For the first time, I was grateful that someone had helped me without telling me first. For what Lara had done, I would never forget it. When I walked outside after locking my door from the inside, I saw that Marilyn was ready with the horses and two of them were ready with my cloak as well.

"Let us go then." I nodded to both of them and Lara jumped in excitement, squealing lightly making me smile.

"My brother is going to be so happy to see you!" She squealed, making me smile at her happiness as well. "He was talking about you constantly when he woke up. He was so worried about you!"

We rode together in the darkness through the Jungle as I thought about what Lara had told me. Was that what your love was? Even though he was injured to the extent of unconsciousness, he still thought about me when I was the one who had caused very those injuries to him?

Was I even capable of receiving such love?

I felt another wave of dizziness hit me making me close my eyes as my body fell limp but Merilyn caught in time before I could fall off the horse.

"Should we go back? Your health is more important to me." She whispered into my ear as she sat behind. She did not want to let Lara hear what we were talking about.

I shook my head. "This might be my only chance of meeting him and asking for his forgiveness." She understood that. Her hand squeezed my shoulder.

She did not talk after that and neither did I do anything to continue the conversation. The night carried on and so did we.

*********

"There, you see?" Lara pointed out to the faint light we could see coming out of the trees. The path had narrowed down and it could be noticed that it was not a well-inhabited area. "There is the cabin where he is kept."

Finally, I thought. There he was.

Marilyn answered her but my eyes continued to stare at the house that was now visible to us. It was made of woods and I could completely understand that it was hidden because of some purpose.

But why was it there in the first place? It was very deep into the woods.

"Lara, why do you have a cabin in the woods?"

She turned for a quick moment and then looked at the cabin again. "Ah, that." She clicked her tongue, "It is because it is a warehouse where my brother stores his goods at times which are not to be used for a long period. Here, they have a lesser chance of being looted."

I nodded but winced. There was still a faint ache at the back of my head and it did not make me feel well.

"Does it hurt bad?" Lara’s sad voice reached me and I looked at her. It amazes me truly how this girl could be so excited in one moment and then she could be sad as if mourning for someone dead.

I shook my head and answered her with a soft smile, "I feel weak. Perhaps when I go back, I will have a long sleep and actually drink the medicine this time." That made her laugh and I smiled.

There it was. The house.

Marilyn, who had the reins of the horse in her hands stopped him and with the help of her, as she got down first, I got down as well. I stumbled immediately as soon as I stepped onto the ground and gripped my head which had started to hurt again.

I hissed and Lara came closer to my side. "Come on, hurry in, you will feel better."

What she meant by me entering a house and feeling better, I did not understand. Her words did not make sense. Nevertheless, I went in and Chiara stood up. She was coming closer but as soon as she saw the bandages on both of us she immediately stilled and stopped right there.

"What happened to the both of you?" She moved to her daughter first and the concern she had in her eyes as a mother made me jealous for the lack of mine. "Lara, I have sent you to get fruits and vegetables for your brother. How did you end up being hit?"

"I do not know." She mumbled looking down. "Someone hit both of us, in fact, all three of us, and we do not know who it was." She whispered shyly but then looked up immediately. "Layla is here to meet brother! Is he awake?"

Chiara glanced at me once and I feared deep inside my heart that she would ask me to leave instead.

"Yes, he just woke up." She smiled at me and patted my shoulder. "In there," she pointed to a room, "Why don’t you go and talk to him? He was just fed so he might end up falling asleep soon."

I nodded in a hurry and immediately made my way to the room. I did not want him to fall asleep before I could talk to him.

I knocked on the door first but did not hear anything. Maybe, he had fallen asleep. With a sigh, I closed my eyes. I had missed an opportunity even though we had ridden fairly fast to reach there in time.

"Come in,"

My eyes widened instantly and I opened the door to see the man I had developed feelings for for all this long.

Lara’s words came to my mind and I wondered how it was true that even though I had not even stepped into the room that he was staying in and was just looking at him, I had started to feel better. The one that I felt at the back of my head was no longer there and my spirits felt lifted.

I blinked my eyes and looked at him again, just to know he was real but...

How was he alright? I frowned at what I saw. His skin was cleared of any injuries but I thought that I could be mistaken as there could be white cloth applied to his skin.

"Good evening," I whispered as I watched him looking at me with equal fascination as I did him. "How are you?" I closed the door behind me and he smiled. Oh, the wonderful smile.

"Wonderful, now that you have visited me." His answer warmed my heart. "I am truly grateful that you would take out time and come and meet me before returning to your home country."

How could he say that?

"I had to meet you. I could never leave without meeting you; it would not keep my heart calm." My words had his eyes crinkle with the huge smile graced upon his face. It made me happy.

"Ah, now mine is at peace." He sighed blissfully. "I will recover peacefully now."

I noticed something different about Tristan now. He was bolder in his words and he did not shy away. Earlier, he had maintained a respectful distance but now his hand and mine were touching.

The voice was . . Deeper and the color of his eyes had changed.

"You look like you have noticed something out of the blue." He said, observing me and I immediately noticed the change in his expressions. It had me wondering if it was just me who was thinking about this or had actually happened?

"Yes," I nodded, "you look . . .different." I looked into his eyes carefully and said, "Your eyes are darker than before. As if they are transitioning. There were silverish before and now they seem darker—"

"Leave it," he said in a deep voice which surprised me completely and I took him and carefully observed him as I took a seat on the chair that was beside the bed. "Tell me how are you? Is the prince troubling you?"

I laughed at that. "Should you not care about yourself more? How is it that even in the weakest condition for yourself you worry about me?" Now that I was closer to him it was even easier for me to observe all the changes that happened. There were a few cloth bandages around him but from what I remember most of his injuries had already healed and they did not even leave a bruise behind them.

How is it possible for him to heal so quickly?

He smiled and my heart skipped a beat. He did not hate me, instead, he pulled up a good conversation with me as if he was my long-lost friend, happy to be united.

"I have had a lot more thoughts than just this." He said and I felt his hand on mine. My eyes went to where he was touching me. I looked at my hand in his and held it with both of his providing me with the warmth that had me gushing all over. "One of them is I wish I was fine and I could come back to you to your country."

"My country?" How peculiar. "Why?" I giggled without any reason to do so. Being near him always come to me down and for some reason, it always made me happy.

"Do not laugh," I heard him complain in his deep voice which he did not have prior but that only made me tingle inside more. It was as if a whole garden of butterflies have erupted in my stomach. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

"At least listen to me." He was pleased with a naughty smile on his face and I giggled even more.

"Please," I calmed down but the smile remained, "do tell why would you want to go to my country?"

"So that I could meet your father and ask for his daughter’s hand." He revealed and I immediately took my hand back.
