Chapter 77: Meeting the Chief [2]

A palace manifested. Towering white pillars, majestic white, stone staircase like they were leading to heaven.

I shot Suge a look, Didn’t this motherfucker say chief lived in a hut? The building infront of me looked like the child of White house and a medieval castle.

Suge just shrugged. People be seeing anything to make shit sound dramatic.

We were instantly on one knee, including Subaru, the moment we heard his voice.

"Hello," I nodded politely, without breaking the bow. I didn’t wanna risk my veil of ascension.

I still felt his presence right where the staircase ended and a flat surface began.

"No need for formalities. Stand up, please," He smiled softly.

I shot up instantly. Followed by Alya and Subaru. Suge stood up rather awkwardly and hesitantly.

He was old. Long white beard that he surely rubbed as he pondered. His body was very frail and skinny. Though, he was around six foot four like me.

His wrinkled face curled upwards in a smile, "It was very hard, wasn’t it..." He said fatherly.

Alya’s head lowered, her lips were quivering. I placed a hand on her back. He was referring to Mari Swan captivity and the genocide we survived.

"Thanks to you, it’s over. Safety and peace of mind feels great." I replied gratefully.

Even if I could’ve escaped myself, there was no way I could’ve had that much joy in eating with Alya and Subaru, or love Alya like last night.

The safety Suneater’s walls provided to our hearts was something that genuinely made me grateful to this man.

"I did nothing. It was all Lord Pazuzu, Kobi, Zhenny, Louise and rest of the Alphas." He shook his head firmly. Clearly, he didn’t want to be credited.

I respected that. He seemed like a humble, reasonable type.

Suge’s face twitched at his name not being mentioned but he of course didn’t dare let it show.

"You’re too humble," I nodded respectfully.

"You already understand what Lord Pazuzu represent, right? Such a high risk mission could never happen if not for him." Chief’s tone grew serious. Come to think of it, he hasn’t even told his name.

"Yes, Zhenny and Louise told me somethings. We are grateful for his help.

Also, I am curious for what might motivate lord Pazuzu to help someone like me." I replied humbly.

I was afterall, just a vampire. He seemed like a big shot. Maybe someone equal to Freida.

"He’s on Astral plain. His body was destroyed..." Chief’s face darkened, "...By the vampire Queen. By Freida."

My eyes widened. WHY?

Maybe she had her reasons. I can’t jump to conclusions without knowing anything. But, it did answer why Suneater was so hesitant.

After letting the world hang for a moment, chief continued, "As far as I am aware, he’s very motivated to revive himself. I believe it’s because you can somehow help him with that. Just a speculation."

"Hm... It does make sense." I nodded, logic was sound. But, I doubted I could help someone at that level right. But, future looked very promising for me, with my Primordial assimilation and take hero’s skills.

Maybe, I will get some skill that will help me do that. I didn’t had any doubts about him having some sorta future sight. It wouldn’t be right to do all that without proper information.

When even Alyndra had that, why can’t him?

"I want you to live here till lord Pazuzu contacts any of us or you. You won’t have any responsibilities and we will try to fulfill any wishes you have as long as we can."

Tempting. My main goal was entering the Primordial trials after getting stronger. Having a safe house would be great.

But. "Forgive me, but at maximum, I can stay here only for around a month or two." My plan is to hit the folks who want me dead before they can do anything.

They expect me to hide so I will have some advantage. I managed to kill an Overload so they are bound to track and hit me again.

And, if they could wipe out a race from the so called strongest empire with just a handful of people, what stops them from doing that to Sepherdia.

They do they say no one can enter through forest but surely they have teleportation too. I am no way in hell just sitting here while my enemies prepare.

"Can we raise that to a year?" Chief asked thoughtfully.

I shook my head. My red eyes looking straight in his golden.

"I understand." He smiled, his eyes had more respect for me than we had started at.

"I will hold the ritual to contact with Pazuzu today. Convince him to talk with you sooner than later and aid you in his agenda."

"Okay, thank you for everything," I smiled. This was perfect.

He just shook his head with a smile, "Nothing is personal in this world. We all have are very selfish goals no matter how much we pretend."

"That’s... true." His words gave me deja vu. Wasn’t Alyndra saying something similar?

"That’s all, you can leave now." He nodded, turning around.

Just as I was also about to leave, "Wait." Alya spoke, prompting chief to turn around curiously.

"Do you know anything about the Vampire incident?" She asked with high hopes.

Chief’s eyes scanned her for a long minute before he replied.

"King of Velmoria is a crafty man. He easily weakened the strongest empire with the wipe out of vampires and bringing upon a civil war so perfectly."

Chief took a deep breath, "He united the strongest human empires by creating a common enemy. Built trust by showing miraculous results at bare minimum costs."

"I wonder what does he want..." My eyes narrowed with rage. This guy basically ruined so many lives for power.

"The divine generals he has, one of them had recently achieved mythical grade from the divination magic I last did.

Mythical grade is peak a living creature can achieve, they become a god at that point. Someone loyal to him, a human, is the first human to achieve that status."

"First human?!" All four of us were startled. And, he was still loyal to the king?

"That person is now equal to people like Freida and Lord Pazuzu. I believe the king is the one who could plan that ascension. Only with his resources and craftiness that could’ve been achieved.

With most mythical beings disappeared (Which he was probably the cause of), his minion is the only active one. Clearly, he plans to replicate what he achieved and evolve all of his divine generals to that status." He finished with a deep, tired sigh.

"He’s dangerous." Subaru commented. Even he had been shy of reaching Mythical status in his prime.

"That’s right. He already owns the world and he will become the absolute emperor with a unified mega empire in a complete dictatorship if we left him alone." His deep voice raised a tense, long silence.

The world would be fucked if someone like him gained that much power.

"So, vampire incident is part of some elaborate plan by him...." Alya said, her face pale, her nails dug so deeply in her palms that crimson covered them.

Her home and life was destroyed by him. It provided her freedom. It’s a lot. But, at more cost than she could pay. I could see that the longer I looked at her expression.

I should go through the new memories I gained last night sooner than later. Right when they were about to flash, I stopped it. Now, I can play them anytime I want.

"If we are basing it off assumptions, that’s right. But, only he knows what and how he wants. What Sepherdia wants to do is to just be prepared to fend ourselves. It’s much harder than I would like to believe." Chief chuckled bitterly.

After some more pleasantries, we descended the mountain. Our moods had been worse than ever.

We just learned a little bit more about just one of our enemies and it already seemed impossible. Add that with divine generals, other human empires, church, and only god knows what else.

But, one thing was clear, I need even more power. And, maybe I need to recruit other people in my conquest to hit my enemies.

Like, there’s a lot of common ground. Even Sepherdia as an example realizes the threat of Velmoria’s king. Powers like that could be united easily if I can prove myself.

Also, maybe Elves and Litches, the surviving part of the Nocthra empire could be united. I was the prince. There was some chance I could somehow end the civil war.

I know now that they weren’t the culprits most likely. Maybe, my own mother was. Or, it was just sheer craftiness of Velmoria’s king.

But, that was again, just speculation. I need to find certain proof that both of them are innocent and stand my ground to reunite the strongest empire.

If Velmoria’s king wants them weak, best move against him would be to reunite them.

As we descended the mountain, I finally decided to watch Alya’s memories.
