The Princess's Dangerous Vampire Mate-Chapter 276: The kitchens - I
"And this," she pointed to another lady with red eyes, "is the mother of Bert. You know him, yes?"
I nodded and smiled at the woman, "Yes, I do know him. How are you?"
The woman chuckled and another meaning less conversation drawled on.
There was a time when I would thrive on these conversations. When someone had a crown over their head, everyone wanted to talk to you.
I was ready for all of their conversations. Some of them were trying to butter me up while the others were trying to put me down by taking up topics of trade and commerce thinking that I would have no knowledge about them.
I did though. I was thankful to my mother for that.
On the other hand, here, I was being introduced to people that were not of this world yet seemed to be.
Everytime I would laugh and smile at someone genuinely, the red eyes would haunt me.
The fact that in their golden goblets were the blood of people that have been killed for this.
Elsbeth introduced me to various people. Some of them were in relation to twisted while some or even more, were in relation to Alan.
Perhaps it was only me and my two maids that could be counted as the family of Marilyn. Other than that there was no one else that belonged to Merlyn and could classify as someone who knew her, who cherished her.
She was not here yet and until then, I had polite conversations with people.
My eyes, time and again, moved to the entrance for the servants who were bringing in the drinks.
They were coming directly from the kitchens and I needed a reason to get inside them. However that was going to be difficult, because if i did, someone if not everyone would definitely notice that.
"Don’t you think so, Camille?" Bert’s mother gushed. "I cannot wait for him to find his beloved."
Camille was definitely the happiest person in the room. The bright smile on her face made me happy too.
Merilyn deserved someone like that as her mother-in-law. After losing her at such a young age, she always yearned for a relationship like that. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
By now, many people have joined the ceremony and I could feel many of them glancing towards me. It must be responsibility of Elsbeth to introduce me to the people because you always remain by my side.
If I wanted to go into the kitchens, the first person I had to escape was Elsbeth.
Glancing at my side, I found her talking to someone who had introduced to me what was now busy in a conversation with her. Perhaps I could use this opportunity.
"Elsbeth," I touched her elbow and she abandoned her conversation immediately.
"Yes?"
"Do you mind if I go upstairs and use the washroom?" I smiled sheepishly, "You have been with me for the entire evening, so I thought of informing you before leaving."
Elsbeth waved it off with a smile. "I understand. However, are you sure you will be able to go on your own? Do you want me to assist you with that dress?"
I have to agree with her concerns. The dress was extremely heavy but it was also the least of my concerns.
"I will be fine. Thank you, Elsbeth." Squeezing her elbow gently in gratitude I picked up the skirt of the dress before working out of the room and ignoring every eye that I could feel on my back.
I almost ran out of the hall but the weight of the dress suppressed the speed. I could not go through the entrance that the servants were coming from. Even if the vampires will not born royalty, they would definitely pick up on it.
Once I was out of the ballroom that we had shifted in once people started to arrive, the first thing I did was try to find the side halls used by servants.
I narrowed my eyes on the walls. Where in the world were the doors?
They were supposed to be on every floor and here I could find none.
"Lady Genevieve?"
I froze in mid step before relaxing my muscles and turning around to find Solomon. "Yes?"
His frowning face made my heart clench. How long had he been standing there for? Had he been following me like he always did?
If he had, then he must have understood that I was not going upstairs because I was very far from the route I was supposed to take and that could land in trouble.
Not to forget that I had witnessed his anger too.
"Forgive me for asking, but what are you doing here?" He stopped at the distance of two arms in between us. "Your presence is required in the ballroom. Do you know the way? I can escort you, if you allow me."
He didn’t know..or maybe, he acted like he didn’t.
"I know where it is." I answered, trying to keep my voice leveled. "I am just going to go upstairs to my room for something."
"Ah, yes." He nodded, "i shall follo—"
"No need!" I shook my head before he could finish it, "I will not require your presence for this. Thank you so much, but I must go."
Without waiting for him to say anything, I picked up the skirts of my dress in a very unladylike manner and ran away from him, as much as the weight of the dress would allow.
Knowing when the vampire could hear me, I have to change my destination towards the staircase and climb my way up to the floor above us.
For a moment, I stopped and checked behind me to see if he was following me or not and thankfully I did not find anyone there.
Turning around and realizing that I was on the first floor of the palace which I had not explored yet made me slightly worried. Where was I going to find—
"Your highness?" I heard a small voice on the corner of the hallway and on looking, I found a familiar face.
"Rula?" I squinted at her only to receive a nod.
"We have been waiting for you," she revealed hesitant look on her face, "we just wanted to know if you were going to help us or not."
Well, they were in luck because I had been searching for this very opportunity.
