Chapter 62: The merchant, your friend. - II

As soon as the words left my mouth even though they did not seem to be coming from someone confident in what was about to be given to them to do his lips stretched into a cruel smirk and I knew that I might be and for it." I don’t know," he moved around and poured himself something. "My brother is already married to a princess. The next is me."

I gulped and looked away at the words said. This was not going to go well.

"So?" I muttered. "You must begin to find a princess for your arrogant self."

He chuckled at that, unable to control it any further he started laughing loudly. Muttering something under his breath he turned around and handed me one of the glasses. "Here, lemon water. Feel a bit refreshed."

I took it from him and took a small sip.

"I have just your maid to have your bath ready." He sipped his refreshment as he looked into my eyes.

I glared at him. "How about you tell me what is going on with you instead." I hissed, "I have asked you what is it that I can do to have Tristan out of the dungeon."

"Ah, yes," he nodded in understanding, "you would surely do that for a friend, I understand that completely."

Something told me that he did not.

"But I wonder why would someone do that for their friends? After all prioritising oneself is of the utmost importance. If you get to live, you get to have friends."

I continue to listen without interrupting him from his line of questioning. He was trying to put me on the spot, a spot where I was going to allow myself to walk into the trap he has set.

All I had to do was sit back and watch him play it all about. He would soon reveal his plot himself because this time I was not going to fall in.

"Don’t you think so," he mused with a curious expression, "That you should perhaps think about what is going to happen if you try to help me out in every way possible. He is a merchant who A Queen souls never see again and if you choose to help him today you might be choosing a different future you have had chosen for yourself and have the opportunity to choose the future entirely different."

I smiled slightly with a little huff. "I want my people safe but what makes you think that I will choose the option that you provide me. I said that what is that I can do, can tell you that I do have my limitations."

He grinned slightly as if landed me where I was supposed to. "Limitations, do you want to have limitations for the man you supposedly might have feelings for?"

And finally, the dam of my patience was broken, yet I held myself back with great strength. I was better than this.

He stepped closer to me. Dared to, after saying the serious words to my face.

"What do you break your betrothal the prince of Astria and marry me in steps to save your friend?"

That was what it was going to take for him to release the merchant? For me to sell myself like a cow placed as collateral?

He fell to such lengths!

The fire of anger and Fury gripped me hard, as I stepped closer to man. "Are you sure that you are I’m your right mind?!" I hissed.

He tilted his head slightly with narrow dye is not liking with this conversation was going and how disrespectful I was being but now my anger has taken me too far to go back.

"I have been nothing but respectful to you even though you had me abducted by 5 men alone in a carriage fearing for my life and. . . dignity," I tried to calm myself at the horrible thoughts, "what makes you think that I will ever marry you?"

He smirked, enjoy my angry Insieme all riled up brought him to enjoy and entertainment. "Perhaps the fact that I am not a man who hides behind my mother’s skirts and I have a greater army and better resources."

"Yet not enough knowledge." I stepped back and turned around. "Please your highness to not make this an official proposal as I would not want to risk getting a war for refusing you." I met his eyes with tears. "I cannot do this for my . . . . co-country." I sniffed and bowed my head as a cover my nose and ran to the room that I had been given in his chambers.

"Your highness!" Immediately stood up as she saw me and came closer, surprised to see me crying.

"Quick! Close the door immediately!" I told her hurriedly in a hushed voice and she did as told immediately. I did not want the prince to follow.

Bolting door from inside, she turned to me as she breathed heavily. "What is the matter, your highness? Why are you crying?"

I sniffed and sipped off my tears as I cooled my expressions. "Was, not anymore." I sighed and turned around to go to the baths. She immediately followed and help us take off my clothes.

"Do you know where the merchant is?" I asked as my eyes were closed and I was in the bath which was filled with hot water.

"No, your highness," Merilyn said as she washed my hair. "Did you want me to find him?"

I shook my head and opened my eyes and the traitorous tears immediately slipped. "He is in prison. The P-prince has thrown in th-there." I cried giving in to my emotions and no longer holding them inside. "H-he. ."

Merilyn immediately pulled me close, not all mind getting wet herself and cooed at me as she rubbed her hands up and down in comfort.

"How could someone be this cruel?" I whispered, "On what basis did he throw him there?" 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚

The dungeons in the royal palace were something no one wanted to ever step into. But my sweet merchant was thrown inside and I could not help but think of doing the unthinkable. Something no Royal member, especially in another country, would do.

I slipped away from Merilyn and her concerned eyes met mine. "Merilyn, we must help the man escape." I declared with all my strength and courage. "We will help him escape."
