The Princess's Dangerous Vampire Mate-Chapter 263: Bitten necks - I
That was surprisingly quick and even unexpected because I had not expected the girl to tell me what I wanted to know.
"You are courageous, Rula," I did not hold back on my praises, "it takes great courage to speak against the wrong—"
"You know," Her face twisted into an ugly and angry expression as she glared at me. "That you are going to be the queen of all of them! Of us?!"
I fell silent, staring at her in shock. For a moment, I felt like a princess who had a servant yelling at her and that was completely out of the blue.
"I hope you understand that it would be a petty thing to do if you are testing my loyalty when you are aware of how they are treating humans. Humans mean you and me!" She hissed at me.
For some reason, I think she would rather have knives be thrown at me than her words.
Her words were bitter and they were full of attack but her eyes stayed on my feet even though she appeared to be glaring at them. It was clear that she was forced to be here but was fearful enough to not say no.
I looked at my eyes for a second to the floor before looking at her and addressing her cleans and fears,
"Rula, I am not testing your loyalty to the ground. Or I am asking you what happened to that bite and how frequently it happens to others. I just want to hear about it. And as for the claim of me being the queen—"
Rula shook her head, silencing me in between my words.
"I do not want to know what you think because those claims are true." Her eyes shone brighter as if the words that she spoke were true. "I know that is the truth, we know that is the truth because the king and his.. kind has made us aware time and again about it."
What?
The questions were on the tip of my tongue and just as I moved to ask, I stopped.
Rula was ready to answer my questions regarding the bite but she was not ready to answer those that were concerning my queenship.
And my queenship depended on what her answers were going to be regarding the story behind the mark. For all I knew, with what was in one of the chests in my room I might not make it to the queenship at all.
"Tell me about the mark," my eyes focused on the bite mark, "who gave it to you? Has it ever happened before?"
She gulped. "Jax is someone who gives it to me."
I frowned. The sound of it gave me slide terrors, urging me to confirm, "has it only been him, Jax?"
She nodded, looking away.
So it had only been one and by far that was the only good news that I could find in it. However, it did not cease my questioning.
"I don’t want you to take it the wrong way," I licked my lips, "is it always one person to bite you and drink from you?"
Rula nodded. "Whoever is beaten, is always beaten by one person only."
This was something that Tristan also said. Marilyn had better me and had almost sucked me dry of my blood and that was unnerving Tristan because I had seen him pushing around to punish Marilyn because of it.
Which meant that Jax, the boy that was biting her, was possibly her beloved.
But the beloved also meant that it was forever.. did it not mean that they would marry each other like Marilyn and Alan were?
"..They..just come and take what you want.." Rula hiccupped and sniffed loudly. "I have never known them to ask permission from anyone and I just..just they bite and suck the blood.."
Oh, dear... I held her knee, caressing it softly as she continued to talk and Babble what came to her mind.
"They never ask and continue to take and take and take until we pass out or..are on the verge of it.." she loudly and forcefully tried to suck all the snot in but I could see it dripping down her nose.
"I..hate—I hate it.." she mumbled to herself. "Why do they have permission to just take? When we worked for the house of stonebow we never asked for permission and now that we work here you will never ask for permission either. What are we supposed to do? Everyone is so powerful!"
Rula was on the verge of crying but all of a sudden her eyes widened and she looked at me.
"I am sorry," she sniffed and shook her head before wiping her tears. "You called me here to help you. I am just crying. Forgive me your Highne—"
"It’s fine," I cut her off, waving it away.
She had been courageous enough to even come and say it in front of me. Why would I be offended when that was what I wanted to happen?
"I.." what should I say? She was already crying!
Perhaps if Estelle had been here it would have been better. She would not have strayed away from the task and her heart would not have strayed away from someone crying.
I swallowed down the guilt. "When does he come?"
"Night." She answered immediately. "They always come in the light. For the ones that work at night, we come in the early hours of the morning."
So it was true then. They did not make their presence known in the sun. They did not even feed then.
"Why don’t you tell me more about the mark?" I pointed to the mark on her neck. "I know they must force you for this, what is the case to make it daily then.." I did not know how to frame the words ’you should have died’ politely.
She chuckled. "Whenever they take more or just whenever they take it, they give some of their own to us." Rula let out A bitter chuckle. "It’s like they want us to be vampire’s too."
