Chapter 374: Chapter 364: Pack Up and Run Away! (6)

He hung up the phone. Li Yunzhe’s complexion turned deathly pale.

Looking at Qin Fan, he stammered, "Big Brother, my uncle said we have to go! Now! If we fall into the hands of those bastards, the consequences... they’ll be unimaginable!"

At Li Yunzhe’s words, Li Qiuzhe and the other two snapped out of their stupor, their faces filled with panic.

If we just leave, what about our studies? The semester just started... military training isn’t even over, and we’re supposed to take a long-term leave? Is that even possible?!

"Fourth, what-what do we do?" The three of them turned to look at Qin Fan. In a few short days, he had already become the backbone of Room 708.

"Ask your uncle who’s backing that baldy," Qin Fan said to Li Yunzhe nonchalantly. "What’s his name? What’s his background?"

"Big Brother, I heard his name is Chang Yuanyi. His dad is the top government official in Jinling City, and his grandfather used to be the top official of the Jiangsu and Zhejiang Provincial Committee, though he’s retired now! On top of that, his maternal grandfather is a powerful figure in the Southwest Military Region! With a background like that, he’s a top-tier young master not just here in Jinling, but across all of Jiangsu and Zhejiang! If he really lets Baldy and his crew from the East District come after us, we won’t be able to stay in Jinling. There’d be no place for us!" Li Yunzhe couldn’t help but shiver as he spoke of Chang Yuanyi’s background.

He had pieced together this information from various sources, but he had no doubt it was true. He just had no idea what Chang Yuanyi actually looked like.

"How could a top-tier scion like that be mixed up with a street thug?" Zhu Houqing asked, hitting the nail on the head.

"I heard that—"

Before Li Yunzhe could finish, he was cut off.

"I don’t get it, Wolf Bro," Li Qiuzhe, who hailed from the Northeast, interrupted. "Stop with the ’I heard this, I heard that,’ will you? Can you just give it to us straight?"

"Right, right. I heard—no, I mean, the story is that Chang Yuanyi slept with Baldy’s sister. A while back, she found out she was pregnant. Seeing as she voluntarily got an abortion without making any demands, Young Master Chang put the word out on the street a few days ago: anyone who messes with Baldy is disrespecting him, Chang Yuanyi! That’s the gist of it!" Li Yunzhe rattled off the underworld gossip as if he were an encyclopedia.

After hearing his explanation, Li Qiuzhe and the other two grew even more terrified. It seemed there was truly no place for them in Jinling. Though they weren’t worldly, they knew that if they stayed and faced a man with Baldy’s kind of backing, they would end up crippled, if not dead.

The three roommates from Room 708 swallowed nervously in unison. Trembling with fear, Zhu Houqing quickly dove under his bed and pulled out his suitcase.

"Second, what are you doing?" Li Qiuzhe frowned.

"Packing to get out of here! School doesn’t matter. The worst that can happen is I go back to selling pork with my dad. But if they really catch us and we end up losing a limb, life won’t be worth living! I’m scared, man!" As he spoke, Zhu Houqing frantically yanked his clothes from the wardrobe and stuffed them into his suitcase.

"Second!" Qin Fan’s stern voice cut through the panic.

Zhu Houqing’s actions stopped cold, and he hurriedly turned around. He looked at Qin Fan without speaking, a pang of regret for his earlier impulsiveness welling up inside him.

"Do you guys blame me?" Qin Fan asked, his gaze sweeping over the four of them.

"Fourth, what kind of question is that? Are you saying we’re not brothers?" Li Qiuzhe said, his eyes widening.

"We don’t blame you, Fourth. I just regret we didn’t handle things more rationally from the start," Zhu Houqing said with determination, looking Qin Fan straight in the eye. "Honestly, I’m so glad I met you, and even luckier to call you my brother. Even if we have to run, I’ll never forget the short time we had. If you’ll still have me, I, Zhu Houqing, will always be your brother!"

"Second is right. Don’t overthink it, Fourth! Nobody blames you. You didn’t ask us to join in; we chose to fight alongside you," Wang Dalu, who was usually timid, chimed in, forcing a smile for Qin Fan. "Besides, what’s dropping out of school? It’s not a big deal. These days, even people with master’s degrees struggle to find jobs!" Of everyone in the room, his emotional intelligence was the highest. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

"Big Brother, I admire you, I look up to you! You’ll always be my Big Brother!" said Li Yunzhe, a.k.a. Wolf Bro from 709, his eyes turning red.

"Damn it!" Qin Fan, who rarely cursed, couldn’t help it. His heart warmed by their loyalty, his expression grew serious. "Everyone, stay put! Nothing will happen to you. I guarantee it with my life! Just wait. By tomorrow, this will all blow over. I, Qin Fan, will safeguard your paths! No one will be able to touch you. Ever!"

Having said his piece, Qin Fan turned and strode out the door.

"Fourth, where are you going?" they all cried out in alarm. They assumed that Qin Fan felt guilty and was going off to handle things by himself.

Sure, Qin Fan could fight, but what good was that against a top-tier scion? This world, after all, was ruled by power and influence.

Without turning back, he said, "Stay here and wait for me. Trust me!" And with that, he disappeared from their sight.

Exiting the dormitory building, Qin Fan looked up at the darkening sky. He took out his phone and dialed Ma Yunbin’s number.

"Holy crap, Master Qin! I was just about to call you, haha!" Ma Yunbin’s excited voice boomed as soon as the call connected.

"You were calling me? Why?" Qin Fan frowned slightly.

"I just landed! I’m walking out of Jinling Airport right now! I was about to give you a ring when you called. Master Qin, are you free? May I head straight from the airport to Jinling U to pick you up for dinner?" the young master on the other end of the line chuckled.

"Alright, come. I’ll wait for you outside campus," Qin Fan replied after a brief pause.

"You got it! I’ll have the driver step on it. By the way, Master Qin, did something happen? You almost never call me," Ma Yunbin asked with a sheepish laugh after signaling his driver to hurry.

"We’ll talk when you get here." Qin Fan replied flatly and hung up.

A cold smile flickered across his face.

Baldy? Chang Yuanyi? I hope you don’t dig your own graves. A big-shot gangster? A top-tier young master? To me, that’s all empty talk.

As night fell, Amber’s voice sounded from behind him. "Mr. Qin."

Qin Fan was slightly surprised by her arrival, but he didn’t ask why she was there. Instead, he said indifferently, "I’m heading out for a bit. If anyone comes on campus looking for trouble with my roommates, you know what to do."

Amber bowed her head slightly. "Yes, Mr. Qin. I’ll make sure they never know what hit them."

He gave a slight nod. After a moment of silence, just as Amber began to walk away, Qin Fan suddenly spoke. "I killed Miao Haohao."

"Thank you!" Amber’s delicate frame shuddered as she uttered those two words, her voice trembling.

Then, with a sway of her graceful hips, she turned her back to Qin Fan and slowly walked away.
