Chapter 225: Chain’s again - II

Bert handed me the cup of tea and I took it from him gratefully thanking him as well. Placing the saucer down on the table I held the teacup in my hands as I browsed through the books on which ones I wanted to take after all I had appearances to keep up to.

I picked up a small book consisting of manuscripts. It appeared that Astria was far more welcoming to these inventions that my kingdom was.

I picked up two more random books without paying attention to what was on the cover to what they were about. A book could never be wrong.

Bert held the books for me as We moved outside of the library and I handed off the tea cup to a random maid.

I was lazily descending the stairs and focusing on what was downstairs. The stairs are large enough for me to gaze down and I saw something making me stop.

Tristan and Darius along with two other men walked just from the floor below me. This seemed to be engaged in some sort of conversation not paying attention to where they were going as it came naturally to them. I stared at the side of his face. He looked so beautiful as the sun highlighted his cheek bones I gulped. He was so handsome. I found it hard to believe there were men like him in the world. Not only that but, to believe that he was a merchant or portraying to be one when I saw him and he was with the Crown, on his head, of the king. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

I watched carefully as Tristan stopped momentarily and his neck turned to look up, making me take many steps back. I slid to the other end of the stairs. I leaned against the wall. I could no longer see him.

Did he see me?

I glanced at the figure appearing to me from the corner of my eye. It was Bert and he blinked at him quizzically.

"Did he see me?" I mouthed the words to him.

Bert shook his head but then pointed his finger downstairs, "He saw me." He pointed to himself as he mouthed the words to me.

What did th— oh! It was obvious that since he was my God if he was there then so was I!

I turned to ascend the stairs that I had descended and walked back to the library when I heard,

"Look at that," I heard the awfully familiar voice, "it has been such a long time since we met each other lady genevieve or should I call you, your highness?"

I blinked my eyes as I turned around and smiled, greeting the king. I curtursed. "Good morning, Your highness. Did you have a good rest?"

His eyes, just as the last time I had seen them, twinkled with delight. "I think it’s about time you start addressing me by my name after all you are the wi— you have agreed to courtship."

I had agreed to courtship not becoming Tristan’s wife so why was he asking me to call him by his name?

"I’m afraid I cannot do that your highness," I, very respectfully, declined, "I must address you with your title and the respect it comes with." I bowed my head slightly.

Tristan was silent but I did not glance at him. I wanted to but I held back.

Darius hummed and nodded as he lowered his head. "Well, the request continues to stand from me."

Tristan moved and I saw that from the corner of my eye before turning my face to him.

"What are you doing here?" He asked but did not smile. "Did I not ask you to rest?"

"You did bu—"

"It was a yes or no question." He interrupted me and I could not even exercise the shock I felt. "I did not ask for the reason."

He didn’t so I kept quiet not knowing how else to proceed in this situation. I felt so embarrassed.

His eyes moved to Bert. "I understand that there was a task given to Solomon but why are you here and why is she not resting?"

Bert bowed slightly before speaking and raised his hands to show the books to Tristan. "Her majesty said that she would not be able to rest without a good book. I think she wanted to nap after reading."

Majesty. . .well, they had already made me the queen.

"Did she?" Tristan murmured. "Could you not write the names of the books you wanted? Is it not important for you to rest well and get back to being healthy?"

I felt my eyes burn slightly as I looked away from him. He was being awfully mean. I sniffed slightly. Did he have to do this when we were with people?

I could not even look up to see if they were still there.

"Genevieve," a finger on my chain making me look up as it pushed my chin, "do you not care about yourself? You do know that rest is important for humans to heal, don’t you?"

I nodded, staring into his eyes. They held me captive and I noticed for the first time the soft touches of brown in them. They were mesmerizing.

"If you do, then you should rest. The blood you lost needs to be made up for by your body and not my blood." His hand left my chin. "I cannot have you unchained."

My eyes widened. "What!" Did he—was he going to chain me up again? "No, you cannot do that."

"Then rest," his hand rested on my cheek and I could feel it warming up under his touch. "I must not see you before lunch and when I do you should be well rested and I will know."

I did not doubt his words because somehow he always managed to know. I nodded.

"I shall leave then."

He nodded before he leaned towards me and placed a soft kiss on my head. "Take care." He said as he walked away with Darius who winked at me.
