Chapter 91: 091, Celebrate Birthday on Set (Second Update)

Chen Xin’s voice came cautiously from beside him, "Mr. Jiang, may I take a photo with you?"

His thoughts interrupted, Jiang Yisheng responded with a faint smile, "Of course."

His low, magnetic voice struck her tender heart, and Chen Xin couldn’t suppress the smile on her lips as she hurriedly took out her phone.

She moved a couple of steps to stand next to Jiang Yisheng and even made a childlike scissor gesture.

A "click" sounded, and the photo was taken.

Chen Xin held her phone, grinning from ear to ear, planning to set the picture as her wallpaper.

After the photo was taken, Jiang Yisheng grabbed a new cup of coffee and quietly left while everyone else was busy chatting.

The night had just experienced rain, leaving the ground muddy.

In the corridor, only a dim light provided illumination.

After asking the crew about Ji Mingqian’s makeup room, Jiang Yisheng came alone.

The breeze was cool, and he drew his coat tighter around himself, hesitating before the slightly ajar door of the makeup room.

If he was turned away, it would be quite embarrassing.

After hesitating for a while, he reached out and knocked on the door.

"Knock knock knock."

Soon, a magnetic voice sounded, "Come in."

Jiang Yisheng pushed the door and entered, treading lightly.

The hairdryer was whirring; not far away, Ji Mingqian had taken a shower, changed out of his wet clothes, and was blow-drying his hair with one hand while replying to messages on his phone with the other.

"Chen Xin, you go back first tomorrow afternoon, I have some things to take care of and probably won’t return until the day after," Ji Mingqian said without looking up, assuming it was Chen Xin who entered.

Jiang Yisheng braced himself and spoke up, "It’s me."

The gentle voice came from behind, and Ji Mingqian turned off the hairdryer, facing those clear green eyes as he turned around.

A cold eyebrow raised, "What’s up?"

Jiang Yisheng approached, his water-colored lips parting slightly, "About the dinner last time, I’m sorry for the trouble I caused you."

"It was indeed quite troublesome," Ji Mingqian said candidly.

With that, the conversation seemed to reach a dead end.

Jiang Yisheng’s gaze fell, and a touch of embarrassment flickered in the depths of his eyes.

Seeing him with his head down, like a child who had made a mistake, Ji Mingqian curled his lips into a smile, "Don’t worry, I didn’t take it to heart."

Hearing this, Jiang Yisheng finally breathed a sigh of relief, his face breaking into a smile again as he handed over the coffee in his hand.

"For you."

Ji Mingqian joked, "A peace offering?"

Jiang Yisheng laughed openly, "You could say that, drink some hot coffee to warm your stomach, it’ll keep you from catching a cold."

Ji Mingqian didn’t refuse, taking the hot coffee and teasing him, "You’re talking about yourself, I presume."

Every time they met, he looked like he was on his last legs.

Jiang Yisheng quietly smiled with pursed lips.

"Feel free to sit down, no need to be formal," Ji Mingqian sipped his coffee and gestured for him to sit.

Jiang Yisheng shook his head, "No, it’s getting late; I’ll just say hello to Uncle Xu and then I need to leave."

Ji Mingqian put on his coat, pocketed his car keys and phone, "I’m leaving too, let’s go together."

Jiang Yisheng nodded in agreement.

When the two returned to the filming location, it was pitch dark, and the lights were all out.

"Is there a power outage?" Jiang Yisheng looked around, then turned his gaze back to Ji Mingqian.

Ji Mingqian, "I don’t know."

"Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you..."

Multiple voices mixed together, yet they were unified.

Suddenly, the surrounding lights came on, dispelling the darkness.

Ji Mingqian looked up as the staff pushed a three-layered large cake toward him, surrounded by everyone on the set.

The flickering candlelight was unstable, illuminating his handsome face.

Ji Mingqian flashed a mischievous smile, "Getting to eat cake this late at night, not bad luck at all."

"Big BOSS, happy birthday," Chen Xin said with a beaming smile, "The cake was bought by Director Xu."

Director Xu took the cake knife and handed it to Ji Mingqian, saying with a smile, "Birthday boy, hurry up and cut the cake, everyone is eager."

Ji Mingqian took the cake knife, blew out the candles, and cut a slice of cake before passing the knife to Chen Xin, "Let everyone share it."

The crowd surged forward and noisily shared the cake.

Aside, Jiang Yisheng turned to the person beside him and offered an apologetic smile, "I didn’t know today was your birthday; I didn’t prepare a gift for you."

After symbolically taking a bite of the cake, Ji Mingqian set it aside and stopped eating.

"I’m not a child, what do I need gifts for?" he said, amused.

And his actual birthday should be the day after tomorrow.

A cold breeze whisked by as the lights suddenly went out completely.

Darkness enveloped everyone.

"What’s going on?"

"Did someone turn off the breaker?"

"Hurry up and check what happened."

Everyone holding their pieces of cake looked at each other, confused.

Shortly after, a staff member ran back.

Out of breath he said, "There’s a problem with the electricity here, it’s being fixed now, but it’s going to take some time."

"And since the streetlights are out and it’s started raining outside, the ground is quite muddy, so it’s not safe to go down the mountain. Everyone should stay here for a while until the rain stops, or until the electrical fault is fixed, and then we can all go rest."

"Then let’s all wait, go find some emergency lights to use temporarily," Director Xu commanded, "Continue eating the cake; work will start at ten o’clock tomorrow instead."

Hearing they could rest later the next day, everyone cheered.

They were suddenly quite glad about the power outage.

"Asheng, you should stay here for a while, too, and leave later," Director Xu said, knowing that Jiang Yisheng had come to visit the set alone and was concerned for his safety.

Jiang Yisheng softly acknowledged and walked to the side, finding a chair to sit down.

After a day of filming, Ji Mingqian’s face couldn’t hide his fatigue, "Not eating cake?"

Jiang Yisheng replied, "It’s too late, and I don’t really eat sweets."

Ji Mingqian pulled a face but didn’t deliberately strike up another conversation.

He leaned back, stretched out his long legs, and closed his eyes to rest.

As the night deepened, the rain showed no signs of letting up, becoming even more rampant.

The electrical fault wouldn’t be fixed in a short amount of time, and with no other choice, everyone had to stay inside the set.

Used to resting at a set time every day, Jiang Yisheng started to doze off in the chair after a little while.

Unconsciously, he curled up his legs and fell asleep leaning against the chair.

Behind the set was a mountain, and the temperature plummeted during the night.

Ji Mingqian pinched the bridge of his nose, and in the darkness, the peaceful sleeping face of the person beside him became clear in his view.

His eyes narrowed, his gaze landing on the arms the person held tight and his eyebrows slightly raised.

After a moment, he stood up, took off his jacket, and carefully placed it over the other’s body.

Withdrawing his hand, he turned and walked away.

Passing through the corridor, he encountered Chen Xin and a few staff members.

"Big BOSS, where are you going?"

"Got something to do."

Seeing him wearing just a thin short-sleeved shirt, Chen Xin asked with concern, "It’s windy outside, is that all you’re wearing? Do you want me to get you a jacket?"

"No need, you guys should also go rest early," Ji Mingqian said and walked away without stopping.
