The Max Level Hero Has Returned!-Chapter 1056
Chapter 1056
“I know that no matter what I say, I won’t be forgiven.”
“It’s alright.”
Staring at Persephone, who stood with both hands neatly clasped in front of her, a knight continued with an emotionless face, “Please, never forgive us.”
“If sacrificing myself can save her and the entire world, I won’t refuse,” she replied with conviction.
“We’ll tell her that we were the ones who forced you into this place. We’ve already betrayed those we once shared a table with, for the sake of our beliefs. Adding one more sin won’t change anything.”
Seeing Persephone remained silent, he gently pushed her back forward. “Once again, don’t ever forgive us.”
With many knights behind her, she stepped into the dark world made of rifts. It was time to return to the bottomless and endless abyss that was Hell.
Once she threw herself into the beast lair, her memories came to a temporary end, lasting for what both felt like eternity and a single instant before being awoken.
* * *
Davey saw parts of Kasato’s body through the twisted armor. On the surface, it looked like Kasato, but it was carrying the thoughts of countless knights within it. And not just any knights—completely deranged ones.
Despite Persephone’s attempt to stop Daphne, she kept pressing down on it with the blunt end of Longinus. “Whatever the story is, that’s none of my business.”
Boom!!
“What matters is that these guys are clearly insane right now.”
Persephone had no response.
“Besides, aren’t they the traitors who threw you into this place?”
Persephone barely moved her lips, softly muttering, “That’s...”
“So there’s nothing more to say.”
When Daphne moved to finish it off, Persephone reached out to stop her.
“Wait! They had no choice!”
“Don’t care.”
Just as Daphne was about to strike, the surrounding space suddenly distorted, rippling like the surface of water.
“What the hell is this?”
From within the waves, dozens of black tendril hands burst out and began grabbing at Davey and Daphne’s legs, dragging them down.
[The Queen... must... only be her!]
Following that dying scream, the surrounding space began to collapse. They had been on the boundary between Hell and middle earth. Once it broke apart, everything within was bound to fall toward whichever side was closer.
“Davey! Keep an eye on that thing.”
Crack, crack, crack!!
An enormous creature of a size beyond imagination slowly began to stir from the bottom of the abyss. The ground began to split open, and a massive eye started to emerge from between the cracks, revealing itself. It was a twisted essence born from the endless abyss of Hell. The monsters were a problem, yes, but once they reached a certain size they became an unmitigated disaster.
“They used to be knights sworn to protect humanity,” Persephone informed them.
“Daphne.”
Davey, sensing she was about to snap, gave a nod and shifted his gaze toward Persephone.
“Shall I give you old friends some time to spend together?”
Daphne glared at him silently before nodding.
After that, he shook the entire boundary zone and hurled Daphne and the others toward middle earth. “Transferring the authority of the Queen is going to take some time, so guard her well.”
Illyna nodded in response before innocently asking, “Need my help with this?”
Davey gave a small smile. “No.”
“Then how about if you come back safe, I’ll give you a reward.” She boldly kissed him and stepped back with a shy smile.
Eventually, all the distractions disappeared.
The black eye that had been emerging from the crack in the ground, technically speaking, had no physical form. Davey could tell it was a massive spiritual entity that had accumulated power.
“Compared to the Abyss, this much really is no big deal.”
It lacked the depth of corruption or interference of the Abyss, but in many ways, it still felt eerily similar to the Abyss that Hercules had completely destroyed. Realizing this, he wondered if perhaps Hell was where Thanatos had gotten inspiration for building the Abyss.
Just as Davey was about to mentally connect with the thing at the bottom of the abyss to eliminate the massive spiritual entity, Kasato—no, the body of the knights—suddenly began to flicker with a dark purple light.
“Well, looks like it’s coming out on its own.”
Not long after, the massive spiritual entity that had been watching Davey from beneath began to scatter into particles of violet light, those particles slowly seeping into the knight’s body. Arms, legs, head, torso, it was like all the power that had been gathered until then was condensing into one singular form. The twisted, burning armor covering the corrupted knight began to transform, changing into a clean, practical, and stylish suit of armor resembling the protector of a royal order. Specifically, that of the Last Wisp Order.
Tssshhh.
It finally stood up, glowing violet eyes flashing beneath its helm. It dropped its dagger and pointed its longsword at Davey. At the same time, dark purple sparks gathered around the blade, reinforcing it until the thin longsword had expanded into a massive greatsword. He simply stood there in silence, sword drawn at Davey.
Davey pulled out Red Ribbon and Blue Ribbon, holding them lightly at his side. “What’s your name?”
He could instinctively tell that the entity currently in control was different from all the others. Not in terms of power, but in the clean, ordered presence it gave off compared to the other knights’ messy and unrefined obsession.
“Come to think of it, there was a single traitor no one could quite understand,” Davey muttered.
Its spark-covered sword still aimed at him, the knight finally spoke for the first time, “I no longer have a name. I’m simply a man who lost his mind while trying to protect what matters most.”
Unlike the others, he was aware of his own state.
Realizing that there was no point in further conversation, Davey gripped his blades and nodded. “No need to waste time arguing. Come on, then. Let’s get this over with.”
The knight pulled its sword in close. Then, lowering the tip, it charged at an overwhelming speed. At first its movements appeared Master-Level, but it quickly became clear that its power surpassed that.
[Transcendental Longsword]
[Splitting the Mountains]
Clang!!
Davey spun Blue Ribbon and slammed it against the enemy’s sword as it came crashing down. The overwhelming weight packed into a single strike, combined with Blue Ribbon’s power to sever non-physical laws, smashed into the knight’s spark-enhanced longsword.
Crackle! Crackle!!!
It was not only strong physically, but also demonstrated a deep understanding of swordsmanship.
“So, you use a longsword, huh?” As far as Davey knew, no one had wielded Caldeiras since Ares.
Given as such, he had no clue where the knight would’ve come from. Curiosity flickered through his mind, but the knight didn’t seem interested in giving him time to figure it out. With terrifying agility, it launched another wave of attacks.
Clang! Clang!!
“Smart, too. It’s resisting the authority of Blue Ribbon.”
The knight clearly understood what Red and Blue Ribbons were capable of.
When Davey swung Red Ribbon, which severed physical laws, the knight responded by triggering sparks to reinforce his longsword and counter. When Davey swung Blue Ribbon, it nullified the sparks and countered again. Calling it just an ordinary knight would be an insult—its skill was incredible.
Clang! Clang!! Clang!!!
Its technique was incredibly grounded. While it felt very different from the style of Sword God Ares, it was definitely a style of swordsmanship that revolved around weight.
“Doesn’t seem like he trained it directly using Caldeiras, though.”
Boom!!
Davey fought without using any other powers, clashing against the knight in pure swordsmanship.
It wasn’t out of respect for him or a tactical gesture. Rather, he was simply curious about what was going on with the knight in front of him. Even as he fought, Davey continued analyzing.
‘Let’s try mixing in a feint.’ Gripping Blue Ribbon in reverse, Davey lightly pushed off the ground and lunged.
Boom!!!
He then swiftly swung his sword, and the knight activated sparks to block, just as he expected.
Clang!!
Whenever only one blade came in, the knight countered with a matching response. Then, using the sheer weight of its sword, it would knock Davey back. But no matter how skilled it was with blades, it still fell short compared to Sword God Ares.
Clang! Clang!! Clang!!!
[Demonic Sword]
In the middle of power swings, Davey shifted forms into the Demonic Sword—specialized in redirecting and slipping past blows. Caught off guard, the knight’s posture crumbled, and that opening was all Davey needed. He stabbed Blue Ribbon straight towards it. Her enhanced authority—severing force within an area—didn’t work on it. Still, nothing was stopping Davey from physically stabbing it.
Bzzt! Clang!!
The sparks surrounding the knight’s sword briefly burned out. Davey pierced Blue Ribbon through its shoulder, then withdrew. The knight staggered back, trying to recover, but Davey had already swung Red Ribbon, slashing in from behind and slicing off his arm.
Saying nothing, it stared down at its severed limb, violet light flickering in its eyes. Davey couldn’t figure out what it was thinking, but then the knight spoke. “Longsword. Ultimate Form.”
Davey’s eyes lit up at his muttering.
Ultimate Form. Though it hadn’t been formally taught the technique, it had created its own form of swordsmanship that mirrored the spirit and concept of a longsword. Davey became certain that the knight was originally a descendant of Sword God Ares. Though Perserque was the only known child of Ares, other descendants of Pallen existed. If it came from another of Ares’s children, it made sense.
“You’re using it all wrong, by the way,” Davey said with a grin.
He then combined Blue Ribbon and Red Ribbon, fusing them into Super Ribbon before pouring in every ounce of weightful impact the knight had used on him to that point.
“Take back every bit of weight you tried to throw at me.”
[Transcendental Longsword Ultimate Form]
[No-Named King]
Despite it being invisible, the knight instinctively felt the sheer weight radiating from his blade.
Its violet eyes tremble again. Despite its madness, however, it still maintained a desperate longing for longswords. “Thank you.”
Davey lowered his stance and took a step forward. “I’m guessing you’re not looking for something like salvation or forgiveness.”
“That’s right.”
“Then farewell.”
With that, the knight’s makeshift Longsword Ultimate Form collided head-on with the complete Sword God’s swordsmanship, considered the pinnacle swordsmanship of longswords.
Clang!!
The resulting shockwave shattered the already-collapsing boundary between the two worlds. The landscape around them began to warp and fall apart.
Crash!!
Unable to endure Super Ribbon’s impact, the knight’s sword shattered into glowing sparks. The shrapnel ripped through its solid armor before slicing through its body, splitting it in two and causing the surroundings to collapse.
When the knight slowly crumbled, Davey turned his head in silence. The lingering thoughts of the traitors that had merged with the knight began to dissipate. The death of Kasato, who had become the vessel, was inevitable from the start.
With the final obstacle removed, Davey felt a massive wave of energy, likely from Persephone having escaped to middle earth and passed the authority of the Monster Queen to the gray creature. Even though the boundary hadn’t fully broken yet, Davey figured the aftershock was so intense that every high-tier individual on the continent likely felt it.
Watching the knight crumble, he slowly reached out a hand toward it. The moment his fingers touched the helm, a flood of memories rushed in through his lingering thoughts.
The first thing Davey saw was Persephone. In front of her was a knight, kneeling on one knee.
- If you won’t even listen when I say don’t go... then I will protect you.
- Arta...
- I have no justification to oppose them. I wasn’t given the order. But if I must throw you into that place... then I shall gladly cast myself into Hell as well.
- You could become a traitor in history! I might be remembered as a martyr, but you...
- Honor is precious to a knight, but if that honor means breaking my vow to you, I’ll gladly wear the mark of a traitor.
The handsome young man quietly planted his sword in front of Persephone.
- I, Arta von Pallan, offer my final loyalty to you.
Even without seeing his face, Davey knew that it was the knight he had just cut down—the one known as the No-Named King.
He figured von was the original family name of the Sword God, just like before Perserque’s name had changed.
