Chapter 368: Chapter 300: Transforming into Human Form (Part 2)

Qinghan shook his head without thinking, "She was on a tourist route. She was certain her father was here because she got insider information about why Kangaroo Country was sealing off this part of the desert."

This Miss Tang really has a knack for journalism, with quite a talent for uncovering insider info. But bringing people into a deadly zone where even professional expedition teams leave with no return is pretty much akin to suicide.

If she could find Shunfeng, then if they entered together, it wouldn’t be about who has more skill or abilities, but about who has more luck.

Our entire team lost track of time, but fortunately, Qinghan and the others were experienced, silently counting in their heads to estimate the time. Even if it wasn’t perfectly accurate, it wouldn’t be far off.

And with the three of them counting simultaneously, when they checked the time every hour, amazingly, their discrepancies were within three seconds.

Doctor Du and I just listened. I never practiced this, so my count was definitely off. Doctor Du clearly wasn’t good at counting seconds in her head either. She had other observations; she noticed a corpse in the sand.

At this point, we had been trekking through the desert for about two and a half hours. Doctor Du’s gaze first landed on something in the distance.

I thought it was a scarecrow because it roughly resembled a human figure in a very casual way, but there’s no farmland in the desert, so I figured it was just a strangely shaped plant.

However, Doctor Du took it very seriously, indicated for us to pause, and went over to take a look.

Qinghan couldn’t let her go alone, so he sent Wang Le with her. Wang Le and Huang Zaijiang were quite talkative outside, but once in here, they spoke less.

Doctor Du and Wang Le stood near the humanoid plant for a while, exchanged a few words, but we were too far to hear them clearly. Then they both came back, and Doctor Du asked Mike if one of his team members had perished here.

Mike nodded, and Doctor Du then took him over. As Mike got closer to that plant, he immediately became agitated, shouting loudly that it was impossible.

Mike wanted to meddle with the plant, but Doctor Du wouldn’t let him. They got into a physical altercation, and as a result... the tall and burly Mike was flung several meters away by Doctor Du pulling his arm.

Female operatives are always skilled. Though I hadn’t had the chance to witness Lilith’s abilities last time, I believed she surely had them. Otherwise, Liang Ruidong and the others wouldn’t regard her so highly. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

Seeing that hands-on wasn’t effective, Mike calmed down. They returned and said that the plant had absorbed the corpse and transformed into a new species.

When Mike and his team reached this spot, a team member got bitten by some unknown bug and stopped breathing within fifteen seconds.

They buried the body next to a marked plant, under the sand. The plant absorbed the body and became a plant person.

He said that person was still breathing, but Doctor Du said it was the plant’s doing, not a case of rising from the dead.

They argued over this, with Mike wanting to save the person, while Doctor Du insisted it wasn’t a person, leading to the big fight.

So the question arose, was the plant person truly a person?

As I pondered this profound question, Qinghan nudged me, "Be careful, the plant moved."

The desert in Kangaroo Country has many plants, and several were around us. Huang Zaijiang mentioned that these plants were peculiar.

I asked him what was strange, and he said these plants were several times bigger than their original size. For instance, grass that should have been only knee-high was now over human height.

And those that should grow low to the ground stood half a meter tall.

I had seen a movie with mutated crocodiles before, where the crocodiles grew much larger than their original size, attacking boats with their massive jaws.

So it’s possible there’s ’contamination’ here, but thankfully it hasn’t spread outwards, being contained within a certain range by a mysterious zone.

The plants within this range are affected, mutating, and they can absorb corpses to form plant people.

Where there are plants, there are animals. Thinking of this, I looked around, remembering that Mike’s team member died from a single insect bite, indicating the animals here were even more dangerous.

Doctor Du seemed to be on the same wavelength, pulling out a few items from her backpack to give us.

How should I describe it? Basically, it’s a helmet-like mosquito net.

Or like the headgear worn by fencers. Anyway, putting it on made me feel like leftover food from last night that needed covering to avoid attracting flies.
