The Reborn Sidekick Rejected The Male Lead-Chapter 395 - 384: Husband and Wife Taking Care of the Baby
Chapter 395: Chapter 384: Husband and Wife Taking Care of the Baby
Of course, Jingqiu wanted that too, but for her, who had never done any business, it was better to stick to a stable job.
There was no need to overexert herself or earn too much money, just a simple job would do. After all, she didn’t need to rely on her salary to live.
Jingqiu met up with two people for a meal in West City and stayed for a week before driving back to Capital City.
The whole family’s clothes and luggage were tied to the top of the car, grandpa sat in the passenger seat, and she and Aunt Zhang sat in the back, holding the children.
Jiang Nanzhou got tired from driving, and when the road conditions were good, grandpa could also take the wheel for a little while. The old man was quite happy.
Back in Capital City, Shen Mu immediately told his family that they were coming home.
Mother-in-law even took time out of her busy schedule to help tidy up grandpa’s house.
On the night they arrived in Capital City, mother-in-law and Uncle Shen came over with gifts for the children.
They played with Xiao Cheng all evening, and mother-in-law said she couldn’t bear to let the child go even when they were leaving.
She told them to come over with the child whenever they had the chance.
Jingqiu repeatedly agreed, although she also knew that mother-in-law was busy.
After staying at grandpa’s place for two days, she and her husband took the child to her father’s side.
Her father was very busy over the summer, but no matter what, he had to make time for his daughter and grandson coming home.
"Knowing that you were coming, I cleaned up the room, aired out the sheets and blankets for two days and even installed a fan for you. Settle down and stay as long as you want, whether it’s a couple of days here or at grandpa’s place. But I won’t be able to keep you company every day," he said.
"Dad, you take care of your work. But now with the weather being so hot, you must be careful not to fall ill with heatstroke," she said.
"Our training is in the deep mountains, it’s possible that I’ll be gone for five or six days this time," he replied.
Jiang Nanzhou said, "Dad, take some insect repellent with you. I can take good care of both of them at home."
"Okay, sure," he agreed.
Her father was busy, but he doted on his grandson. When he was at home, he was happy to take Xiao Cheng out for a stroll and she wasn’t needed.
Unfortunately, he had to leave the next day.
Jingqiu prepared a bottle of floral water for him and sewed several insect-repellent sachets overnight.
They had only been back for two days before her father had to leave again.
They were left to their own devices, unsure of what to do.
Jiang Nanzhou laughed and said, "Tomorrow, let’s go buy a stroller for Xiao Cheng. This summer, I can show you around Capital City."
"In this hot summer..."
"Isn’t this the only time we have? The summer’s fine, we’ll carry umbrellas, wear hats, and bring water."
Jingqiu thought it over. They hadn’t been out much since they got married, so she nodded, "We need to take good care of the child."
"Agreed."
That evening, Jiang Nanzhou made plans about where to go first.
Eventually he got an idea and rode out on his bike the next day, leaving Jingqiu puzzled, "Where did you go so early in the morning?"
Jiang Nanzhou laughed, "I went to find a couple of colleagues to help look after the child, right?"
"Who?"
"Kunzi and his partner."
"Huh? Comrade Lih has a partner now?"
"Yes, he met someone at the hospital after the New Year."
"Isn’t he busy?" He was too occupied to chat during the holidays.
"He’s in the honeymoon phase, he’ll make time even if he’s busy."
"That’s true." She remembered how they clung to each other whenever they had time during the early stages of their relationship.
They planned to visit the park tomorrow, where there was water for boating.
In the afternoon, they went to the market and picked out a stroller for Xiao Cheng: one without a sunshade cost five yuan, and with a sunshade six yuan.
They chose one with a sunshade, which the little guy seemed to really enjoy. As Jingqiu pushed him back, he babbled happily, though what he was saying was anybody’s guess.
They got home at noon, and Jiang Nanzhou made dumpling soup.
The dumpling soup was something the little one could eat, and nowadays, they tailored their meals to the child’s taste.
The next morning, Jingqiu’s bag was packed with toilet paper, a milk bottle, a thermos cup, boiled eggs, and a spare set of clothes for the little guy, in case he wet himself while out.
The two of them brought a pile of things with them as they left the house, but fortunately, the small car had enough space to fit everything.
"Kunzi."
"Nanzhou, Jingqiu. Wow, this must be Xiao Cheng. Come, let Uncle give you a hug."
"It’s been a while, Comrade Lih."
Holding Xiao Cheng, Li Hua Kun smiled and said, "Yes, it’s been a year." Then he busied himself by pulling over a tall, fair-skinned girl, "Let me introduce you, this is my girlfriend, Cheng Hong."
"Nice to meet you, Comrade Cheng."
"Nice to meet all of you. Although it’s our first time meeting in person, I’ve often heard Kunzi talk about you. Sister-in-law is so beautiful."
"Thank you. I used to be in the same city as Comrade Lih, but then he was transferred back here, so we didn’t see each other often. Let’s go, it’s quite sunny now. We can talk as we walk."
"Sure."
Lu Jingqiu and Jiang Nanzhou had come out to take their child for a walk, while Li Hua Kun was in the middle of dating. They hadn’t realized earlier how considerate this guy was.
But after spending the day together, whether it was passing tissues or buying popsicles, and resting on the lawn, they hadn’t thought to bring a blanket or anything of the sort, but Comrade Lih had thoughtfully brought one.
Lu Jingqiu had gotten to know Cheng Hong quite well over the day.
Cheng Hong came from a family of scholars; both her parents were university professors, and her grandmother was a doctor, so she had learnt medicine from her grandmother since childhood and later worked at the hospital, which was where she and Li Hua Kun were colleagues now.
It was the old chief physician who had played matchmaker for them, and both felt it was a good match; their families were also quite content with the arrangement.
Lu Jingqiu asked about their plans for marriage, wondering if they would have a chance to attend the wedding.
Lu Jingqiu’s question might have been a bit too direct, making Cheng Hong blush.
Li Hua Kun quickly smiled and said, "Our families have set it for the eleventh, Jingqiu. Could you come then?"
Jiang Nanzhou said, "No, the eleventh is too hectic, and it’s inconvenient for her to bring the child. I’ll be there to help you out. Just make sure to save some candy for the kid."
Li Hua Kun regretfully said, "If I’d known, I would have scheduled it during the summer holiday so that both of you could come.
Don’t worry, there will definitely be candy for our little Xiao Cheng. I’ve already talked to Hongzi about it. He said he’s going to get me some chocolate and other candies from abroad."
"I haven’t seen Hongzi for a while. Let’s set a time to get together."
"Sure, how about we book a private room at a restaurant?"
Jiang Nanzhou, looking at his wife and child, said, "Let’s do it at home instead, it’s inconvenient at a restaurant with families and all."
Li Hua Kun frowned and said, "At home? My place is too crowded with family. They all have elders at home and can’t just let loose with drinking. How about your Yue Family’s place?"
Jiang Nanzhou said, "Let’s go to the old house my grandma left for me. I’ll clean it up in a couple of days. We can’t cook there, but we could do a barbecue, and everyone can bring something."
"Sounds good, but isn’t your place rented out?"
"No, I couldn’t bear to do that."
"I get it, that yard is quite nice indeed."
After agreeing, they went home, and Jiang Nanzhou notified a few people.
They decided to bring their families along and chose a Sunday when everyone was free.
Knowing they were going to have a gathering, Lu Jingqiu brought her child along with Jiang Nanzhou to clean up the house.
That courtyard had been uninhabited for many years now. Before their grandfather was in Capital City, he would occasionally have Aunt Zhang clean the place. But it had been a year since anyone had been there.
There were some weeds and moss in the yard.
"Be careful, the ground is slippery."
Lu Jingqiu smiled and said, "Nanzhou, of all the houses we have in Capital City, this one is the most comfortable. It’s spacious and has a large backyard. With its red walls and green tiles, it’s very picturesque too."
Jiang Nanzhou laughed, "You like it? How about we renovate it, and stay here whenever we come to Capital City?"
"Better not. It might make grandpa worry. But this place... when we eventually settle down in Capital City, we could live here, what do you say?"
"Sure. I’ve thought about it already. In a few years, I’ll have it renovated and redo the garden in the back as well. After that, we’ll live here."
Lu Jingqiu laughed, "Who knows when we’ll end up here. What if I get assigned to West City after graduation?"
Jiang Nanzhou laughed as he patted her head, "You’re a military spouse, so you can follow the military; your job can be transferred with me as well."
"Oh, that’s true." Even if she didn’t transfer, with her current fame, she could live off her paintings.
After all, she was a recipient of national awards, twice now.
She had her own well-known representative works.
These days weren’t like the future, with advanced social media and greater influence.
But in her field, she was also well-known to many.
