Chapter 154: 100,000 strong

Aiden was right about one thing: it didn’t take them long to delegate. On the second day, Ember received the notification. This time, there were eight of them. Ivan insisted that Cassia should come because he was the odd one out last time.

She could also see that several people appeared interested in tagging along. They didn’t ask, so Ember didn’t give them a chance to go. They arrived at the base and were escorted in. They were led to the conference room.

Inside, there were four people. The colonel and general they had previously met, plus two new faces.

"Is everyone ready?" Aiden asked. Seeing these two people, he didn’t need to ask. He knew there were some conflicts. He didn’t care what politics they had. All he needed to know was who was coming and who wasn’t.

Colonel Grant cleared his throat and introduced the two people.

"These two are General Whitmore and Colonel Clark. They would like to speak with you briefly before we leave."

"General, Colonel," Ember and Aiden greeted them.

They sat, relaxed in the seat and waited for them to speak. Ember rested her head on Aiden’s shoulder. He played with her fingers. They watched Colonel Grant and General Thorpe signal the other general and colonel.

No matter how much they tried to signal, they didn’t move.

It was only when Ember got impatient that she spoke.

"You won’t be able to get in. Even if you strike it with a missile. And on the off chance you do get in, you won’t be able to get past the gas, and if the gas doesn’t get you, all you’ll see is an empty building."

General Whitemore and Colonel Clark, who thought they were being sneaky, blushed. They hadn’t expected the two to know they had people attempting to breach the office. They smiled sheepishly when they saw the look on Thorpe and Grant’s faces.

Thorpe and Grant shook their heads. They had told them before that this base is technologically superior to theirs. All they know is that they were standing outside the office one minute and then they were in their base the next. Even the devices they placed have been quietly removed. They had no idea how they got there.

Now, seeing the two actually tried to get in on the eve of leaving the godforsaken place, Thorpe and Grant had the urge to hit someone, namely Whitmore and Clark.

"So, can we leave now? You need to tell me how many people will be coming. I assume many of them can’t stand the sun. Am I correct?" Ember asked lazily.

"Yes. And we have a few who were badly burned. We know you have excellent equipment, so we wanted to ask if it was possible to heal them." General Thorpe asked.

Ember and Aiden agreed. They didn’t need people who were disabled. They needed able-bodied people. Right now, even if they had lost a limb, the med bay can fix them up.

"Take us to see them," Aiden said, getting up. "There are a few things we need to do before getting to our destination."

They brought Ember and Aiden to a large square. There, they saw people sweltering under the sun. Even those in the shade were sweating. It reminded them again just how hot the place had become. But according to the CE, things were beginning to cool down.

Ember and Aiden wouldn’t tell them that, of course. It was in their best interest to get new blood into the base. Additionally, they didn’t want Valentina and the others to get the upper hand.

Regardless, these people would soon be in their base. There was nothing they could do to reverse the process.

Standing before the people in the military base, they couldn’t help but pause. They looked towards the generals and colonels.

Ember couldn’t help whispering, "Did you tell them about the base? Are all the people here planning to go?"

"We told them," replied Colonel Grant. "We also told them that it was voluntary."

"So...the nuns plan to lose their virginity at some point?" She looked at the leaders of the army. "You do know that when we told you the base uses consensual sex, we still meant that people would have to have sex, right? Sex literally keeps the lights on."

The four people didn’t meet Ember’s eyes. They knew they didn’t give the complete truth about the base.

Ember’s gaze shifted to them. The group of people in their habits. Even now, as they sweat through them, they continued to wear them. Ember didn’t know how she felt about it. They had planned to do a few sneaky things, and now, they aren’t sure if they can.

Aiden wrapped her in his arms. "It’s fine. We’ll explain it to them again. If they still want to go, then they need to understand exactly what they need to do."

And explain they did. When Aiden met them, the first thing he did was to fully explain the kind of place they would be living in. He especially stared at the nuns to get the point across.

If they still decided the base was the place for them, he wouldn’t object.

Finally, he asked if everyone was still willing to go.

Getting an affirmative answer, Ember gave everyone a fellowship contract. She explained the use of the contract and told them that anyone who didn’t sign couldn’t enter the base.

She gave them time to read and understand. One by one, those who were willing to sign signed. She asked those who did to come out with her. They took them out in groups. Each group was promptly taken into the space.

After everyone was added, they headed to the office, both to pick up the stragglers and finally to go home.

They had asked that everyone stay in their rooms until they come back. It was the safest place for them when the base began to expand. The moment they signed the contract, the base itself expanded according to the amount it needed to the next level.

They were able to take more than 100,000 people. And even then, there were still a number of them remaining who wished to stay.
