The Princess's Dangerous Vampire Mate-Chapter 275: The night begins - III
"Excuse me, my love," Tristan’s hand on my back got me back to reality, making me look away from the man and towards him. "I have to check a few things with Solomon. Would you be alright if I leave you alone for a few minutes?"
"Yes," I answered and only when he turned away to leave did I look back at Konrad.
"Wha—How?" I gulped. "How do you know him?"
"The correct question would be how you know him," Dominick pointed out. "However, I will look past that. Konrad has been a friend of mine for a very long time."
I nodded but did not remove my eyes from the visit before his words settled and the realisation dawned on me. "A friend?"
Dominick nodded and there was some unknown gleam in his eyes shining brightly at the moment. "An old and useful friend he has been. I have been told that he has performed if you act for you as well."
He did. He had done a lot.
"Wait..you—’
"Yes?" Dominick nodded, surprisingly encouraging me to speak.
"Are you aware of what," I continuously chose my words very carefully, "of what konrad has done for me?" 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
"Yes." Dominick answered right away. "He has been a friend to me longer than you can imagine, child. And in friendship one learns to tell the important things."
But there was something that did not sit right with me. To me, it looked like Dominick knew more than he was letting on. In fact, there was a whole mountain of secrets buried in the mind of this man.
"How is it that you knew of my mother and how is it that you know Konrad too?"
"Why?" He titled his head. "Are you expecting some kind of link in between the two?"
Now I felt more like how Estelle had wanted me to be. I was questioning things and finding out the reason for why they happened and now it seems to be more important than leaving it to chance.
"I am not expecting any link between the two of them. What I am thinking about is the link these two have with you."
Dominick smiled. His smile was not something that could be out of happiness, but something that certainly made me question his intentions.
"Why you expect me to share the links I have football to them with you?" He widened his smile, "when my sister told me that you were quiet a mute character here, I refused to believe in knowing that you were a daughter of Cynthia."
"And now?"
"Now you prove my sister wrong because you have a spine, Genevieve. A very strong spine just like your mother did." He chuckled. "I wish that you do not end up like her."
"Queens in general end up like tha—"
"Not necessarily no," he cut me off with a firm shake of his head, "your father was the downfall of your mother and I help you do not make the same mistake of choosing a king who is weak."
A good daughter would definitely stand against him and take a stand for her father, defending him against someone who just called him weak.
I was a good daughter but I was also aware of the fact that my father had caused more damage than he had done good. The Kingdom that once thrived in the rule of my mother was now drowned in debt and I was never not going to acknowledge that.
"You talk to me like I have a title and that I will become a queen." I pointed out the fact. "It is my eldest sister Estelle who is in the line to become the queen first."
"And no one will ever deny her of that if she makes it." Dominick replied with certain seriousness. "In fact, we will make sure to send our help."
"Your help?"
"Yes," the man in front of me nodded without any offence from my accusing tone. "Even though we look like savages and might appear to be so, we believe in having good relations with our neighbours and family members."
Family members? Who would anyone ever want to be a member in the family of someone who could possibly kill them?
That could happen in any family, only in this one, one could suck you dry.
"You do not think very highly of us," Dominick noted, "but you have not given us your time."
"I have been here for months and both sides of my neck have been bitten by your family members. So kindly excuse me for having rational fear against those that like to have blood more than fruit."
"Ah, excused," he waved his hand at that. "I would still ask you for more time because even though we might appear gruesome on the outside, we are a close community that protects each other."
"Close communities do not rule kingdoms."
At my statement, his smiled, "then you should be the perfect candidate for ruling The Kingdom." His eyes moved at someone behind me, "perhaps marrying the king would give you the appropriate status to rule The Kingdom, no?"
Realisation dawned on me and I scoffed. It had all been a verbal trap and he had succeeded in weaving me in one.
He was clever and he was Tristan’s uncle. Lord knew what his nephew was capable of.
"Ah, look who we have here," a woman appeared by his side, "Elsbeth, my beloved and the mother of my son."
"Good evening," she wished with a charming smile on her face, "I have been meaning to find and talk to you."
Did she? By her looks, she didn’t appear to be someone as malicious and clever as her husband, but I could never know for sure.
"Good evening," I nodded lightly, "I hope you did not travel with much discomfort."
"Oh no, not at all," she laughed, "with the given speed and strength it only takes a few hours to cover the distance anyways."
"Never mind that," she smiled and caught a hold of my hand, "come, I shall introduce you!"
