Chapter 338: Chapter 279: Unyielding Defiance

"Really."

"Master!" Cheng Xuelin laughed, full of envy.

We’ve been on the move since entering the passage, following those ’voices,’ and avoiding all dead ends and traps.

At first, Cheng Xuelin didn’t notice, talking to me while following along.

After about twenty minutes, he suddenly realized that we hadn’t encountered a single dead end or trap.

Qian Yu mentioned that the maze is full of mechanisms, and his specialty is judging where there might be traps based on the building structure, an area where he has extensive experience.

When he came down, he observed the passage structure and said there were plenty of spaces inside where traps could be set.

Cheng Xuelin dared to follow me partly because he was gutsy, but twenty minutes in, and he hadn’t hit a single trap.

Of course, he would be puzzled, "Hey? Didn’t Mr. Qian say there were plenty of traps? Could he have been wrong? No way, he’s got eagle eyes; sometimes I even suspect he has X-ray vision."

Cheng Xuelin’s muttering didn’t interfere with my pathfinding. Though the traps could be dodged, every advantage has its drawbacks. The ’voices’ could guide me, yet they posed an unavoidable challenge.

"We’ll run into some creatures soon. Stay at this corner, don’t move no matter what you see or hear, don’t go forward or back, got it?" I led Cheng Xuelin to a corner of a passageway. This passage was quite narrow, barely enough for two to walk side by side, but once you turn, it opens up into a broader passage large enough for two carts to pass side by side.

This wide space wasn’t meant for convenience; it was a death trap, definitely.

"Got it." Cheng Xuelin nodded.

"Alright, stay here." I turned and stepped out of the narrow passage into the spacious corridor.

As I reached the middle of the corridor, the ceilings at both ends suddenly flipped. What had appeared to be stone slabs were actually alive, turning out to be human-bodied, dog-headed creatures.

They were pitch-black, with knife-like claws, and their dog heads had a pair of blood-red eyes like wild dogs used to eating dead children’s flesh, with sticky saliva dripping down their sharp teeth.

This creature resembled a deity from Ancient Nile Country murals, yet only slightly, certainly not the same thing.

They weren’t particularly intelligent, possessing simple thoughts, thinking it was mealtime—a meal they missed before was now delivered to their door.

I guessed they referred to their last meal as Chen Qinghan’s group, further convincing me we were at the right place.

Dozens of Kobolds surrounded me. I glanced at Cheng Xuelin’s position; seeing he hadn’t foolishly rushed out, I felt reassured.

The dog heads rushed forward, trying to rend flesh with their claws. I jumped up, stabbing my dagger into the chest of the first Kobold that charged.

They were tall, over two and a half meters, making their heads difficult targets.

But the dagger struck with a ’clang,’ as if hitting stone, without even piercing the skin.

Looking back at the corner, I saw Cheng Xuelin peeking out, his head halfway exposed.

"Get your head back!" I shouted, not in his direction, to avoid alerting the Kobolds to his presence.

Cheng Xuelin quickly ducked back, and that was when I unleashed my killer move. A red glow flashed, and the dog heads of the dozen Kobolds burned away by Karmic Fire, leaving only their bodies to collapse to the ground.

"Alright, come out." I called over to Cheng Xuelin as I glanced at the headless bodies sprawled everywhere.

He jogged over, stepping over the corpses, asking as he reached me, "Are you hurt?"

I shook my head, "No."

Cheng Xuelin looked at me oddly, glancing between the headless corpses and me, as if wrestling with something internally.

"Don’t ask what my weapon is; I won’t tell you," I said plainly.

"Can I guess?"

"Guess away."

"Blood Drop!"

"You guessed it."

"Really? It’s really Blood Drop? I saw it on TV; it’s incredible."

Chen Qinghan had told their department leader I was a reclusive master, unparalleled in martial arts. Somehow, word of this spread to other colleagues. Most didn’t believe it, thinking Chen Qinghan had made up a mysterious, impressive identity for me to secure my position. Only a few believed, Cheng Xuelin among them.

He only just told me about this, indicating that in this team, only he believed in my real skills; the others were more inclined to trust Lilith’s abilities.

Most people only trust what they see with their own eyes. Cheng Xuelin, daring to follow a ’master’ based on hearsay, was the real oddball.
