous laugh, "Young Master Chang!"

"Hmm?" Chang Yuanyi, who had been pondering Qin Fan’s unusual aura, was pulled from his thoughts by the shout. He paused and turned toward the voice.

"Young Master Chang! It’s me, Du Tiancong! We’ve met before. My father, Du Zhengxu, had dinner with you, and I was with him!" Du Tiancong said, leading a few other wealthy scions of a slightly lower standing than himself as he ran over with a fawning expression.

Hearing the commotion behind him and realizing Du Tiancong knew Chang Yuanyi, Qin Fan felt a playful, wicked smile touch his lips. As if he knew Chang Yuanyi and Ma Yunbin were about to call out to him, he abruptly raised a hand. The name "Lord Qin" was on the tips of their tongues, but his gesture forced them to swallow it back down.

"No need to see me out. I’ll see myself out," Qin Fan announced before his figure passed through the clubhouse’s revolving door.

Watching Qin Fan’s retreating back, Du Tiancong, who had reached Chang Yuanyi’s side, gave a sycophantic smile. "Young Master Chang, who was that?"

"None of your business. If you have something to say, spit it out!" Chang Yuanyi said coldly, giving Du Tiancong an annoyed glance.

His warm greeting was met with a cold rebuke. His initial joy was doused with a bucket of cold water. Du Tiancong clenched his jaw, swallowing his pride, and said with an awkward smile, "Young Master Chang, it’s about my father—"

"For fuck’s sake, stop stammering like a little girl! Forget it, don’t even bother. I don’t want to hear it, so get the hell out of here!" Chang Yuanyi snapped, flicking his hand dismissively as he started to walk away.

Seeing this, Du Tiancong ground his teeth in silent fury and hurried after him. "Young Master Chang! Young Master Chang!"

"Goddammit! Are you stupid? Do you not understand plain language? I told you to get lost!" Chang Yuanyi growled, his anger flaring.

"You’ve got quite the temper! Cool it and give the man a chance to speak. What’s the big deal?" Ma Yunbin interjected with an amused smirk.

HUFF. HUFF. Taking two deep breaths to compose himself, Chang Yuanyi looked at Ma Yunbin with a wry smile. "Young Master Ma, you don’t understand. This is complicated. But since you asked, fine. I’ll give him a chance to speak."

With that, Chang Yuanyi turned to Du Tiancong. "I remember you. At the dinner at Qi Yu Hotel. That little punk from Shanghai was your father, right?"

Punk? Hearing the insult, Du Tiancong nearly ground his teeth to dust. But as someone who would later become remarkably cunning and ruthless, he could endure such humiliation.

Transforming his anger into flattery, he put on a fawning smile. "Yes, Young Master Chang! I’m Du Zhengxu’s son, Du Tiancong."

"I don’t care who your father is, and I care even less about who you are. If you have something to say, say it," Chang Yuanyi stated coldly.

"Young Master Chang, last time at the dinner, my father was hoping you could help him with acquiring a few plots of land in the East District. It’s been a while, so I wanted to ask... does our Du Family still have a chance?" Du Tiancong, who was still in his final year of university but had already spent years learning the ways of business from his father, gazed at Chang Yuanyi with an intensely fawning expression.

"Young Master Ma, now do you see why I couldn’t be bothered with him?" Chang Yuanyi asked, turning back to Ma Yunbin with a helpless smile. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢

"He’s hitting you up for land? Heh, now that’s fucking interesting," Ma Yunbin said, sizing up Du Tiancong with a playful expression. To be honest, he admired that someone of Du Tiancong’s age and status had the guts to even try something like this. But for some reason, Du Tiancong made him extremely uncomfortable, though he couldn’t say exactly why.

"Exactly," Chang Yuanyi sighed, then faced Du Tiancong again. "If you want to know the time of the auction, I can ask for you. But if you’re asking me for land, you’ve got the wrong person. First, that land belongs to the state and is managed by the municipal government. Second, even with the city managing it, the winners are decided through a public auction. That’s the procedure. Understand?"

"Thank you for the guidance, Young Master Chang. I understand." Du Tiancong nodded, then persisted, his gaze flickering thoughtfully toward Ma Yunbin. "Young Master Chang, could I get your number? Maybe we can get together sometime?"

"Fuck me! Are you genuinely stupid, or just playing dumb? I have no interest in being friends with you. If you want information about land, go to the municipal building and ask the relevant departments! Stop fucking pestering me! There’s a saying about being too clever for your own good. Don’t be. Understand?"

If Ma Yunbin hadn’t been there, Chang Yuanyi was certain he would have lost control and kicked the man. It was true that Chang Yuanyi had brokered many under-the-table deals. However, he only did so when the offered price was nearly identical to the municipal government’s expectations. All he did was eliminate potential mishaps and unnecessary complications from the process.

But the situation with those plots in the East District was so sensitive that the major real estate tycoons in Jinling were on the verge of coming to blows over them. Under circumstances like these, he had already started distancing himself from the matter. Why would he help a real estate developer from Shanghai pull strings?

He had originally considered that if another opportunity arose, he might help Du Zhengxu build a relationship with the municipal government. But now, filled with the disgust Du Tiancong had brought upon him, he couldn’t be bothered anymore. He didn’t give a damn who helped them now.
