The Heiress Spoiled by Four Brothers and One Devilish CEO-Chapter 304 Go live your life properly
Megan chuckled, "Was it some celebrity you fancy?"
Ethan removed his mask and planted a kiss on her cheek. "I ran into Tristan—my daddy! Ethan got to kiss Daddy today. He’s so tall and handsome, even better-looking in person. I kissed him, and now I kissed you, so it’s like you two kissed each other."
Megan frowned. "You saw him? How is he? Has he gained weight?"
"Yeah, Ethan saw him. He’s the most handsome man Ethan has ever laid eyes on." Ethan asked, "Mommy, can’t we reunite with Daddy sooner? Just a little earlier?"
Megan hugged him tightly. "I’m sorry, sweetheart. We really can’t. Just hold on a little longer—only six more months."
"Okay," Ethan replied, his voice tinged with disappointment. He then pulled out an exquisite bracelet from his backpack and fastened it around Megan’s wrist. "It’s a four-leaf clover bracelet. Happy birthday, Mommy."
Tears welled up in Megan’s eyes. "Thank you, baby. But where did you get the money for this?"
"Ethan earned it himself!" He then handed her a check. "And this is from Daddy—his birthday gift to you."
Megan blinked in surprise. "Little one, how did you manage this?"
Just then, Samantha walked in, letting out a light scoff. "This little troublemaker is quite the actor. He told Tristan that I was his mommy and that I had cancer. He put on such a pitiful, tearful act that Tristan ended up donating a hefty sum."
"Did he suspect anything?" Megan asked, puzzled.
"Nope. He was surprisingly quick to hand it over—probably moved by Ethan’s crocodile tears," Samantha replied.
A knot of unease twisted in Megan’s chest. "Something doesn’t feel right. He’s not the type to fall for tricks so easily. We need to pack up and leave. I’ve got a bad feeling about this."
She began hurriedly gathering their belongings, her movements frantic.
Samantha scratched her head. "You don’t actually think Tristan could track us down here, do you?"
Just as she uttered those words, hurried footsteps suddenly echoed from the doorway.
Megan grabbed Ethan’s hand and dashed toward the basement. The basement door clicked shut just as the main door swung open.
Tristan and Cameron Brooks strode in.
Samantha froze, realization dawning—she hadn’t noticed she’d been followed. "You... you trailed me?"
Tristan took in Samantha’s stunned expression and smirked. "Since when do nuns have sons?"
"That’s my relative’s child," Samantha countered quickly.
Tristan let out a derisive chuckle. "Oh? And your relatives just happened to drop by the convent for a visit?"
"Y-yes!"
Cameron Brooks interjected, his tone sharp. "Monastics don’t lie, Abbess. Deceit isn’t exactly virtuous."
Samantha had lost count of how many precepts she’d broken over the years.
Lying about buying meat, hiding the real purpose behind purchasing baby supplies, misleading those searching for Megan, even deceiving devotees—she’d done it all.
Clenching her jaw, she doubled down. "It really is my relative’s child."
"Then why didn’t you correct Ethan when she called you her mommy and claimed you had cancer?" Tristan’s smile turned razor-thin. "Why stay silent when I handed you that check?"
Samantha knew the truth—one lie always demanded a thousand more to bury it.
At this moment, she was truly at a loss for words.
Samantha could only retrieve the check from Ethan’s backpack and hand it back to Tristan. "I’m truly sorry, sir. Here’s your check."
Tristan didn’t even reach for it. Instead, his gaze swept across the room, taking in every detail. Women’s belongings, children’s items—his brow furrowed slightly as he picked up a comb from the table, noting the strands of silver hair tangled in its teeth. Could an elderly woman be living here?
Samantha, quick to read his expression, offered a smile. "My mother came to stay at the temple for a few days with my nephew. My sister-in-law is battling cancer and has been undergoing chemotherapy, so my mother brought the child here to pray for blessings. As for the check... I had no choice but to keep it. My brother’s family is struggling, and they desperately needed the money."
Tristan considered her words for a moment before speaking. "Keep the check. If you face any difficulties, don’t hesitate to contact me."
With that, he turned and left, Cameron Brooks following close behind.
Samantha trailed after them, seeing them all the way to the gate until their figures faded into the distance. She shut the door, took a few deep breaths to steady herself, then hurried back inside. Swiftly, she lifted the hidden panel leading to the basement.
Reaching down, she pulled Ethan up, then extended a hand to help Megan climb out as well.
"That was way too close. He almost found us," Samantha exhaled, setting Ethan down and pressing a hand to her chest as if to calm her racing heart.
Megan sat on the edge of the bed, still shaken. "He might have already figured it out—he just didn’t want to force me to come forward. I can’t stay here. I need to leave."
Ethan, who had been rummaging through his backpack, immediately ran to Megan’s side. "Mommy, where are we going?"
Megan gently stroked his soft hair, gazing into his wide, dark eyes. "How about traveling the world with me?"
"Really?" Ethan’s eyes sparkled with excitement at the idea. "But if we use any information, Daddy will track us down. What’ll we do then? We still have six months before we can be together."
"How about we switch roles for a change?"
Ethan’s eyes sparkled with mischief. "Now that’s an idea! Finally, I get to leave this nunnery!"
"You little rascal! No sentimentality at all? Seems like you can’t wait to fly away this instant!"
Ethan threw himself into Samantha’s arms. "Ethan’s just teasing! Of course I’ll miss you all. But we’ll be back in half a year, and then we can see each other again. After all, all good things must come to an end, right?"
Samantha knelt down and hugged him tightly. "You must listen to your mommy and not make her angry. Look at her—so young, yet her hair’s already turned silver because of you."
Ethan pouted. "There you go again with that talk. No wonder you couldn’t find a man and ended up a nun. Ouch! Mommy, I’m sorry..."
Megan yanked his ear. "You really are a handful! Go pack your things—we’re leaving right away!"
Hearing they were about to depart, Lily and Ivy Blue grew emotional. After all, they had spent four and a half years together.
Lily pinched Ethan’s cheek affectionately. "Ethan, I watched you come into this world and grow up. You better not forget me."
Ethan nodded solemnly. "I won’t. Not ever."
Ivy’s nose tingled with sadness. "Ethan, don’t forget me either!"
Their sorrow rubbed off on Ethan, and he burst into tears. "Why are you guys like this? It’s not like I’m never coming back!"
Megan looked at Samantha, Lily, and Ivy, her own cheeks streaked with tears. "Four and a half years have flown by in the blink of an eye. Without you, Ethan wouldn’t have been born safely, nor would he have grown up so happy. These years with him have been peaceful, and I’m truly grateful for your kindness. We’ll keep our promise—we’ll return in half a year."
Samantha wiped her tears. "What’s the point of coming back? You’ve been apart from your man for so long. Go live your life properly."
Megan nodded. "Ethan and I will visit you again."
After dinner, Megan and Ethan packed their essential electronics and a few sets of clothes, then descended the mountain with Samantha.
