The Regressor's Younger Brother's Insanity-Chapter 58: Marriage Proposal in a Majestic Tone
Aether then looked at his mother and said in a suspicious tone,
"Mother, are you trying to prevent me from entering the secret vault?"
As Aether had guessed, his mother was indeed trying to prevent him from entering the family’s secret vault.
Aether’s mother stayed silent. She had planned to tell him later, but she thought that since Aether was in an emotionally weak phase, he would accept without questioning.
She had heard from Cierra how Aether had been shaken while fighting the dragon, how he had sacrificed himself to save his fiancée and that little girl.
"Mother, I need that sword. Please try to understand." Aether said pleadingly.
"Did I say anything about the sword? I just said you’ll have your engagement, and that’s even before going to the academy." his mother replied.
"Mother, I have my academy admission exams and other preparations. How am I supposed to get engaged now?" Aether said, raising his voice slightly.
Just then, Aether’s mother’s face became serious as she spoke in a cold tone,
"Why keep her waiting for you while you would only be toying with her heart?"
Upon hearing this, Aether’s eyes widened.
He had many regrets from his previous life, and one of them was that he hadn’t treated Cierra right.
They had shared a loving relationship since childhood. But as Aether grew older, he became colder and devoted himself to persevering on the path to become the strongest under heaven, even aspiring to ascend to the divine ranks.
For his very existence was solely to walk the path his brother had left for him.
Mother’s words were true. Who gave me the right to decide everything on my own? I had basically ignored her in my past life. If I had told her to find happiness without me, then maybe she would have lived and had a happy family.
I couldn’t give her anything. I couldn’t even tell her that I loved her. In the end, I was the one who got her killed.
It feels as though my very life is nothing but Failure.
Aether’s thoughts spiraled out of control.
"Son, are you listening?" As Aether’s mother asked this Aether jolted from his thoughts.
Aether then looked at Cierra who was blushing beside his mother.
"Mother, can i have some alone time with lady Cierra? I want to talk about something."
Aether’s mother was momentarily confused. Then, realizing there might be an improvement in their relationship and that the chances of the engagement being finalized would increased, she left the room.
Aether then stood in front of Cierra and spoke in a serious tone.
"I’m not a good man, and I don’t think I can be a good husband either. But I love you, and I’ll protect you until my last breath....no, even after my death, I’ll protect you."
Upon hearing this, Cierra’s face turned beet red, steam practically rising from her head. Her heart felt like it was about to burst from both excitement and embarrassment.
"Aum...uhm...i..ha..uhm.."
Aether then knelt on one knee and took out his handkerchief from the system window. The handkerchief bore the Noctvain family crest.
He raised his hand, holding the handkerchief, and positioned it to give it to her.
"I don’t have the right to have you, but I still desperately want you. Please, marry me, Lady Cierra."
Aether proposed, in a knightly manner.
Cierra, on the other hand, was overwhelmed with (excitement, happiness, and sorrow) a mixture of emotions.
She burst into tears and accepted the handkerchief.
"It would be my honor to be with you eternally." Cierra said, tears of joy streaming down her face.
Aether then stood up and hugged her tightly.
While hugging, a soft breeze came through the window. Aether then stopped hugging and looked at her.
Her eyes were as pure as they could get. Those were the eyes that would drown me until my death.
The breeze slowly moved her hair in front of her eyes. Cierra tried to push them back, but they would fall before her eyes again.
Aether then slowly touched her soft, silky dark purple hair, moved it behind her ear, and gently touched her cheeks.
Holding her cheeks softly, he leaned closer unknowingly. The same happened with Cierra. By an unknown force, both of them were closing in.
There was practically no gap between their faces.
Just then, Aether could hear Cierra’s heartbeat.
The same happened to Aether. His heart was suddenly pounding wildly. For a cold man like him to feel this emotion....
I had thought of emotions as weakness. But that was my short-sightedness. Emotions are what make us humans.
But it’s also like a double-edged sword. While emotions can be beautiful, they can also make the heart explode.
Aether recalled the moment when Cierra was killed. He had felt a strange emotion, and he didn’t want to feel that same emotion again.
As both of them were looking into each other’s eyes. Aether started reciting a poem.
" I’ve drowned so completely in the colors of love,
That your heartbeat feels like mine,
And your breath moves through me.
I’ve lost myself so deeply in your love,
That nothing else exists...
Only you, only us,
Bound together in a world of our own."
The unexpected poetry surprised Cierra.
Aether was always cold toward her and never really knew anything other than fighting. So how could he be so romantic?
His words were not merely words. They were like arrows of pain shooting at her.
Hearing him makes my heart ache. But I love this pain.
Just as both of them were immersed in a romantic atmosphere, a knock came at the door.
Both of them instinctively stepped back and awkwardly started staring somewhere else.
Knock knock
"Come in." Aether gave permission to come in. And a woman in a black dress with crimson hair and eyes appeared.
"Oh, Lady Thalia. How are you?" Aether asked.
The woman who appeared was Thalia von Ravenfall.
"Young lord, are you perhaps Naoki?"
Lady Thalia asked something truly unexpected. Naoki was Aether’s name back on Planet Earth.
