Chapter 74: The King’s Eyes

Night slowly crept over the city of Vashtraal. The city of reptiles felt eerily silent, as if all life was holding its breath before something terrifying happened.

Alvaric sat quietly in his room, alone. The room was made of solid earth, artistically shaped like a natural hollow. The curved walls felt warm—very different from any place he had ever lived.

The light from a crystal lamp on the ceiling glowed dimly. Beneath it, Alvaric stared at his own hand.

He raised one palm and opened a system screen visible only to him—a floating blue screen in the air.

[STATUS]

Name: Alvaric

Race: Human

Class: Human Hemomancer

‣ Blood Domain – Lv.1 (Active – New)

‣ Eye’s of Monarch (Active – New)

‣ Blood Domination

‣ Enhanced Regeneration

‣ Shield Regeneration

Evolution Points: 53,100 / 100,000

Alvaric frowned. "Still far. I’ve only collected half. I need to find a big mission like before."

He stroked his chin, thinking deeply. He started to recall how he used to get missions.

"But they were too random. It’s impossible to get missions by coincidence." Suddenly, Alvaric tilted his head. "That’s right. I should be able to do that."

He sighed. He would try it later. But for now, he wanted to focus on what he had gained from defeating a powerful enemy.

[Blood Domain – Lv.1]

Type: Battle Dimension (Active)

Description:

When Blood Domain is activated, the user drags enemies into a sealed personal dimension. Within it, the user’s power drastically increases, and all outside elements are blocked. Blood control increases by 60%.

Activation Condition:

Can only be used if a clear enemy is nearby. Without a target, the skill cannot be activated.

Side Effect:

Stamina and blood consumption rise sharply. After the duration ends, the user will experience severe fatigue, possibly fainting for a full day depending on the duration and their endurance.

Alvaric nodded slowly. He wanted to try it once, in a battle against a strong opponent. He was curious just how powerful this new skill was.

Inside the Blood Domain, the world should feel different. Time would slow. Sounds would almost vanish. Only him and his enemy. Only life or death. That was Alvaric’s guess—it could be right or wrong.

"This is the most interesting part," said Alvaric.

Now he had a very useful skill. With the added ability Eye’s of Monarch, he could see five seconds into the future. Combined with Blood Domain... it would be terrifying, if used correctly.

"If I can activate both at the same time..."

That remained a question. Could all skills be used inside Blood Domain, or only those related to blood?

There was only one way to find out—try it directly.

"I hope it’ll be useful for me."

His evolution points were still fifty-three thousand one hundred. He needed 100,000 to take the next step—whatever that next evolution looked like. No matter how painful or dangerous it was, he knew one thing: he had to either level up or fight stronger enemies to trigger missions.

"Each level up gives me 100 evolution points. My level is 15 now, so I can still level up 84 more times." As he calculated, Alvaric’s face darkened. "That only gives me 8,400 points. Added to what I have now... that’s just 61,500. That’s not enough."

Alvaric could only shake his head. He couldn’t believe leveling up wasn’t a viable way to earn evolution points.

But then he fell silent. For about two minutes, he said nothing.

"If I reach level 99... won’t I evolve?"

He stroked his chin again. So leveling up wasn’t such a bad option after all. He wouldn’t gain points, but he could still evolve.

"Then I’ll level up. I’ll ask Serya to take me to a place best for grinding levels."

Alvaric nodded multiple times. He felt this was the most reasonable and best choice.

But for tonight, he would sleep. Tomorrow, he would carry out his plan.

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door.

Knock knock!

"Are you still awake?" someone called.

Alvaric recognized the voice immediately. It was Serya. And she wasn’t alone. There were two presences outside.

"Wait a sec!" Alvaric replied.

He stood up and walked to the door, opening it slowly. Just as he expected, there stood Serya—with Velka perched on her shoulder.

Both smiled as the door opened.

"We’re not disturbing you, are we?" Serya asked.

"No. Come in."

Serya stepped in calmly. Velka nodded respectfully and followed. Alvaric sat back on his chair made of earth. Velka hopped down and sat on the table right in front of Serya, ready to react if needed.

"What brings you here this late?" Alvaric asked.

"I want to offer you something," said Serya directly. Her gaze was serious but warm. "We found an old dungeon to the north, about three days’ journey from here."

Alvaric sharpened his ears. He was interested.

"But it’s not a normal dungeon. That place... hasn’t been entered for hundreds of years, it seems. Even the generals haven’t stepped inside. I have a good feeling about it. Do you want to come?" Serya explained.

"Why come to me?" Alvaric asked softly.

"Because you’re strong," Serya answered quickly. "You defeated a general. Do you think that’s normal? Of course not. One general equals millions of demi-humans."

Alvaric chuckled. "You’re flattering me." He turned serious again. "I actually planned to ask you to hunt monsters together. So this is perfect timing. Fate, maybe."

"I’ll go. Velka and I. But we won’t go alone. I’ll bring many soldiers."

Alvaric raised a hand. "No, I don’t think that’s necessary. Just bring four people total, including Velka and the driver. No more."

Serya clearly didn’t like that idea. "Are you crazy? This is an unexplored dungeon. Entering without full escort is suicide."

"You only have two choices. I go, but under my condition. Or you go alone. I’ll head out on my own," Alvaric said firmly.

Serya sighed deeply. She shook her head repeatedly. She didn’t expect Alvaric to be this stubborn. She didn’t want to agree, but she needed him.

Without Alvaric, it would be difficult—and they might all die.

"Fine. I’ll go with your idea," she said without hesitation. "We leave the morning after tomorrow? Two days should be enough to prepare."

"No," Alvaric said with a smile. "Tomorrow morning. At sunrise. The sooner the better."

Serya simply nodded. She had no choice, even if she wanted to refuse. In Vashtraal, there weren’t many strong fighters. Only the general from Serya’s family—but unfortunately, he was away on a royal mission.

"Alright. Tomorrow morning it is."

"Good."

Alvaric liked her answer. He needed a place to test Blood Domain—and opponents to understand Eye’s of Monarch more deeply.

Besides, he needed lots of EXP to level up. Both sides would benefit.

It should be an equal deal.

"Alright. I’ll prepare myself."

Serya stood. Velka bowed briefly before following her mistress out of the room. Before leaving, Serya turned and said,

"At that place... you’ll see many things. So don’t be reckless. You could die," she said.

Alvaric nodded. The door closed softly. The room returned to silence. Alone again, Alvaric took a deep breath.

"An ancient dungeon, huh... should be interesting."

He looked at his status screen one more time before closing it.

Tomorrow, it would begin.

Alvaric couldn’t wait.

"I really can’t wait."

The next morning, Serya, Velka, and two others arrived in front of Alvaric’s place. They would start from there, as Alvaric had chosen a home outside the city ruler’s residence.

In fact, he lived quite far from there—near the city gate.

He was staying at a motel in Vashtraal. Not exactly a luxurious place, but... Alvaric insisted on it.

Serya had objected, but Alvaric was stubborn. Hard to change his view of things.

"You ready?" Serya greeted as Alvaric stepped out of his room.

"Of course."

Without being told, Alvaric climbed into the carriage like he and Serya were close friends. Though, that wasn’t necessarily true.

Once Alvaric was inside the horse-drawn carriage, it began to move.

Meanwhile, somewhere else on a different day, Maria’s group was surrounded by the Ant Bees. Not only that, they saw a demon girl standing before them.

Maria remembered the Demon Girl in front of her very well—she was the reason her previous unit had been massacred. Maria’s hands and feet trembled.

But the Demon Girl didn’t show any killing intent at all. In fact, she was smiling. The Demon Girl’s name was Lyrith.

However, that smile was interpreted differently by Maria and her companions.

"You all remind me of Alvaric," said Lyrith.

The moment she heard that name, Maria’s eyes widened. Her fear vanished instantly. She stepped forward toward Lyrith.

At the same time, the Ant Bees began to show hostility. Some of them were already ready to attack Maria, assuming she was going to absorb Lyrith.

Maria’s companions also prepared themselves—but no attack came.

"You just said Alvaric’s name, didn’t you? Tell me! Where is he?" asked Maria.

"I don’t know," Lyrith replied.

Maria frowned. "How can you not know? Didn’t you just mention his name a moment ago?"

Lyrith tilted her head. "Who? What did I say?"

She had lost her memory again.
