Chapter 228: What Troubles Logi?

Many Nights Later

As time flew, avoiding the patrolling Serpents became a daily routine. They did their best not to be caught; even so, it got harder to navigate the top floors.

But a plan was made to finish their mission. Their time of lurking in the corridors was about to come to an end.

"We’ll take the floors tomorrow night. Sneaking through it won’t be enough, we’ll use force. Only if we keep the other floors distracted to reduce the numbers we’ll face," Kraven explained, his silver eyes shifting to Logi, who had been quiet the entire time.

They had carefully thought of this plan for days and mulled their chances over and over again. It was a full-on war if they had any hopes of reaching Aric.

Aric would use his Serpents like a shield, which meant the numbers were against them, and being brain-dead meant they were about to strike against a tenacious force that didn’t feel fear or pain.

For this to work, he needed to make sure they were all on board with this.

"Logi?" Kraven said, grabbing his attention.

Logi’s only response was a nod, but it was obvious his thoughts were somewhere else.

Kraven placed his fingers on the table, eyeing Logi questioningly. "If there’s something you’d like to input, then I suggest you do it now."

Isadora gulped, discerning the tension hanging in the air.

"This is a careless plan," Logi voiced, locking gaze with Kraven.

"Is it now? So far, there aren’t any of those loopholes you hate. It’s war."

"War." He huffed. "I know it’s war. I know why we’re here. We must take Aric’s head and erase the Serpents from existence." He sounded like he needed to remind himself of their goal.

"Logi, are you alright?" Isadora asked softly.

It was at the tip of his Logi’s tongue to say, because of the soft expression that Isadora gave him, capable of tearing down the barriers he had put up.

But he refused to voice his thoughts, tearing his gaze away and said. "Our time’s up, we should go our separate ways now to avoid any discovery." He hurried out of the room, the door slamming shut behind him.

"He had been like this for days. He’s keeping something," Kraven said with certainty.

"Logi?" Isadora voiced like she couldn’t believe it.

"Shocked?" Kraven mused, shifting his gaze to her.

"It’s just I never thought Logi could do something like that."

"You would be surprised how one’s judgment is clouded by... things."

"Are you worried he might do something out of place?"

"I know him well enough not to endanger our mission."

She swallowed hard, nodding in agreement. Kraven might not verbally say it but she knew he trusted Logi no matter what.

Even so, Isadora was worried about him. Logi hasn’t been his usual chatty, playful self. He’s been guarded and distant.

He has always been there for her whenever she needed to steer the mystery called Kraven. She felt the need to be there for him, too.

"We should go now, before the Serpents come."

"How many hours this time?" Kraven asked, not liking the idea of being separated from her again.

However, it was the only way to keep the Serpents off their trail. Being together would draw too much attention.

Isadora smirked. "It’s just two hours, Kraven."

"Maybe, but it feels much more than that, don’t you agree?" He grabbed her waist and yanked her to his body.

"Maybe," she teased.

Kraven leaned down to her, but she moved off him and hurried to the door.

"That’s not fair, love. I won’t play nice next time." There was a promise to his tone that made her heart skip a beat.

Her teeth sinking her bottom lip when she recalled a few nights ago. They didn’t explore anything else aside from devouring each other’s lips to the point of exhaustion.

Kraven still kept his promise. She couldn’t think of anything else aside from her sore lips and the mark branded on her neck.

"I hear you loud and clear, darling. Come closer and I’ll make your thoughts come true."

Isadora tensed as she jolted back to reality. With tainted cheeks, she hurried out of the room.

Her eyes skimmed the corridor as she pulled up her hood and concealed her features.

She hastened her steps in search of Logi. Whatever he was going through, she wanted to let him know that she was there for him.

She followed the path she had seen him venture on yesterday after their meeting. This was all wishful thinking, but she was determined to find him.

As she walked by, she kept up the impression of a Serpent when a group walked past her. Her expression was as stoic as possible until they faded to the next corridor.

Her eyes lingered where they left not until she heard footsteps and muffled voices from a far corner. Curiosity got her legs moving until she was close enough to make out the words.

"I warned you!"

"Did you just expect me to leave?"

"Yes!"

"We haven’t been caught so far, so I guess you haven’t run to your master with your tail between your legs."

There was silence, followed by a pressure she could feel from her position.

Isadora gulped, knowing that was undoubtedly Logi’s voice, but who was he talking to?

"You left me no choice. If I say anything to Aric, then you die."

"So you’re just stalling, aren’t you?" Logi mused.

Marek growled. "Enough for you to leave, but you seem to make this difficult. I’m done."

"How long would it take you to see Aric’s true colors?"

Marek shook his head. "You have it all wrong. He’s not who you say he is. I trust him, he wouldn’t betray the code."

"I see your doubts! You can’t fool me, Marek, you’re just stuck in the delusion he has forged. Can’t you see the truth?"

"Just stop! You keep coming back here, saying all this to my face. I’ve had enough! And—" He paused when he set his sapphire eyes on a figure behind.
