Chapter 127: Defeated General (3rd watch)

"Captain."

Liu Cong, leaning against the wall, keenly spotted the person coming out of the elevator and waved to him.

"Captain, over here."

The crowd turned to look as Xiang Tian and Baona walked over side by side.

"The car is waiting outside, let’s head to the track first," Xiang Tian said in a deep voice. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶

Gao Yang asked, "Did someone notify the boss about the last-minute change in our race time?"

Baona replied, "I’ve already called the boss, she’ll come directly to the track to find us."

"Let’s go, let’s not waste any more time," commanded Xiang Tian.

A line of nine people, all in uniform team attire, eight of them tall and leggy ’big brothers’, their strut turning heads.

Eastern Suburbs

Under the fierce sun, the cicadas intermittently cried from the treetops.

The race setup was complete, and despite the last-minute change in timetable, it had still attracted a lot of racing fans, with the once-empty seats gradually filling with a throng of onlookers.

Baona pushed the door open and entered the lounge, prompting everyone, including Xiang Tian, to stand up.

"Baona, has the boss arrived?"

"Not yet," she said, looking around the room. "Where’s everyone else?"

"Lin Yan and Gao Yang went to deliver some materials for the coach," Liu Cong explained.

As if recalling something, Baona turned to look at Xiang Tian and said softly, "Xiang Tian, I saw Anders."

Their presence at this year’s most important event wasn’t surprising.

Before she finished speaking, everyone fell silent.

Last year, their adversary had been Anders’ team, and their defeat had been brutal.

Xiang Tian’s tight fist slowly relaxed, a steely resolve flashing through his brown eyes.

Raising his voice, he said loudly, "Everybody, brace yourselves. Today we’re going to take back everything we lost last year.

"Captain," the team looked at him, their expressions complex.

"Xiang Tian is right. Don’t forget the boss will be here today too. We have to win the championship in front of her," Baona said with a bright smile, her voice firm and resolute.

The team exchanged smiles, nodding in agreement—they only had the option to win, not lose. They had to deliver the trophy to her, upholding the promise they had once made.

...

After handing over the documents, Lin Yan and his companion hurried back.

"Be careful, Lin Yan," warned Gao Yang, noticing someone darting out into their path.

Unfortunately, he was a moment too late.

Lin Yan, slender and unable to stop in time, was knocked back a few steps.

Gao Yang quickly steadied him by the shoulder. "Are you okay?"

Lin Yan steadied himself, "I’m fine."

"I thought it was someone important, turns out it’s just our defeated juniors," came a taunting voice, dripping with sarcasm.

Lin Yan and his companion looked up to see eight familiar faces before them, their gaze finally resting in unspoken agreement on the man at the forefront.

Suddenly, both of their expressions changed.

Anders.

"You two don’t look so well. Are you too surprised to see us here?" the man with purple hair jeered, chin lifted arrogantly as he scrutinized Lin Yan and his companion.

"Lei Ding, they were your underlings last year. They must be scared stiff seeing you, which is why they look so awful, right?" The man slinging his arm over the shoulder of the one with purple hair chuckled, his scornful gaze turning to Gao Yang, "Am I right, Gao Yang?"

"Don’t push us too far," spat Lin Yan, young and impulsive, and when he heard the mockery directed at Gao Yang, he immediately got angry.

Gao Yang’s eyes darkened, and he grabbed Lin Yan’s arm, whispering, "Don’t be rash."

If they caused a fight before the race, they could lose their qualification to compete.
