The Princess's Dangerous Vampire Mate-Chapter 178: The secretary - II
The man’s hand froze mid air and his lips were out. "What?" He murmured before placing down the cup. "Why?"
"Why, what? Have you not seen the recent change in the royal family?" I scowled slightly at the change the man had immediately given. "What is the matter sir Walter?"
"They. ." He began but hesitated and looked around the room. "I don’t think we should talk about it."
"Why not?" My frown grew more prominent at that.
He licked his lips. The hesitance he had to talk about the matter did not go past me. "They can hear us." He told me.
My eyebrows shot up. "Someone is here? In the library?"
He shook his head. "They can hear anything, they can hear what we are talking about at the end of the hallway. We cannot talk here." He stood up.
I watched in silence as he walked closer to me and held his hand out. "Come with me princess, We must go out and talk."
"Out?" I chuckled, "if they can hear us behind Those huge and thick doors I think they could easily hear us if we are walking outside."
He shook his head silently but did not answer me. He only stretched his hand further. I trusted sir Walter. He had been one of the most loyal followers that my mother ever had and he had supported a queen to sit on the throne. So I placed my hand in his and let him place my teacup down before walking out of the library.
He took us to the lowest floor and made us walk in the garden, in the bright sun.
"Can we not have a parasole?" I could barely see anything and I had to narrow my eyes to see how bright the sun was. It was noon.
He nodded and went back inside. By the time he returned I had already found myself space under some tree to provide me some shade.
"What now?" I asked him.
"I have asked a maid. She is stretching it for you." By the time he finished talking a maid came with two parasols in her hand.
I took one, Sir Walter denied.
"Come," he led us forward in the gardens and we took a walk. "Ask me what you want to ask now."
"Well," first things first, "why are we walking outside in the brightest time of the day?"
He nodded and smiled at me. "I knew you had asked that. Only some of them can come outside, especially when it is this bright." 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
"Them?" I repeated, "Vampires?" He nodded. "They cannot come out in the sun question mark and what do you mean by only some of them can?"
"As in, creatures of the dark can come out in the sunlight and there are some that refrain from doing so. I understand that they are unable to do it naturally and those who can must have had something involved to make them able to do that." He thinned his lips, "unfortunately I do not know what that is."
I nodded. That was knowledgeable. "What about the king of them? Were you there when the overthrow of the royal family happened?"
He nodded. "I was." Then he fell quiet.
I did not force him to talk but paid attention to where we were walking. He did not go around the palace. We were still walking in the bright sunlight.
"I do not leave the library. I have been given a room there along with my wife. The only time we leave is to eat when the staff does. It was a bloody night and I can tell you by the screens that no one wants to witness it again."
I prayed for the souls martyred.
"The next thing we know is we are being dragged out by people paler than ever have ever seen and blood around the holes. Queen Anastasia and Prince Terence in front of the Grand courtroom. Those people announced that they had been defeated and after that I do not know where the real family was taken."
"What after that?" I murmured as my mood dimmed as well. War was not a pleasant topic to talk about.
He breathed loudly before talking. "They announced who the new king was and then they made us aware of who they were. Those who stood against it were killed right on the spot and those who wanted to leave were given the option to. I don’t even know if that ever happened, but my wife and I decided to stay because we had nowhere to go. Royalties change and this one was the biggest one I have ever seen."
Of course it was the biggest change the world had ever seen by sir Walter. The royalty was not overthrown by humans but of different creatures that we have never heard of.
"Did you never see the royal family?" I asked him again, turning to him slightly, looking at him once more, "because if they were executed then there should have been a public one."
"Yes, a public execution of the royal family was a must but I did not see that. That means either they were killed in secret or they are still living."
I sighed. This was not good to know and knowing that Tristan was a part of this all did not sit well with me but I had to know more. "What of the king?"
"One of them." Was Sir Walter’s immediate reply, "I do not know if he can work in the sun or not but I have seen him in the courtroom along with a few people. I have also seen him at times talking to soldiers . I think some of them were converted to creatures of the dark."
I stopped. "What? Converted?" I could not believe that. "Were they . . . . willing?"
He looked grim. "I do not know."
I turned around and we started walking again. There was more to go, much more to go.
