Chapter 529: Chapter 529: Jean, I Will Wait for You

"Miss Nash, what do you think about Mr. Quinn canceling the engagement?"

Jean Nash was also surrounded by reporters because the news of the canceled engagement had been spread, and the reporters had rushed to block the entrance to Grandeur.

Jean Nash displayed a gracious and poised smile, reaching out to link arms with Hugo Quinn.

"Actually, I was the one who canceled the wedding because Marcus hasn’t fully recovered yet. Recently, he’s been juggling the engagement preparations and hospital visits, and he’s lost quite a bit of weight. I didn’t want to exhaust him like this. As he said, once we’ve made all the arrangements, we’ll naturally provide an answer to the public."

Seeing they couldn’t get more from her and with the added interference from bodyguards, the reporters fell silent.

Jean Nash and Hugo Quinn snuggled closely as they entered Grandeur’s building.

Eleanor Hollis watched their figures from behind, instinctively picking up the remote to turn off the television.

It seemed that no matter where she went, she could never escape the words Hugo Quinn.

Once Jean Nash and Hugo Quinn entered the building, they slowly released each other’s hands.

"Hugo Quinn, I have some errands this afternoon, you go ahead upstairs. I need to visit a friend at the hospital."

Hugo Quinn’s steps paused, knowing she was headed to see Shawn Yates, who had already been ransomed with the twenty billion.

"Alright."

He agreed straightforwardly as Jean Nash glanced around before exiting Grandeur through the back door.

Shawn Yates had remained unconscious, not waking up until now. The doctors had found a few broken ribs upon examination.

Jean Nash was very concerned about his condition and had been visiting him at the hospital frequently.

Shawn Yates didn’t have many friends domestically; he’d been orbiting around her for years, becoming increasingly estranged from his original circle.

If she didn’t visit him, likely no one else would remember him.

Jean Nash sat by the bedside, pondering whether she had ever truly loved Shawn Yates.

During their years of marriage, she had been pampered like a princess, never even having to wash vegetables, truly living with fingers untouched by mundane chores.

Whenever she was dissatisfied, she’d vent on Shawn Yates, feeling he always tolerated everything unconditionally.

She became accustomed to having this man by her side, and showing her playful side to him.

Knowing he wasn’t the one who had saved her back then caused some inner conflict, but seeing Hugo Quinn’s photo had struck her deeply.

Hugo Quinn was the most handsome man she’d ever seen, and she felt like she should make an effort, though unsure how to reach his side.

Should she make him fall in love with her? She wasn’t all that vain; like Shawn Yates said, she was near rationally convinced that Hugo Quinn was meant to be with her, like they were destined for each other with their childhood connection.

Her hand moved slightly, reaching out to grasp Shawn Yates’s hand.

Despite his forehead consistently sweating, seemingly in significant pain, his murmuring of "Jean, Jean" inexplicably invoked a bittersweet feeling.

He slowly opened his eyes, perhaps surprised to find himself in the hospital, sensing someone holding his hand, intending to turn his head only to find the hand had been withdrawn indifferently.

"Jean, you..."

Thinking about something, a hint of joy flashed in his heart, making his breath less smooth.

Had she truly spent twenty billion to rescue him back? In her heart, he was that important after all.

Jean Nash had layers of thoughts initially, but upon seeing him awake, her expression immediately turned cold.

"Did you see the faces of those who captured you?"

Her team had searched for so long, yet the culprits had managed to escape.

The face of Lan Yancy arose in Shawn Yates’s mind, the man who had brazenly shown himself to him.

"I’m helping you. Don’t you want to know if you’re truly in Jean Nash’s heart? Just cooperate, and eventually, you’ll find out."

Recalling Lan Yancy’s words, Shawn Yates’s mouth curved slightly.

"I didn’t see, they were all masked, and apart from beating me, they spoke no words."

He spoke pitifully, gripping Jean Nash’s hand tightly.

"Jean, look at my face; it’s beaten to a pulp. Those people were genuinely ruthless. I even heard they wanted twenty billion. Jean, did you really use twenty billion to ransom me?"

His eyes gleamed despite the comical appearance caused by his injuries. Jean Nash undeniably enjoyed such expressions.

But her face remained unmoved.

"It’s something I owed you, consider it a return gift for taking care of me for three years. After this, we really have no connection. Once you’re discharged, go abroad quickly. I’m unsure if they’ll come after you again, so it’s better to be cautious. Next time, if they demand such an amount, I won’t be able to assist."

As Shawn Yates held Jean Nash’s hand, he realized her hand was just like before, small and fair.

Jean Nash didn’t immediately pull her hand back, her heart now questioning whether she had loved Shawn Yates.

Shawn Yates’s family wasn’t particularly prominent, merely middle-class, lacking any background. However, he was diligent, a standout at school, and after graduation, secured a decent job.

"Shawn Yates, listen to me, don’t linger around Serenford with me. You know your family background, and you know mine. In your heart, you know it well, my future husband can only be Hugo Quinn, no one else."

Shawn Yates’s body stiffened, his eyes turned bleak.

"I don’t think you’re a vain woman. You’re just more attracted to appearances than others. I admit, Hugo Quinn is attractive, but he doesn’t have much time for you. Jean, I’ll wait for you. I’ll put in the effort; I’ve already started a business."

Jean Nash withdrew her hand, offering no hope.

"Take good care of your health. Once it’s better, I’ll personally send you off."

Shawn Yates’s heart trembled slightly, wanting to say more, but she had already left.

His brow furrowed, suddenly thinking Lan Yancy’s group had gone too easy on him. They should have beaten him severely, incapacitating him for a year. That way, he could have stayed in Serenford longer.

His eyes rolled, coming up with a great idea—perhaps before that, he should have Lan Yancy capture him once more. If next time Jean Nash rescues him again, it would mean he truly holds a place in her heart!

Thinking of this, he was too happy to sleep, hoping that day would come soon.

Jean Nash probably never expected the obedient man would collude with others to deceive her. The kidnapping was just the beginning.

By evening, she had returned to the villa, feeling rather good these days after Shawn Yates narrowly escaped death.
