Chapter 74: Chapter 12: I Investigate Myself?

This correction undoubtedly drew Director Caroline’s cold gaze.

"You’re just a Level Two [Fighting Master]."

She paused.

"Although, it’s possible the potential of a [Fighting Master] has been underestimated by the scholars who evaluate Sequences."

"But you’re ultimately too young, and your Level isn’t high enough."

"Give me a reason to keep you here."

"Otherwise... the door is right behind you."

Zorn, however, narrowed his eyes, sizing up the Level Four "Soul Feeder" director.

’Heh... still trying to move the World with her own methods, as always.’

After a moment of thought, Zorn slowly began to speak.

"While the [Fighting Master] Sequence doesn’t excel at Spiritual probing, it still possesses a sense of smell and Perception beyond that of an ordinary person."

"Your aura is cold and dry, and your body temperature is at least three or four degrees lower than a normal person’s."

"You don’t like the Sun, but to maintain a suitable work environment, you still chose to open the curtains and let the sunlight in."

"Adding in a few other subtle traces, I can determine that you must be a [Soul Feeder], correct?"

The previously calm [Soul Feeder], Caroline, felt her pupils constrict. Her intensely oppressive gaze fell coldly on Zorn, and deep within her eyes, an Evil Spirit seemed to be roaring.

"Continue..."

She suppressed the faint emotional turmoil within her and said calmly.

Immediately after, Zorn dropped a bombshell that shook the director to her core.

"Your condition might seem like the price you pay for controlling an Evil Spirit."

"But in reality, it’s that damn Evil Spirit inside you resisting your enslavement."

"For a disobedient Evil Spirit like that, you just need to use the right method and give it a harsh lesson!"

In an instant, Director Caroline’s body trembled slightly.

She could even feel the Evil Spirit she was raising within her stir restlessly.

’Damn it!’

’This [Fighting Master]... he’s right!’

She had looked up a lot of Extraordinary data about [Soul Feeders] and Evil Spirits.

Much of the information indicated that an Evil Spirit’s resistance was incredibly difficult to resolve—a price that Soul Feeders had to bear.

But the Fighting Master before her was saying it could be resolved.

’And this young [Fighting Master] actually knows so much secret Extraordinary Knowledge.’

’Is he a member of one of those secret knowledge-based sects?’

For a moment, a multitude of complex thoughts flooded her mind.

She took a deep breath and looked again at the [Fighting Master] before her, who was only 16... no... almost 17 years old.

"How exactly do I solve it?"

She asked tentatively.

"First, you need to construct a sufficiently powerful ritual environment—a reinforced curtain barrier—so the Evil Spirit can’t escape."

"Then, release the Evil Spirit and douse its spine with a Spiritual fluid infused with your blood."

"You must make it absorb the fluid. If it doesn’t, then beat it senseless."

This peculiar procedure, both simple and crude yet containing a hint of mysterious, high-level technique, was an eye-opener for Caroline.

"What if I actually kill the Evil Spirit?"

She frowned slightly.

"An Evil Spirit that would rather die than submit has no reason to live. Killing it will only benefit you; there’s no downside,"

Zorn said in a calm voice.

"If you do kill the Evil Spirit, you’ll be severely weakened, but it won’t kill you."

"You can just enslave and raise a new one."

"If you can’t even beat a few Evil Spirits to death during the [Soul Feeder] stage, then by the time you advance to [Soul Shepherd] and those Evil Spirits are riding on your head, licking your flesh and soul, it will be too late for regrets."

As Caroline was still digesting the crude method Zorn had described,

Zorn slowly spoke again.

"Using the method I just described, most Evil Spirits will submit."

"It’s fast-acting and relatively simple."

"But the drawback is that the Evil Spirit will still act up, and it’s not very effective against extremely stubborn ones."

"I..."

Zorn paused, smiling faintly like a Demon.

"...have a more advanced method."

’A more advanced method!’

Caroline couldn’t help but feel her eyes light up.

She had already become somewhat interested in this 16... no, 17-year-old [Fighting Master].

"[Sequence]" is not equivalent to "[Extraordinary Knowledge]."

A [Fighting Master] could also possess a wealth of Extraordinary Knowledge.

At the very least, the Extraordinary Knowledge displayed by this young [Fighting Master] completely crushed that of the previous "Mr. Demon" and "Miss Ranger."

In fact, this Fighting Master’s style was even more demonic than that of "Mr. Demon."

She liked collaborating with such interesting individuals.

They were unbound by worldly conventions, preferring to follow their own methods and paths.

"So what’s the better method?"

Caroline asked.

Zorn could faintly sense the animosity from that Level Four Evil Spirit.

He slowly began to speak.

"Use a ritual to channel Hell Soul Fire. Evil Spirits fear this the most. A strong fire can easily burn them to death, so you must simmer it slowly over a low flame."

"Don’t listen to the Evil Spirit’s wails and pleas."

"Just simmer it slowly for two hours every day."

"Do this for a couple of weeks, and for the next year, your Evil Spirit will be exceedingly docile."

"This method still works for the Middle Rank Level [Soul Shepherd] Sequence."

"When dealing with Evil Spirits, fear is the best chain."

"For example, your current Evil Spirit is quite restless. It’s... about to break out."

"Clearly, it has never tasted fear."

Caroline’s expression turned a little grim.

Just as Zorn had said.

At that moment, her Evil Spirit was indeed extremely restless.

This had been causing her a great deal of trouble.

She thoroughly suppressed the Evil Spirit within her body.

Only then did Caroline look back at Zorn, her face showing a hint of apology.

"My apologies, Mr. Zorn. You’ve had to witness my Evil Spirit’s misbehavior."

Zorn waved his hand dismissively.

The tides of steam surged, and mysterious, bizarre Extraordinary Powers were constantly reviving and being born.

There was a lot of information about various Extraordinary career paths that Transcendents themselves hadn’t figured out, let alone the finer details.

But the group known as [Players] had long since figured all of this out.

"As a professional consultant, handling these minor issues is no problem,"

Zorn said modestly.

’Being able to solve problems for [Soul Feeders] and [Soul Shepherds]... is just a minor issue to him?’

Caroline’s heart trembled slightly.

Her previous attitude of looking down on him for being a Level 2 [Fighting Master] completely changed at this moment.

This was a respectable [Fighting Master], rich in Extraordinary Knowledge.

"Could I have a piece of paper and a pen?"

After getting the pen and blank paper, Zorn paused and then looked at Director Caroline.

"Have you studied the Saint Maya Ancient Language?"

"I’ve only learned a few words."

"In that case, I’ll write the ritual incantations in the modern common tongue. The effect will just be a bit weaker."

Soon, Zorn finished writing out two sets of ritual incantations: the low-end "Beating Evil Spirit" and the high-end "Fire-roasted Evil Spirit." Zorn also made special notes on some key points.

"Memorize this, then burn it."

Zorn said seriously as he handed over the paper filled with text.

"Otherwise, it could attract some trouble."

’Attract some trouble?’

Caroline frowned slightly. She knew what Zorn meant.

Rituals that channeled the power of the mystical side always attracted certain things.

"Understood!"

She carefully put the paper away.

After inviting Zorn to the sofa in the lounge area,

Caroline finally brought up the real reason she had invited Zorn over today.

"Mr. Zorn, as for your salary as a Career Consultant, I will raise it to the highest bracket."

"Although this meager salary may be insignificant to you, it still represents the sincerity of our North Ring Street Police Station."

"The main reason I invited you here this time is..."

Here, Caroline paused.

"...to investigate the terrifying [Evil Spirit Calamity]."

Hearing this, Zorn’s thoughts stirred, but his expression remained calm and natural.

Through the window, he could see that the cleared sky was a vast expanse of blue.

But in the sky to the southwest, a viscous, dreary, and oppressive dark cloud of Death lingered. It refused to dissipate, shrouding the area where the Ogrande City Fog Zone and the Old Town District met.

The [Evil Spirit Calamity] had still not been resolved.

It was continuously helping Zorn, deepening and broadening his "Immortal Calamity Sacred Mark."

Such a massive anchor was also making Zorn increasingly safe.

’Helping the authorities investigate myself... that sounds like a crime!’

’My future’s looking more and more like a prison sentence!’

Director Caroline’s request was not outside of Zorn’s expectations.

Back when he was a [Player], Zorn had done things far more absurd than this, and many of them at that.

Assisting the official system in investigating himself was just business as usual!

Zorn’s purpose in coming here today was to initiate an even more high-level operation.

After a moment of thought, Zorn finally asked.

"Is it to find the powerful Evil Spirit Creature that initiated the [Evil Spirit Calamity]? Or is it to investigate the situation of the [Evil Spirit Calamity] and find a way to end it?"

"Ending the Evil Spirit Calamity isn’t a job for us official Transcendents of Ogrande City. The Church—they’re the ones working on that,"

Director Caroline responded.

"Our objective is to find the mastermind behind the [Evil Spirit Calamity], as well as the members of this Evil God Organization."

"This organization and that terrifying Evil Spirit must be eliminated. Otherwise... if they initiate an even larger-scale [Evil Spirit Calamity], the entire Ogrande City will suffer a terrible disaster."

After a moment of serious thought, Zorn slowly began to speak.

"As far as I know, many powerful Evil Spirit Creatures have already appeared in Ogrande City."

"That terrifying Rat King deep underground is an Evil Spirit Creature, and the one who initiated this terrifying [Evil Spirit Calamity] is, without a doubt, a top-tier, horrifying Evil Spirit."

"I’ll need to see enough data and information to be able to make a judgment."

"No problem!"

Caroline replied crisply.

"Moreover, I’ve also prepared a quiet temporary office for you."

The purpose of bringing these consultants in this time was to find that terrifying Evil Spirit Creature as quickly as possible.

They had already prepared information regarding the Evil God Organization and other related matters.

Soon, in a clean, tidy, sun-facing office, Zorn received copies of numerous documents.

Looking at so much important, classified information, Zorn took a deep breath and then slowly exhaled.

Although this was only the declassified portion of the intelligence, with the more critical classified information being inaccessible to Zorn, he could still sort through his thoughts and find key clues by combining it with his own understanding of the trajectory and context of Ogrande City.

He scanned through the intelligence very quickly.

As he delved deeper into the documents, information about several other Evil God Organizations, as well as some "Evil Spirit Creatures," was quickly unearthed by Zorn.

He even found information about the "Evil Spirit Sequence" secretly being cultivated by the Church.

’As expected, Ogrande City is already very dissatisfied with the Church.’

’They even dared to investigate the Church’s Evil Spirit Sequence.’
