The Ice King's Little Trouble Maker-Chapter 576 - 540: Start a Relationship to Relieve Boredom
"There are plenty of people who like me," Qin Xia said. "First, I’m beautiful; people line up to pursue me. Second, I’m popular. More than half want to cling to me, to use my fame."
Chu Zhengran looked at her proud and smug expression.
Qin Xia continued, "It’s a completely normal thing. Don’t you like me, too? Isn’t it all the same?"
Those are the words, and that is the logic.
But hearing it sounded so unpleasant.
Chu Zhengran’s gentle face turned a little unpleasant.
Qin Xia went on, "Was it necessary to smash a cup? You could’ve just given it to me. I could’ve flipped it and earned enough to buy myself an outfit."
Chu Zhengran still didn’t speak.
Qin Xia asked, "What? What’s up with your expression? Am I wrong? Or do you think you’re different from others to me?"
"What do you think?" Chu Zhengran finally said something.
His voice was a bit hoarse, also a bit trembling.
The emotions were a bit unclear.
Qin Xia looked at him, stared for a while, didn’t say anything, stepped forward, and grabbed the pajamas from his hand, then went straight into the bathroom with them.
Chu Zhengran watched her back, after a while, pressed his thumb and finger on his brow, sighed softly, and sat on the sofa.
Qin Xia’s washing up was quick.
She had been filming night scenes for two consecutive nights and hadn’t rested during the day.
She was already at her limit.
After washing up, she lay on the bed and fell asleep immediately.
One could say she fell asleep as soon as she hit the bed.
Chu Zhengran spoke to her twice, and she didn’t respond.
All that answered him was her steady breathing.
Chu Zhengran didn’t disturb her again. He covered her with the blanket, adjusted the room temperature to what she liked, and sat by the bed watching her for a while before he got up to wash up.
After washing up.
Afraid of waking Qin Xia. Chu Zhengran went outside to have the nurse set up the IV for him, then he returned to the ward carrying the IV bottle himself.
After the IV was finished, he carried the bottle himself to have the nurse remove the needle.
Living in a VIP ward, he felt there was no VIP treatment at all.
Although Qin Xia was so tired she fell asleep as soon as she hit the bed, her sleep quality was good.
A little rest was highly effective for her.
Three or four hours were enough.
It might have become a habit from years of filming.
So Qin Xia, who had gone to bed early, woke up in the middle of the night.
After she opened her eyes, she took a while to process her surroundings before realizing where she was.
The hospital room had a double bed for both the patient and the caregiver.
The two beds were very close to each other.
The patient bed had a curtain all around it that could be drawn.
For the convenience of washing and changing clothes for the person on the hospital bed.
The curtain had never been drawn during the days Qin Xia took care of Chu Zhengran.
They had always just slept like that.
But today, the curtain was drawn.
And there was light on the other side of the curtain.
Qin Xia looked at the faint light coming through the curtain.
Chu Zhengran was probably handling something and drew the curtain to avoid disturbing her.
Qin Xia lay there for a while, then got up and walked over.
Chu Zhengran was replying to emails. His typing on the keyboard was very light and slow, barely making any sound.
He caught sight of Qin Xia approaching out of the corner of his eye, looked up, and hesitated. "Did I wake you?"
"No," Qin Xia said as she came closer.
Chu Zhengran leaned against the headboard, looking at her. "Why did you wake up?"
Qin Xia sat on the chair by the bed, resting her elbow on the bedside table, propping her chin with her hand as she looked at him.
There was still some dreamy sleepiness in her eyes.
Chu Zhengran set the laptop aside and looked at her, "What’s wrong?"
Qin Xia blinked lightly and said, "It’s late. Do you not want your health?"
Chu Zhengran smiled slightly, "I can’t sleep. Better to do something than nothing."
"Let me get you some sleeping pills," Qin Xia suggested.
"No need," Chu Zhengran said softly, "Why did you wake up?"
"Finished sleeping," Qin Xia replied. "I woke up, and the sky wasn’t bright yet. It’s boring."
"Wanna watch a movie?" Chu Zhengran asked.
Qin Xia, chin in hand, lazily replied, "Whose movies? Mine?"
"We can," Chu Zhengran said. "I have uncut versions saved here."
Qin Xia chuckled, "Sneaking the good stuff."
Chu Zhengran also chuckled.
Qin Xia asked again, "How many do you have saved?"
"Every single one," Chu Zhengran replied.
Qin Xia chuckled again, "Have you watched all of them?"
"Yes, many times," Chu Zhengran said.
Qin Xia looked at him, no longer speaking.
The room was dim, with only a faint light from the laptop.
Everything around became softened, losing its sharp edges.
Chu Zhengran also watched Qin Xia, his voice becoming increasingly gentle. After a pause, he asked, "What’s wrong?"
He sensed that something was a bit off with Qin Xia’s emotions.
He felt that Qin Xia was somewhat vulnerable right now.
Qin Xia looked at him, shook her head, and said, "Nothing. It’s just been a long time since I’ve woken up with someone next to me."
Chu Zhengran’s pupils slightly shivered.
"When you were injured, every time I woke up, you were by my side. But it was different then; seeing you brought pain to my heart, sleep was restless, and waking was uncomfortable, with no capacity for anything else," Qin Xia spoke softly and slowly, "Everything wasn’t in a normal state."
"Now it’s different. Nothing’s going on," Qin Xia said. "I just went to sleep when I was tired, woke up, and the room was dark, but there was someone nearby."
"Qin Xia..." Chu Zhengran sat at the edge of the bed, feet touching the floor, facing Qin Xia.
He reached out to hold her fingers but then withdrew his hand.
Qin Xia looked at him and said, "I’m fine. It’s just been so long since I’ve felt this. It’s a bit nostalgic."
"All these years, how did you manage alone?" Chu Zhengran suddenly asked.
Qin Xia’s eyes shifted slightly, "Spent on location filming. So busy, no time to think about anything."
Chu Zhengran watched her.
Qin Xia paused a moment and then said, "Whenever there was a bit of free time, a holiday or something, I’d date a boyfriend to ease the boredom."
Chu Zhengran’s heart had reached a peak of tenderness, but with one line from her, it plummeted.
His emotions were in such turmoil; he wasn’t feeling well at all.
It was like the gears had jammed.
He stared blankly at Qin Xia.
Qin Xia chuckled anew, "What is that expression? Over the years, haven’t I been in many relationships that you knew about?"
Mr. Chu’s expression was no longer blank; it was growing dark.
He knew.
Oh, he knew very well.
Qin Xia had broken up with him so decisively.
She had truly made him feel that she didn’t love him anymore.
He watched her date one guy after another.
All he could do was watch, unable to do anything.
Because he knew, she didn’t love him, and keeping her by his side would only increase her suffering, would only make her unhappy.
But if she could find someone she liked and be happy always.
He would choose the latter.
He couldn’t bear to hurt her.
In comparison, he wanted her to be happy and joyful.
Even if that happiness and joy weren’t given by him.
He thought it was enough.
