The Path Of A True King.-Chapter 27: Meeting Kim
Chapter 68
Elijah and Mai walked side by side, the quiet night air settling around them.
Elijah felt surprisingly calm, wondering why it was so easy to talk to Mai.
With Lisa, he always felt the need to guard himself, to keep things bottled up, but with Mai, conversation flowed effortlessly.
It was never forced, just natural.
He didn’t understand it.
Even though he had a crush on Lisa, something always seemed to push him away from her.
He couldn’t quite put his finger on what it was.
And yet, the thought of dating Mai had never even crossed his mind.
Right now, Elijah’s focus was solely on his gang, his personal growth, and strengthening his power.
He was even considering applying to Cross Rose Academy—a prestigious school where Knights and Mages honed their control over Ki and Mana.
Since Elijah didn’t have Mana, he would dedicate himself entirely to mastering Ki.
As he listened to Mai talk about how annoying her friend was, she suddenly warned him, "Don’t take her teasing too seriously, okay?"
Elijah nodded, letting her words wash over him.
They soon arrived at the school gates, where someone was waiting for them.
A girl with short black hair and striking emerald eyes stood there, engrossed in her phone.
She wore a cropped shirt that revealed her toned stomach and shorts that accentuated her long legs.
As soon as Mai called out her name, "Kim," the girl looked up.
Kim’s eyes landed on Elijah, and for a split second, she froze.
An inexplicable wave of dread washed over her—like she was staring into the face of death itself.
And yet, when Elijah smiled, that feeling vanished, replaced by something warm, almost comforting.
A strange sense of admiration stirred within her.
’Who is this guy?’ she wondered.
Mai noticed Kim’s intense gaze and asked, "Do you know him?"
Kim snapped out of it, shaking her head. "No," she replied before narrowing her eyes at Mai.
"But I hate you for never coming to see me. What kind of friend are you?"
Mai chuckled. "We did see each other."
Kim scoffed. "Yeah, because I was the one always coming to find you, not the other way around."
Mai scratched the back of her head sheepishly. "Sorry, Kim. Oh, and this is Elijah."
Kim stared at him for a moment before asking, "Your name is Elijah, and you have red eyes... Is your full name Elijah Havor?"
Elijah raised an eyebrow, slightly surprised. "Yeah, that’s me. Do we know each other?"
Kim chuckled. "No, but we have a mutual connection."
"In what way?" Mai asked curiously.
"Oh, he used to date Lisa," Kim teased, smirking. "And it looks like he’s going after you now."
Mai blushed slightly, but Elijah showed no reaction.
"Is that why you were staring at me so intensely a moment ago?" Elijah asked.
Kim shook her head. "No, that was for another reason."
Elijah could tell she wasn’t going to elaborate, so he let it go.
Instead, he extended a hand. "Well, as you already know, I’m Elijah Havor. Nice to meet you, Kim."
Kim grinned. "You too. I have a lot of questions for you." She rubbed her hands together with a mischievous glint in her eyes.
Mai frowned at her. "How about you just give me the necklace and go on with your day?"
"Nope," Kim said with a chuckle. "I want to be the third wheel on this little date of yours."
Mai was about to protest, but Elijah spoke first. "You have an amazing vibe—just saying whatever comes to your mind. I think it’s going to be fun having you around."
Kim blushed slightly. "Thanks. I thought you were the quiet type, at least from what Lisa said."
Elijah shrugged. "Why care what people say about me? If you wanted to know me, you should’ve come and talked to me yourself."
The three of them started walking, and Kim responded,
"I wanted to, but Lisa didn’t want any girl she knew around you.
Just mentioning you would make her furious.
She was obsessed with you, so I really wonder why you ended things with her."
Elijah looked at her with a knowing expression. "Why do I feel like you already know the answer?"
Kim just chuckled.
Mai, however, suddenly cut in with a sharp question, "Did you sleep with Lisa?" 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
Her eyes held curiosity, but there was something else hidden beneath it.
Kim smirked and answered before Elijah could. "Why do you think I’m so curious about him?"
Mai’s expression darkened.
Annoyance flickered across her face as she scoffed, "I’m really disappointed in you, Elijah.
Lisa is a slut—she sleeps around with at least five guys at school, and probably even more outside."
Elijah studied her for a moment, thinking, ’Why does she care so much?’
Then it hit him. ’Is she really disappointed... or does she have feelings for me?’
Shaking off the thought, he said calmly, "I didn’t sleep with Lisa."
Mai frowned. "Then why does Kim know so much about you from her?"
Elijah was about to explain, but Kim beat him to it. "Oh, our little Elijah here didn’t have the balls to do it. But Lisa told me something hilarious."
Mai raised an eyebrow. "What’s that?"
Kim grinned. "He told her that he only wants to sleep with the person he marries."
Mai looked at her, confused. "And what’s so funny about that? You say the same thing all the time."
Kim froze before glaring at Mai. "Why do you have to ruin my fun?"
Mai smirked. "Because it’s not funny. Stop testing everyone’s patience."
Kim pouted. "But it’s fun."
Elijah just chuckled. "Hahaha, well, I don’t mind."
Kim brightened up and suddenly clapped her hands. "Alright, let’s play a game."
Both Elijah and Mai looked at her in confusion. "What game?" they asked in unison.
Kim grinned. "Since I’m the third wheel, follow me."
Mai sighed. "I’m sorry if she’s annoying you."
Elijah shook his head. "It’s the opposite. She’s actually pretty cute, just like you."
Both girls blushed.
Kim quickly snapped back, "Where’s the mysterious, brooding guy Lisa told me about? I don’t like this straightforward version of you."
Elijah blinked in confusion. "Did I say something wrong?"
