Chapter 206: The wolves - I

I had never seen anything so scary in my entire life. This dog was massively overgrown and not only that but the feral look in his eyes told me that he was looking for blood.

"Stay behind me," Chiara’s hand found its whey on my stomach as she slowly and very gently tried to push me behind, "step very slowly, very slowly behind me." She whispered.

If I was not scared enough already then her words made me gulp. "Wh-what is it?"

"Wolf." She whispered as she stared at the wolf in its eyes. "Do not move," tilted her head slightly and I knew that this time she was talking to me.

I looked at the animal who was ready to attack us at any moment. How did it even enter the palace given there were Guards all around. Someone must have noticed such a big animal entering around. It was astonishing to realise that this animal had gotten past everything and it arrived on one of the top floors that was inhabited by the royal family.

I stayed where I was, frozen in my place as I stared at the animal. It looked dangerous and I knew it in my heart so that it could rip me into pieces.

He growled and I stepped back slightly in fear. Chiara took a small step back making me do the same only for my foot to land on top of the dress making me stumble and fall down.

I yelped as I fell on my bottom as Chiara hissed loudly making me look at her. She attacked and pounced on the wolf just as the wolf did on her. She tackled him to the ground and held his mouth.

She held his mouth which the wolf was constantly trying to close by eating her fingers. He moved his head around crashing against her hold as she tried to maintain her weight on him.

"Hurry!" She yelled at me. "Call someone, everyone!" She screamed, pushing me into action.

I stood up hurriedly and held my skirts bunching them up in my fist as I turned and ran towards the dining room just as uncle Dawson and Tristan were coming out.

Tristan noticed me coming to them and immediately turned to walk.

I didn’t wait. "Wolf. . Chiara!" I yelled, heaving slightly, " there!" I pointed behind.

Dawson practically flew past me into the direction that I had been pointing at. I didn’t even see his figure as it passed me and so did Tristan who followed his uncle closely behind.

I leaned over to the wall and tried to catch my breath. I had never run as quickly as I had done today. But Chiara was fighting a wolf and they needed all the help that they could get.

Ignoring the pain in my legs and in my chest I ran back where I had left her and the wolf. I had covered the great distance while running and I found it equally difficult to run back to the exact spot only to stand still in surprise as I found no one there.

There was no aunt, no uncle Dawson, no Tristan and especially no wolf.

I stepped closer to the small spot that appeared to grow as I neared it. Blood was on the carpet and it was a huge amount making me wonder if the wolf had dug its teeth into the skin of Tristan’s aunt.

If the wolf had bitten his aunt I was sure that it must have gotten a good chunk of skin out because this amount of blood was not normal. She must be in so much pain.

I licked my lip and moved towards the healers hallway. She must be taken there. I reached the stairs and descended them down in a hurry, eager to reach her as quickly as possible and provide the help that I was capable of.

Just as I turned to have another pair of stairs in front of me, uncle Dawson appeared as he was climbing the stairs up. "Genevieve?" He said, shock coating his face, "where are you going in such a hurry?"

"To Chiara," I answered immediately. "She must need help!"

"Help?" He repeated, "What help?"

What was going on? Why was he acting so clueless? "Is she well? I saw the blood on the carpet." I pointed up to where the blood on the carpet was.

He stared at me for a few moments before laughing lightly. "No, Genevieve we were able to reach there in time and we certainly overpowered the wolf."

"Oh," I blinked and it all came rushing back to me. They were creatures of the night and they had unparalleled strength. Of course, it was easier for all of them to do this.

I nodded. I was worried for no reason. I nodded again and turned around to go upstairs but Chiara’s voice stopped me, "Genevieve,"

I turned around immediately to see her standing fine and not bleeding. She had a frown over her head. "What are you doing here? Should you not be resting?"

I pointed to her for a quick moment. " I was looking for you. I thought the blood on the carpet was yours."

Her expressions softened and I saw her mate giving her a pointed look.

"Oh," she breathed out and stepped up, "you came to check on me. I thank you for that." She smiled slightly.

I smiled back and noticed that there was no no evidence about her fighting a wolf by her bare hands and winning. "Where is the wolf?"

Chiara shrugged. "He was taken away by the gods. I think he would be taken in for questioning or he might be put down. It depends on what we have to do when we get the word from their king."

Their king? Wolves had king’s?

Chiara must have noticed the confusion on my face. "Genevieve, I thought you had met Darius."

"I have." I agreed.

The frown on her face grew more prominent. "Then how do you not know who Darius is?"
