Chapter 264: Bitten necks - II

Did they?

Her words paved the way to another question and a series of them were followed in my mind.

They never seem to grow old, and that was something that sir Walter had told me about. In fact, he had warned me about it.

If they never seem to grow old, or at least at a speed that was not in comparison to us, how are any of them supposed to spend our lives together?

So why were the bite marks going to change us?

I did remember very clearly what Tristan had told me about the transition when it came to Marilyn. She had been bitten by Allan, and it was the small amount of spit belonging to a vampire that had changed her at the very end.

But this was where it did not make sense to me, it happened when the blood or the spit transfused into the body of the human and they had to die to become a vampire.

According to Rula, he drank the blood from her and then disappeared into the night and out of her room, until the next darkness descended.

"Does he ever make you drink anything?" My eyes search for any kind of hidden recognition or deception in the eyes of the young maid. "Something out of his wrist, something thick out of a glass or perhaps..kiss you?"

Rula blinked at what I said as if trying to recall anything like that. She looked uncertain for a while before she finally decided to tell, "sometimes I feel.." she pointed to her head, "dizzy. It is then he usually gives me something in a small container."

I leaned back slightly. So, the vampires did give something to the victims in case they passed away or died from the excess blood loss.

"I.." she gulped, "There is something I want to tell.."

I noticed her eyes darted here and there, any way except my face or Dorothy’s.

"What is it?" I asked her softly, not wanting to startle her. "You can tell me anything you want, Rula."

Rula looked up and her eyes searched for something in mind before she nodded her head. "W-we feel something.. it’s different and it surpasses the pain."

I narrowed my eyes ever so slightly. What was said that could surpass the pain?

"What is it?"

She licked her lip nervously, "I don’t know what to call it but the others call it a pleasure. When they drink from us.. it is the pleasure we feel more and not the pain."

I widened my eyes just as Dorothy did.

"Pleasure?" I repeated, dumbfounded at what she said.

"You feel pleasure when they bite you?"

Rula nodded, before looking away and at the ground. "Everyone does." She replied defensively and I understood why.

I had told her that I would not charge her and she could tell me anything but here I was, judging and criticizing her with my eyes and had not even begun with my words.

What should that not be criticized?

How was being bitten by having blood sucked out of you an act of pleasure? Who could consider it as such?

"I.." Rula blushed a bright shade of pink as she stuttered, "it is not just me." She repeated again.

She was defending herself and the feelings that she was feeling. What she said repeatedly was that it was not only her...

"So there are others who are being bitten by names and are feeling pleasure?"

She nodded.

I do not know if I should ask this or not, but my decision depended on the facts.

"If you are feeling pleasure, then why are you complaining about it?"

Her head snapped up instantly at my words if she had been least expecting it. Rula’s eyes watered at what I said and an embarrassed blush spread all over her face and neck.

"I.." she stuttered before sniffing, "just because we feel pleasure does not mean we consent to it."

My heart skipped a beat and I realized as I closed my eyes that was exactly what I wanted to hear.

"So if," I sighed, looking down at the floor in between us and gathering as much courage as I could. "If you and people like you that are suffering, got the chance of leaving, would you?"

She scoffed, without missing a beat. This scenario that I had created seemed nothing but a joke to her. "There is no way, that anyone except God can give us that window to escape—"

"If you get it," I firmly interjected, "would you take it?"

"The first chance I get, I won’t look back," Rula whispered. "I would run." She was paid further before her eyes teared up and I could tell those tears of anger and helplessness.

There.

I smiled before nodding a little and getting up, "thank you for your help, Rula." I extended my hand To the maid who took it with slight hesitancy but stood up. "You might want to tell your friends about what is going to happen. And remember the first chance you get," I repeated the words, "you run without looking back."

Rula nodded hurriedly and a small hopeful smile on her face. I could see that she was uncertain, wondering if I would stand up on the promise I made to her or I would just forget her like any other Royal.

But I would.

I have the absolute reason to. In fact, I did not just have one but now I had two and maybe more.

Rula nodded once more before she turned around to leave only to stop and freeze.

I frowned and stared at her halted figure. "Is something the matter, Rula?"

She turned around and I saw her throat gulping. "Jax is supposed to visit me and I have been here with you.." she whispered before her chin started to tremble dangerously. "He would be waiting.."

Understanding dawned on me and I nodded. She was afraid of this reaction and I would be too if I was in her place.

"Dorothy," addressed my lady-in-waiting, "Rula will be sleeping in my room tonight."

If I was declared as the future queen, then this was my first act of it.
