Chapter 44: Deadly Circumstances

Taryn hurried over to where Daphne lay and quickly inspected her wounds.

There was a deep cut by her side bleeding profusely and a number of minor cuts and bruises all over her body.

Taryn briskly walked to her shelf and pulled it open, just as she heard a crash from outside.

’The city guard?’ She wondered, thankful to have received more time.

Shuffling through the shelf, her hands finally landed on the substance she was looking for, a healing potion similar to the balm she had used on Xanthos.

Daphne’s eyes were closed from the pain, but when Taryn lifted her to rest on the wall, her eyes fluttered open, staring around the room.

"I-Is it gone?" She managed to say, suppressing the pain in her abdomen.

"Someone is fighting it outside, I think it’s the city guard. Hold still, I need to treat your wounds."

With intense focus, Taryn uncorked the potion and then using her fingers she brought the two edges of the wound together, her hands stained red with Daphne’s blood.

When the two edges were close enough, Taryn dripped a generous amount of the shimmering green liquid onto her wound.

She held it in place for a few seconds, until it closed, leaving a mark that would heal over time.

Taryn then went on to apply a little of the potion to her other injuries before tucking the bottle away.

"Thank you."

Taryn ignored her and rose to her feet before offering her a hand. "Let’s go."

Daphne glanced at the door and back to her. "Where?"

"Anywhere but here!" Taryn said, grabbing Daphne’s hand and pulling her up.

There was no telling if the guards could take on the demon and live. If they were to die... Taryn was positive that the demon would come back to finish what it started.

Taryn held her walking stick in one hand and was about to place Daphne’s hand above her shoulders when Daphne refused.

"Don’t worry..." She said, her voice low. "I can walk by myself."

She took the first couple of steps forward, her feet wobbly just before she fell face first.

There was a deafening silence.

"Taryn..."

Taryn stared at her. "Yes?"

There was a short pause, almost as if Daphne was hesitant to speak.

"I... I can’t move."

Taryn sighed and hurriedly up to her side. "You’re going to get us killed!" She cautioned before doing her best to lift her up.

And then they both walked up to the gaping hole in the wall and stared cautiously at it.

The demon was no longer in front of the stall, Taryn peaked through the window and caught a glimpse of it clashing with a blonde Ork.

When she was sure that the demon was not looking in their direction, they quickly hurried out and took the alleyway at the side of the building.

Taryn’s leg was hurting with each step, and although she was supporting herself with her stick, it was still not enough to hold back the pain.

But she gritted her teeth and continued onward, hoping to put enough distance between herself and the beast.

Galius, Tyris’ second in command gasped when he saw Tyris being held by the head.

From what he had seen so far, the creature was more than capable of crushing her head in that position.

Tyris was tough but he doubted she could withstand it. Already, he could see the muscles of the demon beginning to contract.

Tyris was composed at first but shortly after, she screamed, her pained voice was echoing through the night.

"Stop that demon!" Galius screamed, he pulled out a pair of throwing knives and tossed it at the demon’s eyes but it bent its head, defending itself with its horns.

The remaining shadows lunged at the beast, Galius not far behind them but the overwhelmingly long tail was keeping them at bay.

Already, two of the shadows had been knocked to the side, with one almost being split in half.

’If we don’t do something, Tyris will die!’

Galius painicked, ready to run in head first as well when a golden glow suddenly appeared on Tyris’ forearms.

Whoosh!

Tyris swung her arm in the direction of the demon and golden energy in the form of a vertical split flew out, clashing against the demon and ripping deep into its arm.

The demon’s grip loosened but it still firmly held onto her.

"Let go of my fucking head!" Tyris screamed, her voice muffled.

Boom!

She began waving her hand forward, unloading strike after strike in maddening desperation.

With each wave of her hand, slim golden distortions would fly from her forearms, exploding repeatedly against the demon.

Although its scaly skin was extremely tough, it was slowly getting undone by the ferocity of her blows.

The demon stumbled back in a daze as one of the strikes blasted against its head, drawing blood.

It finally let go of Taryn, giving some distance between itself and the berserker.

Meanwhile, Tryis lay on the floor, blood dripping from her face. She felt delirious and lightheaded, the pain from its vice-like grip still very much present.

It was so bad that she probably could walk straight at the moment. But she could not afford to remain down, not when the demon was still walking.

Tyris stared at the beast, her gaze sharp, she was seeing double and so she slapped her face with both hands to clear her vision.

The air around her began to simmer as her body was engulfed in a crimson red glow, her fingers pulsed with energy and her body tingled as she rose to her feet.

"Good luck ranking this!"

With one massive slash, the air rippled as a huge crimson split erupted from her fingers, charging right at the beast

Whoosh!

The demon darted to the side just as the wave of destruction tore towards it, but the attack was too fast to completely evade.

The energy cleaved right through its arm, cutting its right arm from its shoulder, leaving only a smothering lump.

The demon screeched, holding onto its bleeding arm in pain as it fell to the ground.

Meanwhile, Tyris laughed heartily, her breathing ragged as she watched the demon slowly rise to its feet, its arm gushing out waves of blood.

"You won’t last long with an injury like that." She boasted, lifting her tachi by her side.

The demon stared at her, unmoving, and then waved its hand forward.

Tyris chucked. "Are you seeing double? I’m right her—"

A bright pink glow began to emanate from her face, a glow in the shape of where the demon’s hand grabbed her.

Tyris’ body was suddenly pulled forward by an invisible force, charging right at the demon which had its claw extended—

Waiting to plunge it into her chest.

"Shit! It has a Demonic Skill?!"

It was the one thing she had not put into consideration because it was not something all demons had.

And now that oversight had led her seconds away from her doom.

Galius screamed out to Tyris, sprinting behind with his hands extended— in an attempt to grab her.

He had a panicked look on his face, one mixed with desperation and pleading hope...

Hope that he would reach her in time.

But it was too late and he was too slow.

The world seemed to slow down, Tyris could hear the panicked screams of her subordinates, she could feel the cold wind against her skin and she could taste the iron from the blood in her mouth.

"So this is what dying feels like?"

Her body inched forward and collided with the claw, the pointed tip beginning to piece into her body when—

Swoosh!!

The wind picked up, tossing dust high up into the air and Tyris felt a hand lift her by the waist and dart away.

When the dust cleared, she saw that the demon’s second arm had been ripped off, its body tossed several meters back by the force of the blow.

As for her... Tyris was being held in a princess carry by a masked man.

This was the first time she was laying eyes on him and yet she knew exactly who he was. freewebnσvel.cѳm
