Chapter 62: The Triplets

Midnight,

Aether was lying on his bed, staring at the ceiling. He was lost in thought.

She will come home tomorrow. I’m really happy, but also worried. How should I face her? She did everything for me in my past life, and all I did was misunderstand her.

I was also the reason she died. Do I really deserve her forgiveness?

As Aether reflected on his big sister’s sacrifice and his own foolishness, a sudden knock came at the door.

Knock Knock

Aether quickly turned toward the door. "Who could it be at this hour?"

It was around midnight, and no one should have visited him this late.

He immediately used his mana sense to detect the number of people and whether they carried weapons. But what he sensed made him frown.

The visitors were none other than his triplet brothers. He opened the door and looked at the triplets with dissatisfaction.

"What are you three doing here this late?" Aether asked coldly.

"Brother, we apologize for our late visit." The highbro said.

"We apologize." The midbro said

"We apologize." The lowbro

The three of them bowed slightly.

"What is your reason for coming so late?" Aether asked again.

The triplets swallowed dryly and spoke together, "Make us your disciples."

"....." Aether was dumbfounded. What the triplets had just said was truly unexpected.

"We beg you, please make us your disciples." the midbro, Nero von Noctvain said with pleading eyes.

"We heard how you defeated the dragon. Please teach us, so we can also defeat dragons." the lowbro added, his eyes filled with admiration.

To them, Aether was a superhero. And becoming his disciples meant gaining great strength.

Meanwhile, Aether didn’t like their gazes. In his past life, they had looked at him the same way, but in the end, he was the reason they died.

Aether then looked at them and spoke in a cold voice,

"The three of you already have good instructors, and I don’t plan to take in disciples. So you guys may leave now."

"No, brother, you have to take us under your wings. Aaaaaa" the highbro started crying, putting on an act.

Aether sighed in exhaustion. "Your acting is still bad. Just go away."

He reached for the door to close it, but just then, the three of them fell to his legs and started begging.

"Please, brother, don’t let us die in vain." the highbro, Noctis von Noctvain said.

"Is wanting to protect my family a sin? Then I want to be a sinner." the midbro added.

"I agree with my brothers." the lowbro said.

Aether looked troubled by their acting.

Just then, Solmira twitched in her sleep. The commotion had disturbed her rest. Aether quickly signaled the triplets to stay silent.

As they became quiet, Solmira shifted here and there before finally falling into a deep sleep.

"Brother???"

The triplets were surprised to see a little girl in Aether’s room.

They had heard that after the rescue team reached the battlefield where Aether had defeated that dragon, they saw Thalia carrying a little girl.

But the triplets hadn’t thought much about it.

However, after seeing that little girl in Aether’s room, only one thought ran through their minds:

Who is she? Why is she in Aether’s room?

The three of them looked at Aether with curious eyes.

Aether sighed and spoke, "She is my daughter, Solmi...." Before he could finish, the three of them rushed to the bed and stared at the little girl.

"She is your daughter????" The highbro asked in surprise.

"But... she has..." the middle brother paused. "She has red hair, just like Lady Thalia!"

The three of them realized this and looked at Aether with wide eyes.

"This is not what you think it is. She is....." Aether tried to clear the misunderstanding, but the three of them simultaneously placed their hands on Aether’s shoulder and said in a serious tone,

"We’re really disappointed. We supported your relationship with Lady Thalia, but for you to hide it from us...I’?m feeling betrayed" the highbro said.

"I’m feeling betrayed."

"I’m feeling betrayed."

Aether looked at them and felt awkward.

"The thing is, I found her egg by coincidence, and....you guys also saw that egg, right? So then one night...." Aether began explaining her fake origin.

After he explained the story, the three of them clicked their tongues in disappointment. They wanted Aether to have his harem, but Aether was loyal to Cierra.

"Now that you know her story, please treat her like your own family." Aether asked sincerely. He wanted Solmira to feel as if she truly belonged.

"Yes, that’s out responsibility."

"Yes, that’s out Responsibility."

"Yes, that’s out Responsibility."

As he heard those words, a soft, gentle smile appeared on Aether’s face.

"But brother, why was a human inside an egg?" the highbro, Noctis von Noctvain asked.

"Oh, she is half-dragon, half-human." Aether replied without much thought.

"Whaaaat?" The three of them were dumbfounded. They were mesmerized by their big brother, who was so cool that he now had a dragon daughter.

As they froze in shock, Aether spoke with a smile,

"Okay, come tomorrow. I’ll introduce you three to Solmira."

He then pushed them out of the room and closed the door.

Even after that, they froze outside the door. Raising a half-dragon was that surprising.

Then, a voice came from outside the room. "That dragon you fought came to harm her, right? Don’t worry. Next time, we will be the wall that protects her." the middle brother said.

After saying this, the three of them walked away.

Meanwhile, Aether smiled, reassured by their words.

* * *

The next day,

Morning sunlight streamed through the window and fell on Aether’s face. Yesterday night, he had fallen asleep after worrying about his sister.

Knock, knock.

A knock came at the door. Aether’s sleep was broken, and he headed toward the door to open it.

"For the past three or four days, I haven’t really been able to sleep" Aether said, his face still sleepy.

For the past two days, Thalia had constantly come early in the morning to talk about his brother, and now someone else was knocking.

As he opened the door, he quickly raised one eyebrow.

The visitors this early were the triplets again, and they had also brought someone, Lyra von Noctvain, Aether’s little sister.

"Brother, you have a daughter."

It seemed the triplets had brought her here.
