In my twenty-one years of life, I had never been to a fortune-teller simply because a princess did not step out of the palace walls to go to the market. And before this, I had never thought of sneaking out as well but since I had, I was going to use the opportunity to its fullest.

"Gemma," I tapped on her shoulder and when she looked at me I pointed behind at the tent. "I will be in there for a few moments." She look towards where I was pointing at and then looked back to the vendor and resumed her arguing with him. It seemed like she was not ready to let go of the piece of cloth even though the one she was wearing was much more high quality.

I stepped away from Gemma and moved to the tent of the fortune teller. It had an opening in front of it but I was not sure whether to enter without knocking or not. But the question was where was I supposed to knock? It was all cloth.

"Just come in." An unruly and rough voice rang out taking me by surprise. "Do not wait outside any longer. Take what you seek and leave."

Well, surely I could say that this was a rude fortune teller which explained why she was the only vendor here who did not have any customers.

I entered the tent and noticed its belongings. There was a small round table in the middle along with two chairs. One was occupied by her and one I assumed, was for me.

The whole tent was decorated with candles which gave it a soft glow. On the table was a ball of marble and the women were a lot of rings and metal jewellery.

Why would she wear jewellery if it was not real? Was that not the meaning of wearing jewels?

"What ye’ waiting fa’? Take a seat." She said in a calm voice to me and somehow it raised the hairs on the back of my neck. The setting of the whole tend was a little frightening and it was keeping me on my nerves.

Nevertheless, since I was already here, I took a seat and sat down in front of her. "I saw the sign of the fortune-telling—"

"I know I kept it there."

"Ah," the word sourly left from my mouth at the retort. This woman must not like earning money because her words and her behaviour was surely something that drove customers away. "I am sure you are not in a good mood. I think I can come back some other day." Or preferably never.

She tsked. The action alone would have stopped the heart of my governess. "Don’t ye’ worry about that. I am here for ye’ tonight."

"Me?" I frowned at that piece of information. How could she have ever known that I was stopping in the town?

She nodded as she stared into my eyes and somehow I felt that she was looking deep inside me and at my soul.

"Future tellers." She began as she took out a few small pieces of paper with four corners and started to shuffle them around. "Yer’ will find them to be real and then will find the ones who would lie ye’ and never would be seen again."

I blinked and leaned back into the chair. "Which one are you?"

She smiled quickly at that. "I would leave the decision to ye. If my telling turns true ye will know that I is real."

My eyebrows shot up at that. "But then I would choose not to pay you now. Given that you cannot show me that your future telling would be right."

Her movements stopped and her eyes snapped back to mine, offended? "From ya, I do not seek payment because you will bring change. Big change."

Had my future-telling began already or this was just something she did for fun? As her speaking skills were awful.

"Do not worry, in days yer’ will not only see what ye want to know but gather knowledge far wide than ye ever imagined." She pointed her finger at me.

"How would I ever gather knowledge that I was not seeking in the first place?" I tilted my head at her in curiousity. "What am I to do of knowledge would not benefit me?"

She giggled but her mouth remained shut. She was humouring me. "Knowledge can never be useless. The knowledge I talk of, is going to be the most useful ya could ever find. And I will tell ye this beforehand so remember it, the knowledge ye will find it will not be in any manuscript or scroll found in any Royal library or a public one. The knowledge ye want to find be found through other people. So listen carefully." She pointed at her eyes and my heartbeat quickened. But I understood the meaning behind her words.

"Gossip?" My mouth twisted at that. "Is that what you are telling me? To follow Gossip?"

She shook her head and sighed. "Headstrong and naive," she sang, "I see the princess in making for the Queen."

After she was finished I immediately felt cold, colder than I would have been without my clothes.

The way she was looking into my eyes I knew that she knew beyond what anybody knew because I had not told anyone and no one had seen my face as the second crowned princess and future Queen of Astria. I had been hidden away from the people.

I gulped and stared at her actions who had gone back to shuffling the small pieces of paper.

"How do you know?" I whispered in little fright. How can a person whom I had never met know about me when people had just heard about my existence?

She smiled but did not halt her actions. "I thought ye read this sign outside the door said." 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺

"A future-teller," I answered immediately. "Well, are you going to tell me how you know that or not?!" Without any realisation from me, I had raised my voice as I quickly asked her the question. The fear was taking over.

She placed the cards on the table and then spread them by moving her hand in one direction. "Choose four cards of yer choice. I will answer the questions that ye think of the most."
