Chapter 692 - Joys of the Common Man

There was a lot of treasure and several ores in the treasury. Han Wu used all three of his Divine Weapons to absorb the ores and upgrade them.

The Small Locust Blade reached rank 32, and its durability increased to 42. The Explosive Locust Blade reached rank 12, with its explosion radius expanding by 160%. The Locust Soul Orb reached rank 3, which raised its capacity to store Spiritual Energy by 115%. This also allowed the two souls to come out and fight for 11.5 minutes at a time.

This was all well and good, but the most valuable item to Han Wu inside the treasury was actually a gemstone.

[Gemstone: Tough (Common): Reduces the rate at which durability is lost. Find a blacksmith to embed this into a Divine Weapon to activate its effect.]

While only a Common gemstone, it paired well with his Small Locust Blade, and Han Wu made a mental note to ask the village chief about a nearby blacksmith later. Besides that, there was also plenty of food in the treasury, along with some of the abducted girls.

The girls were on the verge of emotional collapse after being tortured by the bandits day and night. If Han Wu’s real body were here, he could’ve helped them wipe their memories so that they could return to their normal life. Unfortunately, there was little he could do with his avatar.

He gave them some money and food for their return, but the girls did not move. They had been tarnished, and going home was no different than a death sentence to them.

In the end, Han Wu didn’t try to persuade them. This land was bound with strife, and he was only an outsider. There wasn’t much he could do to help. So, taking the rest of the money and the head of Zhang Mazi, he returned to the village.

Upon returning, he immediately plopped Zhang Mazi’s head onto the table. The chief jumped in fright. Zhang Mazi’s menacing face could terrify children into silence.

After changing into a new pair of pants and calming down a little, the chief pulled out the recommendation. It was a small wooden plate that was completely black and surprisingly heavy too. Biting his finger, the chief dripped his blood onto the plate. The instant the blood came into contact with it, the black color dissipated, turning it into a regular wooden plate.

“Good man, drip your blood onto it,” instructed the chief.

Han Wu did. A stream of information appeared once it absorbed his blood, including his name and place of living.

Astonishment filled Han Wu. The simple wooden plate had revealed his personal information with nothing more than his blood. The chief waved off his surprise, stating that he had seen officials in the city using their identification plates as shields to block attacks.

From this, Han Wu inferred that the plate was also a Divine Weapon. This meant it could have some hidden functions once upgraded. Unfortunately, it didn’t actually belong to him, so he couldn’t absorb materials to upgrade it, which was a true shame.

After accepting the plate, he briefly explained what he had found in the cave, including the food and girls. The chief’s eyes grew wide before he practically knelt to thank him.

What was the most precious commodity during times of strife? Food, of course! They needed it to survive after all.

Women were also important for children. The chief assured Han Wu that he would treat the girls kindly and wouldn’t make life difficult for them, especially given their terrible experiences with the bandits.

Relieved, Han Wu proceeded to inquire about a blacksmith. The chief patted his chest, proudly proclaiming he was a blacksmith himself.

Han Wu didn’t believe him. He doubted that the skinny chief could carry a hammer. Still, the chief insisted that he could do it. So, having little other choice, Han Wu gave the gem and Small Locust Blade to him.

After two hours, the chief returned with the upgraded Small Locust Blade, a grain-sized translucent gemstone embedded at the base of the hilt.

Han Wu checked his Divine Weapon.

[Small Locust Blade]

[Common Equipment]

[Rank: 32]

[Durability: 40/40]

[Effects: Telekinesis (God), Tough (Common)]

[Skills: Blade Pressure]

[Description: Formed from the core race, the locust. Its unassuming appearance hides unlimited potential]

Han Wu noticed that the blade had gained the Tough effect, but its durability had dropped by two. Curious, he asked the Will of the Divine Weapon Civilization about the matter.

[The first time a gemstone is equipped, there will be an adjustment, and the Divine Weapon will lose anywhere from 0 to 10 durability. (Today’s question quota: 1)]

For the chief to have reduced the durability by only two showed his tremendous skill.

“Thank you, chief. How much do I owe you?” Han Wu asked. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖

The chief shook his head and declined the money, insisting that the information about the cave was already payment enough.

The food in the cave meant the village wouldn’t starve this year. Moreover, having the girls meant welcoming new young ones in the near future. The chief smiled in satisfaction. For a minor character like him, this was the pinnacle of pride and joy.

Han Wu couldn’t help but see himself in the chief, except that he nurtured his own units instead of a village. Flashing the chief a smile of his own, Han Wu left, identification plate in hand.

The test of the Divine Weapon Civilization was more interesting than he expected.
