The Reaper's Wicked Obsession-Chapter 174: The Caretaker
Chapter 174: The Caretaker
Warmth found Isadora’s cheeks. The look in his eyes showed that he enjoyed this more than expected.
Isadora hoped she wouldn’t combust in flames from blushing too much, her cheeks were hurting too.
"Y-You know what I mean. This is a peaceful village, and..." she paused before speaking. "You’ve got to behave."
’Fuck!’ Kraven cursed mentally as a suffocating sensation found him. He pinned her with a dark look, undeniable hunger burning through them. "Careful, love. It’s getting harder to keep it in my pants."
Isadora gasped at his shameless outburst, her erratic eyes skimming through the streets, hoping no one heard that.
It was already enough that Kraven had announced his presence like a possessive husband, but this?
Kraven chuckled at her distress because she was alert for anyone eavesdropping when she should have been earlier, when he had mentioned their act.
"Keep it down, don’t—"
Kraven interrupted when he grasped her cheeks, pressing against them and causing her lips to puff out.
He gazed down hungrily at her ravishing lips, and the torment only grew when he spotted the bite mark he had left earlier. Satisfaction pooled deep in his chest.
Isadora’s heart spiked at the thought of him kissing her out here when the villagers might be watching.
Would it be to solidify their disguise, too?
Kraven had already done that when he told Solin off. His point was already made.
But knowing Kraven, he might want a more drastic length.
Eagerly anticipating what he intended to do, he spoke instead. "If it makes you feel better. I’ll behave... as long as it’s fun for me."
Isadora’s eyelid twitched. Gods knew their stay here would be one hell of a torment. "That’s not how it works, Kraven."
He chuckled, more amused than ever. "That’s exactly how it works when you’re married to me. Don’t worry, I’ll be good for my wife."
Isadora shivered, not believing a word he said. She prayed to the gods that they would find the old tunnels on time.
’Hurry up, Logi!’

Solin laughed. He never met anyone as funny as this young Fae beside him. "You’re a mood, Logi. An interesting person."
"I like my first impression to be dramatic." He winked.
"You’ll grow on me, I can feel it," Solin said, a promise in his tone.
Logi gave an apologetic face. "Sadly, we won’t stay long enough for that."
Solin laughed again, this time more fulfilling than ever, like he was brushing off what Logi said. "That’s what the others say. You would be surprised how much this place will grow on you."
Logi chuckled awkwardly. "You’re funny too. But we love new sightings from time to time." He leaned close and whispered. "My sister’s husband wants to ensure they enjoy most of their time, you know... travel the continent. He’s a romantic."
"I know what you mean," Solin mused, but his smile felt forced now.
His earlier encounter with Kraven still disturbed him. He had never met anyone with such lethal presence... for a simple fellow.
"It’s too bad, your sister seems like a precious person, and she’s married to..." He blurted. "I’m not judging, just..."
"Love," Logi stressed. "It can surprise you a lot. Excuse his behaviour, he’s a protective husband."
"As any husband should be." Solin turned back to the view. "I’m sure you’ll enjoy the inn tonight, two rooms?"
"Two rooms." Logi nodded, appreciating the surroundings. It was pleasing indeed; it was rare to find such a wonderful setting in this rural area.
But that only spiked his suspicion more.
"Mossvale must be resourceful to have such aesthetics. I’m guessing getting such decorations from a distance costs a lot." Logi noted the furs and the other dressing around the common room.
"We do have resources, we get them all the time."
"For a very long mile away, there is not a single sighting of animals or any villages, this place is strangely remote and yet... so many resources. How do you get them?"
"You’re very perceptive, Logi."
"So I’m told, I can’t help it if I’ve a charming mind."
"An intrusive mind, you mean?" Solin countered.
Logi’s smile slowly faded; it was not hard to detect the shifty tone he used.
Solin took a step closer. "We’re a flourishing Village. Is that too much to handle? We work tooth and nail for our resources. Everything you see here is hard work."
"I didn’t mean any offense."
"And none taken." He sneered. "I was bored already keeping the kids in check and making each day worthwhile for everyone. One or two annoyances are enough to boost my day."
"The pleasure is all mine."
"Let’s get out of the way. We’ve a celebration coming soon to welcome the Heartmoon," Solin began in a much more welcoming tone than his earlier one.
"You know what Faekin says, the Heartmoon is for the lovers. It’s a good thing we have an additional couple, the celebration will peak this winter."
"That is a very lovely gesture, but like I said, we’re not staying too long."
"Of course! The invitation still stands." Solin turned on his heels to leave, but halted his steps when Logi spoke.
"Earlier, when we came through, we saw a natural rune? On the tree just leading through the entrance of the village."
Solin’s smile faded, but he didn’t turn to face the visitor. "Are travellers usually curious about runes?"
"Every Fae is curious about them, it’s an honor to see old tunnels that had in existence since the dawn of time. They should be revered."
The smile came back on as Solin turned to face Logi, keeping his hands behind his back. "I’m sorry to disappoint you, but that isn’t a natural rune."
"Are you sure? It was—"
"It was engraved by the children. They play a lot, and if you have time to look around, you would spot random runes around the place."
"I see..."
"Remember, if you need anything... anything at all, my house is just two buildings away."
