The Reaper's Wicked Obsession-Chapter 219: Act Natural
Chapter 219: Act Natural
The tower’s interior was narrow. The dark stone made the place bleak, but the lit torches pinned to the wall and small windows illuminated the space.
Isadora placed her palm against the wall, which was too chilly and damp; they were on the lowest floor of the tower, and the continuous, relentless waves that struck against the building made the air freezing.
Her clothes clung to her body, and there was no option to change, which meant she would battle with the cold. Kraven and Logi looked okay, not once concerned about the temperature.
Isadora did her best to hide the chills and shivers taking over her body. They were in uncharted territory, and the last thing she wanted was to be a burden and have Kraven’s watchful gaze on her.
They climbed the winding spiral staircase that wrapped along the inner wall, connecting each floor like the coil of a serpent.
So far, they haven’t seen anyone, but the sudden sound of incoming footsteps alerted them.
Isadora’s heartbeat spiked at the sound, and the shadow growing on the wall indicated that they were getting close.
Kraven leaned down to Isadora’s ear and whispered. "Act natural."
’Act natural?’ she panicked mentally.
However, taking a peek at the two Fae beside her, she realized she was the only one out of place and possibly ruining their disguise.
They looked so relaxed and more like Serpents than strangers.
It made Isadora ponder how they could be so firm. Something told her that this wasn’t their first infiltration.
Swallowing a thick lump in her throat, her wide eyes faced back ahead, her fist tightening at her sides as they got closer to them.
Her heartbeat would certainly give her out if she didn’t find a way to relax her nerves.
She squeezed her eyes shut and opened them, exhaling sharply at the first glimpse of the Serpents on green shawls and a cloth covering the lower half of their faces. They have the same matching attire as theirs.
Kraven and Logi were on alert, each clasping onto the handle of their daggers, ready for anything the moment the passerby discerned something was wrong.
It was a slim chance due to how tightly they shielded their aura from being detected as a threat.
But three Serpents spared no glance or even familiarity as they walked past them, almost like they didn’t exist or bother to be friendly with their fellow Serpents.
Isadora was troubled by this demeanor. She’d predicted some sort of questioning or mindful gaze, but after a few seconds of thought, realization struck her.
They were confident about the storm as a protection. They don’t suspect anyone was insane enough to fight through it to get to them.
"Logi, you know what to do, scout every floor. We need to know how far off this tower is and don’t get caught."
Isadora could tell that Logi smirked under the veil.
"I should say the same for both of you. Don’t get caught." He walked ahead, hurrying up the stairs.

They spent hours circling the lower floors, each place looked exactly the same; there weren’t many activities going on.
Just a few Serpents moved around, and the silence was loud, with little whispers on occasion. The place felt like a graveyard, a complete contrast to the Raven Court that bustled with activities.
Isadora half expected something like that since they were both secret societies, but she had thought wrong in that aspect. frёeωebɳovel.com
There was nothing lively or upbeat about this place, just blank. Their unsuspecting behavior was suddenly the least alarming thing, it was like they operated under one brain cell.
"This place makes me uneasy," Isadora muttered before she could stop herself, her features in a scowl.
Kraven chuckled softly, keeping his eyes on the hall, flocked with more Serpents going about.
"Same thing, love. Aric is responsible for this. He can possess his Huntsmen, maybe it is a side effect." His eyes shifted to a sculpture at the center, which was a hand holding an axe and hammer crossed together to form an X.
"And it seems they revere Krig, the god of war and chaos." He nudged his head.
Isadora followed his attention, pinned on the sculpture. She studied it too, eyes narrowed. "Krig." It was just a craft portraying an axe and hammer, what does it have to do with the god of war?
Kraven ginned, noticing the question stirring her gaze, even with just her eyes visible, he could make out her expression.
"The god of war is known for using axes and hammers. He uses the axe to cut down foes and the hammer to forge fire."
"I’m not surprised by their taste." She tucked her hands in her shawl, her teeth chattering.
Kraven discerned this. "Everyone has that which they draw their power from, like a benefactor."
He leaned away from the railing and walked to a pile of clothes hooked on the wall.
He searched through it, and the only thing he could find that was suitable for her size was a tunic and a shawl.
"Here, change into this."
"Why?" she asked. "I’m no longer wet."
’Does he know I’m cold?’ she thought. That was the last thing she wanted, but the look from Kraven’s eyes told her what she needed.
The idea of being overcome by something as simple as a cold made her embarrassed.
Sighing in defeat, she grabbed the clothes, but a sudden tickling sensation found her nose.
"Achoo!" The sound came unexpectedly, and Isadora was just as surprised.
Kraven sensed the Serpents turning their attention, so he grasped Isadora toward a corner, enclosing her against the wall.
"I never thought our cover would be at risk because of a sneeze."
Isadora blushed, but her nose got itchy again as another came. Kraven quickly covered her mouth.
Her eyes were wide as she tried her best to avoid another blunder.
Luckily for them, it stopped.
"Change," Kraven commanded, releasing her, prompting the fabric concealing her face to come off.
She sniffed, rubbing her red nose.
"How long have you been like this?" he asked with a frown.
"J-Just now." She turned to move, but he placed his hand against the wall, stopping her.
