The Husband I Loved for Eight Years Never Loved Me-Chapter 69: Didn’t You See Her Husband and Child Are Over There
Chapter 69: Didn’t You See Her Husband and Kid Over There?
"Rachel!"
Rachel Royce looked at her. "I’m fine, don’t worry."
The two of them sat on a bench outside the restroom.
Stella tugged on Rachel Royce’s hand. "Don’t cry, Godmother."
Rachel Royce held Stella’s little hand and smiled. "Godmother’s not crying anymore."
"What on earth happened?" June Jennings asked, her heart full of worry.
Rachel Royce let out a breath and said in a low voice, "I saw my daughter."
June Jennings was shocked.
She understood Rachel’s situation.
"So, you saw your ex—" June Jennings’s voice caught. ’Ex-husband’ didn’t seem right since they weren’t officially divorced. She corrected herself, "Was she with her father? Did she not recognize you?"
Rachel Royce nodded.
She had wrestled countless times with the urge to see Melissa Sterling, but she was terrified of facing the helpless panic of seeing her daughter and being unable to be with her.
She also didn’t want to appear before Tristan Sterling as Rachel Royce, to avoid getting entangled with him again.
At this moment, she felt like a complete failure, too afraid to face reality and only able to run away.
She couldn’t be like June Jennings, who fought for her rights when her marriage failed.
For a moment, June Jennings didn’t know how to comfort Rachel Royce.
They waited for Rachel to compose herself.
"Let’s take Stella somewhere else!"
June Jennings agreed. "Okay."
Then, the two of them left with Stella.
They went to a nearby dessert shop for a bite to eat.
Knowing her godmother was upset, Stella gave her own serving of Jell-O to her.
Rachel Royce was in a much better mood by now.
Afterward, they planned to go to Universal Studios.
On the way there in a taxi, they must have had some truly bad luck today.
The taxi broke down halfway, causing a long traffic jam.
Rachel Royce and June Jennings had no choice but to pay the fare and get out.
"Why don’t I just have my brother come get us? He’s on vacation today with nothing to do anyway. He can look after Stella, and we can have some fun," June Jennings said.
Rachel Royce agreed. "Okay."
June Jennings took out her phone and called Julian Jennings.
Stella, sitting in her stroller, accidentally choked while sipping from her water cup.
Rachel Royce quickly knelt, gently patting Stella’s back with one hand while holding a tissue in the other.
At the same time.
The road had not yet fully cleared.
A Bentley was stuck in the middle of the jam.
A man sat leaning against the window, his side profile sharply defined. He was on his phone, his expression deep and cold as he took a work call.
After the call ended, he put down his phone.
Suddenly,
his gaze fell upon a woman crouching by the side of the road. Her exceptional figure was on full display, and a gentle breeze lifted the ends of her hair. Her fair skin seemed to glow in the sunlight as she gently and carefully wiped spilled water off the child.
Stella suddenly reached out her arms, asking to be held.
Rachel Royce picked Stella up and couldn’t help but plant a kiss on her chubby cheeks. Stella responded with a SMACK of a kiss on Rachel’s face.
The two of them looked at each other and smiled.
Stella laughed out loud with joy.
Rachel Royce smiled too, the bright sun illuminating her beautiful face. Her features were picturesque, her smile like a blooming flower, and her eyes shimmered with a warm tenderness that gave her an alluring charm.
"Tristan!"
Tristan Sterling discreetly withdrew his gaze and turned to look at Claire Ainsworth sitting beside him. His voice was as gentle as usual. "What is it?"
Of course, Claire Ainsworth had seen the person standing by the road.
Although Tristan Sterling’s expression was unchanged, she knew he had just been looking at her.
Suppressing the feelings in her heart, Claire Ainsworth curved her lips into a smile. "Miss Evelynn is indeed very beautiful."
Melissa Sterling was currently lying on a small bed between them, sleeping peacefully. Ever since Melissa’s arrival, she had taken up so much of Tristan Sterling’s time and affection that Claire no longer dared to throw unreasonable tantrums as she had before.
Back then, he had given her the cold shoulder because of Melissa Sterling, and she had thrown a fit. She had assumed Tristan Sterling would continue to indulge her endlessly, but he didn’t. She returned to Portington and deliberately ignored him, even trying to make him jealous with other men, but he only called a few times before going silent.
At that moment, she truly panicked.
Later, she heard from Simon Shaw that besides work, Tristan Sterling was completely devoted to caring for his child, even bringing her to the office.
He clearly disliked his wife, even detested her, yet he loved her child so much. This was something she couldn’t understand.
’Shouldn’t a man love a child only because he loves the woman who bore her?’
But he truly did love Melissa Sterling.
Melissa Sterling had siphoned away Tristan Sterling’s love from her.
She couldn’t accept it.
Later, she had yielded to him—the first time she had ever backed down in her life. They got back together, but the affection and time he gave her were a fraction of what they once were.
But to be with Tristan Sterling, she had to accept Melissa Sterling. She no longer dared to expect him to indulge her every whim as he had before.
Now, at twenty-five, she wanted to marry Tristan Sterling and have a child of their own.
She had hinted at it many times.
But Tristan Sterling had told her explicitly, "Melissa is still young, Claire. I have no plans to remarry for now."
But she really didn’t want to wait any longer.
Melissa Sterling suddenly turned over in her sleep, and Tristan Sterling reached out to adjust her small blanket. He then answered Claire Ainsworth’s earlier comment. "She’s just a pretty face, nothing more." His tone was tinged with dismissive coldness. He looked up at Claire. "What? You think she’s prettier than you?"
Claire Ainsworth huffed, her tone turning coquettish. "Of course not."
Hearing his answer, she felt a little better.
The traffic police soon cleared the congestion.
The Bentley slowly pulled away from the congested area.
Rachel Royce and June Jennings found a boba shop on the roadside to sit and wait for Julian Jennings to arrive.
A little over ten minutes later, Julian Jennings’s car pulled up to the curb.
They all then got into the car.
The car arrived at Universal Studios.
It was a weekend, so the park was crowded.
Julian Jennings got the stroller from the trunk, placed Stella in it, and began pushing her.
June Jennings linked arms with Rachel Royce and looked at her brother. "We’ll be counting on you to help with the kid today, Bro."
Julian Jennings replied, "Just remember my service fee."
"Hmph, so stingy," she said, then turned to Rachel Royce. "With such a cheapskate for a boss, Rachel, you should just quit and stop working for him."
Rachel Royce laughed. "In that case, you can pay my annual salary."
"..."
The group bantered and laughed as they headed toward the park entrance.
However, they had purchased VIP tickets, so they used an exclusive entrance and had a staff member escorting them the whole time, allowing them to skip the lines.
They had a relaxing time making their way through the park.
Rachel Royce and June Jennings went on a shopping spree.
With someone to watch the child and carry their shopping bags, June Jennings and Rachel Royce had a much easier time and took lots of photos together.
In the joyous and bustling atmosphere, Rachel Royce temporarily forgot her sorrow.
Rachel Royce was looking at some merchandise.
Just then, a man approached to hit on her.
June Jennings walked over and said, "Sorry, handsome. Didn’t you see her husband and kid are right over there?"
Rachel Royce was stunned.
The man looked toward Julian Jennings, who was holding Stella a short distance away while browsing some dolls on a shelf.
Immediately, the man lowered his head in embarrassment. "My apologies, my apologies."
After saying that, he turned and quickly left.
Rachel Royce stared at June Jennings and hissed in a low voice, "What are you talking about?"
June Jennings wrapped an arm around her waist. "How many guys have had their eyes glued to you all day? This is the fastest and most effective solution!"
Rachel Royce started to say something, but she suddenly felt a chilling gaze fall upon her and subconsciously glanced to the side.
