Chapter 297: The medicines and the market - III

No one came out of the room and no one spoke out in this room. After the last word of conversation that we had, the men retired to sit outside of the room and Dorothy and I took the seat on the three stools provided near the entrance.

"What if they hurt my daughter more?" The second man spoke up. "What is the guarantee that they will not hurt my daughter or use her as a blood mare now that she is ruined?"

"She is not ruined!" I hissed at him. " I hope you realise that she is barely made into adulthood. She has a life ahead of her and if you do not find any prospects for her to marry, she can always take up the job and earn enough money to send you something as well."

Gulping, I Answered his query, "I do not know anything about that." I could only hope.

"Then why would I ever complain?!"

"Complaining or not is a choice and we will exercise it. Did you not hear her? She has a life ahead of her!" The first man whispered to the panicking father as he lightly patted his back, trying to calm him down and see clearly.

"Let us think of today first. It will take her years to recover but after that, the woman is right, she has a life ahead. Decades to come that she will get to live."

Decades that I would also get to live, but how was I going to live when I felt his hands over me, him over me... I could even at times smell his breath as if he was just around me and not dead.

I closed my eyes and tried to focus on my breathing. There was nothing more haunting than this silence that I was currently sitting in. God knew what was happening with the girl inside the room with the healer.

I could not help but think how she was going to deal with this afterwards. I had a hard time dealing with it and I still did. There are nights when I could feel his hands crawling on me before he...

She was going to go through a lot of nightmares that I had kept to myself. The young girl was definitely going to suffer a great deal and there was nothing that I could offer her on my behalf.

Shaking my head aggressively, and attracting Dorothy’s attention successfully, I tried to distract myself with something else.

Just as I was about to think of something else, the door to the room opened and the person who had taken the bottle from us to refill, stepped out.

"We have treated the injuries and the bleeding has stopped." He addressed the three men who stood at the moment the door opened. "You should call her mother so that she can change her dressing. We will explain how. The rest of it will be known when she wakes up."

So she was fine for the timing. I could only imagine what the little girl would go through once she would wake up.

He gave us a note and disappeared behind the same door that he had gone inside before only this time to appear with the bottle in his hand.

Paying him for the medicine, Dorothy and I walked back out of the house only to find the line that had three people previously to be extended to at least 15 people more.

Well, they were seriously not kidding about the healer being the best.

" they must be waiting for us by now," Dorothy whispered to me, "we must leave as soon as we can."

I nodded silently and allowed her to hold my hand as we hurriedly moved past the small lanes of the slums.

The girl was raped. Someone Else, a lot younger than I was, was going to go through the same thing. My entire evening had been dampened and I had no idea how quickly time passed and before I knew it, it was the evening and we had reached home.

I sighed as I made my way to the room of the prince. I had to check on him as Sir Walter checked on his wife.

Opening the door to the room, I came face-to-face with the prince who was staring at the ceiling but once he noticed that I was watching him, he leveled my stair.

Huh.

"so, how does it feel to be used as a punching bag?"

He coughed suddenly, unexpecting the question.

"Exactly," I moved closer, close enough to stand right next to his body on the bed but did not bother sitting down, "I have received very bad news and I would prefer if you behave like a sick man that you are. We all will care for you but God forbid if you try to take advantage of it, I’m going to leave you here. Do you understand?"

He blamed his eyes once, twice as if he was thinking about something before he opened his mouth. "I.. you’ve changed.."

The words were raspy as if he did not have enough strength to say it but he did and they hit right where they were supposed to. I had changed.

I would have never spoken to someone who is so injured in such a manner. But he was getting on my nerves and he was being disrespectful to everyone who was taking care of him.

"I don’t care if I have changed or not. We are taking care of you so you better be respectful." Giving a final nod as goodbye to him, I moved out of the room and closed the door on my way out.

But I did not move away and into the living room immediately. I stayed next to the door to the prince’s room.

I hope they went and complained to the vampires. And above that all, I hope that they all shared the similar sentiments as Tristan did.
