Chapter 84: Theron SkyFire

Esme’s breath caught in her throat as Wise, or rather Theron, stared into her eyes. For whatever reason she could not look away, it was as though he was locked in a trance.

He was assessing her, using his dragon senses to probe every part of her and determine if she was a threat to him.

’Is this how it feels like to be in the presence of a dragon?’

Both times she had encountered dragons at close range, they had always cloaked their presence, and now she knew why.

Theron watched her for a while longer before speaking.

"You are not a dragon... half-elf? Sorry, I don’t seem to—"

He suddenly paused and his eyes turned sharp, then Daphne suddenly burst into the room, pushing Esme behind her.

Aofie and Freya arrived a second later.

The shadows in the room began to swirl, moving towards Daphne and forming a makeshift wall of tendrils.

"What happened?" Daphne asked, but Esme’s eyes were still locked on Theron.

Thwack!

A quick slap to the side of her cheek was all she needed to get back to her senses. Daphne shook her shoulders and turned her gaze away from him.

"H-he looks like Wise, but he calls himself Theron," she stuttered.

Even from downstairs, Daphne had felt that overwhelming presence. It was something Wise had only allowed her to see once.

That was because it was terrifying.

She felt like she was constantly being watched, as though she was being probed. A feeling that caused her heart to tremble and her mind to wander, one that made those underneath it powerless.

That was the true nature of a Dragon’s presence, that was why they retained dominance over all beasts.

If that was the aura coming from a young dragon, how would Adeline’s aura had been? What about the aura of the nine Dragon Lords?

Daphne gritted her teeth and took a step back, pushing Esme back with each step she took.

Theron raised a brow. "Stop."

His words were commanding, they were final, and like a vice they had taken hold of her, rendering her powerless.

Her legs suddenly locked, and as though she was placed in a trance, she was unable to move, or rather unwilling to.

It was not that she could not move, her body simply rejected the notion of it. That was because she knew... that disobedience meant death.

Theron turned and walked toward the window. He pulled it open and glanced at the world outside.

"The city of Domum, how peculiar."

He shut the window and walked towards them before he suddenly stopped...

"Get out," he said, his words cold and blunt. But it was not meant for them, no, Theron had said those words to himself.

’It was that Wise?!’

The slight waver in his presence was enough for Daphne to take action. The shadows in front of her rushed forward and completely engulfed Theron.

The shadows tying him down to the room, binding his arms, legs and even wings.

"I’ll hold him back, run!" Daphne screamed. But it was useless, nobody moved.

Aofie’s fingers were twitching at her sides, lightning dancing around them but she did nothing.

Meanwhile, Freya and Esme were completely frozen, their bodies paralyzed by the weight of his words.

Whoosh!

A rush of wind blew past them as the shadows were rent to pieces, just from one wave of his wings.

Theron grabbed onto one of the shadow tendrils and before Daphne knew it, she came flying through the air, right into Theron’s grip.

Lightning flashed from behind her as Aofie completely shocked herself back to reality, her body engulfed in sparks.

Then she sprinted forward, her body a blur as she cut to the other side of the room within seconds, her lightning blade in hand.

Boom!

Lightning exploded forward and Aofie struck with her sword, but Wise’s wings completely swallowed the strike.

She tried to dart back but it was far too late, Theron’s hand found its way to her neck as well, pulling her close to him.

Although he had them by the neck, Daphne noticed that not only had he withdrawn his claws, he was also gripping them lightly, with just enough force to keep them in place.

He smiled as he watched them both as they struggled to break free. "Normally, people as weak as you would fail to move in my presence."

"You are valiant warriors, I respect that."

"Although I would love to stay and chat it seems I have run out of time, so I’ll leave you with a message."

His face turned serious, and although he was looking at them his gaze was distant, as though he was staring into the past.

"The war against demons that has raged on for years, the alliance of all nations—"

Splurt!

Theron gagged as blood suddenly poured out of his mouth, nose and eyes. His grip loosened and he let go of Daphne and Aofie, stumbling back.

"Wise?!" Daphne called out, her voice filled with panic. She was about to hurry over to him when he raised a hand to stop her.

"T-Theron, for now, call me T-theron."

A large runic circle suddenly appeared above his head. It was reddish-black and had countless complex inscriptions, but there was one Daphne picked from the rest.

’Is that a bird? A Phoenix?’

The dark rune was slowly rotating like a disk on a record player and an eerie energy pulsed about it, sparkling ominously.

Just as it appeared, Theron’s body was engulfed in flame. His blue flames surrounded every single part of his being and his horns began to glow blue.

He was finally able to stand up straight, a slight grimace on his face.

"E-everything is a lie, constructed by one man!"

The runic circle suddenly expanded, becoming even more powerful. Daphne could feel the demonic energy seeping out of it as it doubled.

Now two runic circles were hovering above him.

Theron buckled, his legs shaky.

Whoosh!

The fire around him intensified, but just as it did a third runic circle appeared. He fell to his knees, coughing out more blood.

"F-find Akako," he said through gritted teeth, and then he was overcome by an intense headache.

"...Get to the S-sky mountains." More blood gushed out of his mouth but he looked up with a fierce look in his glowing eyes.

"Run, until you gain power—k-keep running, never stop." He managed to spit out.

"The Hero will come for us all."

Suddenly, the suffocating presence fell.

The runic circles above him fizzled away and he blinked, his eyes turning back to their rounded human form.

Wise cussed and rose to his feet, his body unstable.

"What a bitch."
