The Reaper's Wicked Obsession-Chapter 178: Curiosity Kills The Cat
Chapter 178: Curiosity Kills The Cat
The Woods
Logi dusted the snow off the tree, revealing more of the rune engraved. He studied it closely just to be sure before a smile curled on his lips.
"Child’s play my ass. It’s no new thing that Fae’s are greedy with old tunnels." He huffed. "You lied to the wrong person, Solin."
Logi moved away from the tree. "Now, where should I start from..." He lifted his gaze to the top of the tree. "The tree will show the way."
He twirled as his green eyes skimmed through the lonely woods. He angled his hands as if calculating the tree’s angle.
It would definitely lead to the path, but the still wind wasn’t helping.
With a frustrated sigh, he reached for his pocket and pulled out his glass navigator. "The fucking arrow is still useless."
It kept spinning out of control and never stopped. It should have. There was a village, meaning they weren’t in a warp tunnel.
Then why was their location still unknown? Something did not feel right.
There must be something he missed. However, pondering it repeatedly—there was nothing he could pinpoint.
Logi shook his head, distressed. The only way was to find the old tunnel, so he got to work trying to trace it.
The deeper he ventured into the woods, the more the place unsettled him. Two hours of endless scouting had passed, yet he hadn’t spotted a single animal or the usual chirping of crickets.
Nothing felt alive.
His suspicion had reached its climax, and he suddenly didn’t need to keep racking his brain to understand what he had missed from the very beginning—what he feared.
"Alda!" he swore to the Allfather, his teeth clenching so hard it hurts.
’It shouldn’t be possible. There was no mistake in my craft. I never make a mistake.’
Logi stood in the middle of nowhere, a frown upon his features. He needed to alert Kraven about this before it was too late—But first, he had to find the tunnel they had come through.
That was the only way to clear his doubts.
Suddenly, a sharp crack echoed through the air, pulling Logi’s focus. His hand instinctively reached for the axe at his waist, his breath turning ragged.
His piercing green eyes swept through the dark woods, searching for any sign of movement, but none could be seen. After hours of graveyard silence, the abrupt sound could only mean one thing—he was no longer alone.
Who dared stalk him? Who had the nerve to do such a thing?
Crack!
Logi spun around, his grip tightening on the axe handle, but his movement halted when he caught sight of a familiar gray-eyed Fae.
"Solin?"
"Hello, Logi." Solin grinned—too wide, an unnatural stretch that made his face look grotesque, sending a shiver of unease through Logi.
Logi didn’t return it—he kept his posture relaxed, but it was a facade. His entire body screamed at him to run.
It was his instinct kicking, but Logi knew doing anything rash would not end well for him.
Solin exhaled sharply. "What are you doing here?" he asked. "It’s um... late, and everyone should be asleep at this hour."
Logi swallowed hard, but forced a smile on his lips that almost mirrored Solin’s own. "I was just—"
Solin raised his hand, interrupting him. "It’s okay..." He shrugged like he took no offense, but his expression was a contraction.
His gray eyes were wild with bloodlust.
"Tourists are curious. They always are."
"Curiosity kills the cat," Logi replied sternly, calculating his chances, but they were slim, especially when he had no idea what he was dealing with.
Setting his doubts aside. Logi knew they must have somehow gone through a warp tunnel, and this place was a warp dimension—like the ones that led to the Bone Eaters and Sigil Beasts.
Only the gods knew which dimension they wound up in.
"Indeed," Solin replied, followed by a laugh as he ran his hand through his ginger hair. But then, he paused in thought, rubbing the edge of his pointy ear.
"It’s late, like you said... I should go back to the inn now," Logi said, testing the waters.
It was a silly move, but at this point, he would try anything to read his enemy.
"The way you moved around earlier, I could barely hear you." freewēbnoveℓ.com
Logi stiffened. ’How long has he been watching me?’ he thought as his blood ran cold. ’I couldn’t sense him.’
Solin pointed to Logi. "You’re not just a random Fae, are you?"
Logi unsheathed his axe. "So are you..."
Solin giggled. "I admire your insight."
"I’m sensing a vibe. Now I want to cut your throat open."
"Harsh!"
"What are you?"
"That’s an odd question... I’m just the village’s Caretaker." His smile faded. "A caretaker is the protector, you can’t fault me for that."
"A caretaker who stalks people? I beg to differ," Logi replied, smirking. "There is no need to play dumb with me. I’m not dumb. I know this is a warp dimension."
Solin giggled again. The sound was getting on Logi’s nerves, and he had the sudden urge to cut out his vocal cords.
"Firstly, that is rude." Solin narrowed his eyes. "Why would I stalk you? When your sister is the better option."
Logi features darkened with a murderous intensity, the pressure in the air tightening as he voiced venomous words. "If you go anywhere near Isadora, I swear to the seven gods, I’ll cut you up into pieces. I’ll keep your head in my bag and make sure I let it relive the taste of death every single day."
Solin sighed, not one bit affected by Logi’s threat. He looked more disappointed than bothered. "Too bad, I thought we could get along."
But then a glint found his eyes like an idea lit up. "We still could! After all, we’re going to be best friends. You can put in a good word for your sister."
"Stop talking!" Logi charged toward him, swinging his axe.
