The Mind-Reading Mate: Why Is the Lycan King So Obsessed With Me?!-Chapter 503: Regret for Being Caught
Primrose had no idea what Edmund had done to the Duke of Obsidia, but the moment Garrick saw them approaching his cell, he quickly scrambled backward.
He pressed himself into the corner, arms wrapped tightly around his legs like a frightened animal.
He had only been locked up for a few days, yet he already looked like a man who had been forgotten for months.
His hair was tangled and unwashed. His face had lost its color, and heavy shadows hung beneath his eyes. The proud, arrogant duke Primrose remembered was nowhere to be seen.
Garrick wasn’t the only one shaken. His subordinates also retreated at the sight of Edmund. None of them dared meet his gaze. Whatever her husband had done, it had shattered whatever loyalty they once had.
"Your Grace... you’re looking wonderful today," Primrose said lightly, her voice bright with mock sweetness. Everyone in the dungeon knew it was pure sarcasm. "It seems you’ve finally learned where you stand."
The Duke shivered when he accidentally met Edmund’s eyes, who was standing right behind Primrose. He immediately looked down, stammering, "W-what d-do you want?" He added in a more trembling voice, "I... I-I have told you everything about the children’s storage place."
Storage place.
Primrose frowned so deeply that the lines on her forehead became clearly visible. After all, using words like "storage place" when referring to living beings was truly strange.
Worse than that, even after being tortured by Edmund, the Duke did not have the slightest sense of guilt toward his victims.
[This is all because of those fucking children!! Those little bastards are truly bad luck!!]
[If I could get out of this place and meet them, I would whip them a hundred times!]
Primrose gritted her teeth and clenched her hands into fists. She truly could not understand how someone could be so rotten.
"We’re here to ask you something else," Edmund finally spoke. He gently pulled Primrose slightly behind him, so that most of her body was shielded.
Meanwhile, his hand softly stroked his wife’s hand, his eyes fixed on the Duke of Obsidia with an extremely sharp gaze. He showed absolutely no intention of granting mercy to that bastard.
"W-What is it?" Garrick asked.
Edmund’s voice echoed through the dungeon as he said, ""I don’t have the patience for games, so answer my question wisely, or I will cut out your tongue and gouge your eyes every time you refuse to respond. Do you understand?" 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
Garrick’s face instantly turned as pale as snow. His entire body trembled. "U-Understood."
Primrose didn’t flinch at Edmund’s harsh words, because before they entered the dungeon, he had already told her that he would use harsh words with Garrick.
Actually, he did not want Primrose to enter the dungeon, but she insisted because she wanted to see Garrick’s current condition, because the last time she saw him, he was full of shit.
Well, his mind was still filled with trash, but at least, he had become more obedient on the outside. And Primrose was truly delighted to witness that drastic change.
"Tell me, where is King Averon hiding the children in his residence?" Edmund asked with a piercing stare. "Is he hiding them in the palace? Or somewhere else?"
Garrick frowned. "W-Why are you asking that? His Majesty the King has no connection whatsoever to this matter."
[I have to protect King Averon’s reputation.] Garrick’s thoughts were desperate. [He’s my only chance. The only one who might get me out of here... or save me from punishment if they release me.]
Primrose clicked her tongue softly. Even now, Garrick still tried to shield Averon. Even now, he clung to a king who was nothing but filth.
Edmund noticed the change in her expression. Without hesitation, he leaned closer and bent slightly. "What’s wrong?" he asked in a low voice.
Primrose brought her lips near Edmund’s ear and covered it with her hand before whispering, "He is trying to cover up Averon’s crime. Not only that, he also wants to take out his anger on the children once he gets out of here."
Edmund’s eyes darkened the moment he heard that. Just like Primrose, he couldn’t believe that someone could feel no guilt for the crimes he had committed, even after being punished.
Instead of guilt, Garrick seemed to feel regret. No, not regret for hurting those children.
Regret for getting caught.
If fate had given him more time, the Duke of Obsidia would have continued crushing anyone beneath his power.
He could not be saved, and Primrose had already decided she would not let him walk free so easily.
But before she could decide the end of his life, she needed answers from him first.
"Don’t lie to me, Garrick," Edmund said coldly.
He didn’t even bother using an honorific when addressing the despicable duke. Then he added a deliberate falsehood, "The Count is dead, and several of his subordinates have confessed that King Averon was involved in this crime."
Garrick’s eyes widened. [What?! The Count is dead?! How could he die so easily?!]
[Useless idiot... This is exactly why I told His Majesty not to trust someone so stupid with important work!]
Oh? If the Duke of Obsidia had truly said something like that to Averon, didn’t that mean they were close?
"Husband, we’re only wasting our time if we interrogate him like this," Primrose stated. She turned to Edmund and asked, "Which do you prefer? Your way or my way?"
[W-what is she talking about?!]
Garrick’s face gradually turned pale as he sensed that the two of them were planning something terrible for him.
Edmund fell silent for a moment as he considered it. "You’ll have to erase their memories soon anyway, so we’ll do it my way," he said calmly. Then he added, "You’ve seen his condition now. Why don’t you wait outside for me?"
Primrose nodded with a sincere smile. "Alright. I’ll wait for you outside with Sir Callen."
Before stepping out, she briefly turned her head toward Garrick. "You would have been lucky if we chose my way," she said coldly. A faint, humorless smile adorned her lips. "But I don’t think you’re that lucky."
