The Heaven-Cursed Costs Life, But I Have Infinite Life-Chapter 51: Meeting Black Widow Again, Late-Night Fight
"Allen, let’s eat first, and we can explore later," Lilia said, her mood instantly lifted as she clutched a pile of gold coins in her arms.
She had noticed all sorts of strange and weird items for sale here.
Allen had no objections. They headed to a rather impressive hotel.
He deliberately scanned the other guests but didn’t see Theron anywhere, finally letting out a sigh of relief.
Winterfell was so vast and bustling that bumping into him so easily was unlikely.
They chose a private room and ordered a lavish spread of food and drinks, diving in with gusto.
"This Winterfell isn’t without its merits. At least the food is delicious," Lilia mumbled, her mouth full of food.
Allen rolled his eyes. "Just look at how much this meal cost. Over a hundred gold coins. That’s enough for a normal family to live on for a whole year!"
"Yeah, I guess you’re right," Lilia said, taking a vicious bite of her food as she thought about the gold she had just spent.
...
Satisfied and full, the pair decided against heading straight to the Assassins’ Guild. It was still daytime, and it would be safer to go at night.
Instead, Lilia dragged Allen out to wander the streets. Every time she saw something strange or unique, she wanted to buy it.
In just a short while, she had picked out over a dozen outfits, along with countless small, exquisite accessories.
Allen had become Lilia’s servant, carrying all the heavy bags and bundles. If he hadn’t secretly stashed them into his Spatial Storage equipment when pedestrians weren’t looking, he never would have managed it.
"Hey Lilia, how about we find a place to rest?" Allen asked, looking at her with wide, excited eyes. He felt that shopping with her was more exhausting than fighting in the wilds.
"It’s still early! What’s the point of resting? Come on, I need to buy you a few new outfits, pick out some suitable gear, and grab some camping equipment too..." Lilia ticked off a long list of items on her fingers.
Allen just felt a wave of despair. At this rate, they wouldn’t be done before nightfall.
They strolled through the bustling streets. Lilia stopped at every single shop, worried that she’d miss something valuable if she didn’t check it out.
Allen felt completely drained. In fact, he almost wished they’d run into Theron, just so he could escape this torture for a while.
...
As dusk fell and the city lights flickered on.
Allen slumped against the street, refusing to move an inch.
"Allen, admit it, you’re just weak," Lilia said, hands on her hips, looking at him with pure disgust.
Allen glared at her but was too exhausted to even argue.
"Miss Lilia, you’ve been shopping for a whole day without stopping. Aren’t you tired?" he asked, baffled.
"Not at all. There are so many more shops to visit," Lilia replied, her eyes sparkling with excitement. She scanned the brightly lit streets, bustling with people.
It was somehow livelier at night than during the day.
"Let’s get going and do our actual business," Allen said, finally snapping. He was truly terrified now. He grabbed a protesting Lilia and dragged her toward the Assassins’ Guild.
No argument allowed. If they let her keep shopping, it would take all day and all night to finish.
They changed into black clothes to hide their identities. Following the guard’s directions, they found a narrow, pitch-black alley.
A hidden Assassins’ Guild mark was scrawled on the corner of the wall.
One after the other, they slipped into the alley.
It was a confusing maze of twists and turns, but every turn had an Assassins’ Guild marker to guide them.
Allen felt dizzy from all the winding paths before he finally found the entrance.
"Stop!" A figure appeared suddenly, blocking their way. "The Assassins’ Guild is off-limits to outsiders."
"We are Killers too," Allen said, knowing the rules. He pulled out his Killer token.
Lilia handed over hers as well.
"So, you’re the Heavenly King?" The guard frowned deeply, his expression growing dark as he looked at Allen’s token.
"Is there a problem?" Allen asked calmly.
Allen was confused. This was his first time in Winterfell, and he hadn’t offended anyone. Besides, the Assassins’ Guild and the Church of Light were bitter enemies, so this man couldn’t be from the Church.
"Hmph!"
The man scoffed and tossed the token back to Allen. "Kid, the ’Heavenly King’ is a legendary figure. Are you even worthy of using that title? Listen to me: don’t reveal your identity, or you won’t make it out of the Assassins’ Guild alive. Go ahead and enter."
He stepped aside, revealing a hidden passage.
"Thanks," Allen said, pulling Lilia inside the Assassins’ Guild. But his mind was swirling with questions.
He noticed the ’Heavenly King’ shared many similarities with him.
Earlier, a priest had hinted that the Heavenly King might also be a Heaven-Cursed one who didn’t lose lifespan when casting Forbidden Spells.
Allen hadn’t believed it at the time, but he was now certain the Heavenly King must possess a Cultivation Method like the Art of Immortality that extended lifespan.
And then there was Lucas. His fragmented words suggested a connection between Allen and the Heavenly King.
Allen couldn’t help but think about when the Blackspire Hell’s Gate opened. He remembered the Demon King that appeared then—the feeling of being blood-related was so real...
"Allen," Lilia gently tugged his sleeve and pointed to a seat in the corner.
They had entered the Assassins’ Guild, which was brightly lit. Groups of people stood in clusters, whispering quietly.
It was far more bustling and magnificent than the one in Blackspire.
Allen looked at the spot Lilia indicated.
In the dim light, a figure sat alone in the corner, wrapped entirely in a black robe, quietly reading a book.
Allen’s eyes widened. Was he this lucky?
It was Black Widow! He couldn’t believe he met her the moment he stepped into the Assassins’ Guild.
"Let’s go."
Allen said, pulling Lilia toward the corner.
There were a few tables and chairs nearby, yet no one dared to get close.
It seemed everyone knew her identity and kept their distance.
Allen and Lilia sat down without a care in the world. The surrounding glances were filled with suspicion and a touch of schadenfreude.
Fighting was forbidden inside the Assassins’ Guild. But if you could kill someone quietly without a trace, they wouldn’t lift a finger.
Black Widow was the queen of silent poisonings. She could even control the exact moment her victims would collapse and die.
No one dared to mess with her.
Feeling her vision darken as shadows fell over her, Black Widow frowned. She lifted her eyes from the book in her hands and glared coldly at the two intruders.
"Hmm? You two?"
Her eyes widened in disbelief. She knew exactly who they were. She couldn’t believe her eyes.
They should have already been dead from her poison, yet here they stood, perfectly fine.
"Ugly, surprised?" Lilia sneered. Knowing Allen could cure any poison, she no longer feared this woman.
"Hmph. It seems I underestimated you," Black Widow said, her voice icy. She felt on high alert. This was the first time someone had survived her deadly toxins.
"Spit it out. What do you want?" She closed her book and looked at them coldly.
Allen got straight to the point. "I want the Lightning Skill Book in your hands. I’m willing to pay for it."
"Heh." Black Widow let out a cruel laugh. "You’re definitely from the Church of Light. If you want my things, prove you have the skill to take them."
Without waiting for an answer, she turned and walked away, leaving the Assassins’ Guild.
Allen frowned. He didn’t rush to follow her immediately.
"What’s wrong?" Lilia asked, confused.
"Poisoned," Allen said flatly. The Art of Immortality was already churning fast, neutralizing the toxin.
He had been watching Black Widow’s every move, but he hadn’t seen her strike or throw anything. He still couldn’t figure out how she did it.
"Can you cure it?" Lilia asked, worried. That woman’s methods were too strange; she hadn’t even noticed anything.
"I’m fine. Let’s go see what she’s up to." Curious now, Allen followed, dragging Lilia behind him. They left the Assassins’ Guild.
Several Killers noticed the commotion and silently followed behind them.
In the deep, dark alley, Black Widow saw Allen step out. Turning around, she walked deeper into the shadows.
Allen wasn’t fazed in the least and followed right behind her. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
Soon, Black Widow stopped in a desolate, crumbling courtyard. It was long abandoned, with no one living there anymore.
"Alright, just tell me how I can get the things you’re holding," Allen said calmly.
"Hehe. You’re the first person to dare try and steal from me," Black Widow sneered, her gaze turning icy as she looked aside. "Anyone who wants to stay alive, get out of here!"
From a dark corner, several figures appeared, terrified, before scrambling away in a panic.
The area fell into silence. Once Black Widow was sure no one else was around, she turned back to Allen and Lilia. "I guess I’ll have to see what you’re made of to take what’s mine."
As she spoke, she moved slightly. Several glinting bolts shot out from within her flowing black robes—hidden weapons.
Allen was already prepared. He pulled Lilia behind him, summoned his Saber, and slashed at the incoming projectiles.
Boom! Boom!
The weapons exploded, filling the air with black mist and a sickening, overpowering stench.
This was a far more potent toxin than before.
"Stay back!" Allen didn’t dare be careless. He pushed Lilia aside and charged straight through the fog, heading right for Black Widow.
She didn’t flinch. She raised her hand and tossed a handful of white powder into the air.
Allen felt a burning sting in his eyes, and his vision went blurry.
He was startled; this woman’s tricks were truly bizarre.
But it only lasted a split second. As soon as the toxin was neutralized, his vision cleared. He had already closed the distance and stood right in front of Black Widow.
"Still alive?"
Black Widow looked panicked for the first time. A dozen colorful pills suddenly appeared in her hand, and she threw them all at Allen at once.
Boom! Boom!
Various colored mists erupted. Allen’s figure was swallowed by the haze, followed by a fit of violent coughing.
"Hmph, kid, you asked for it," Black Widow scoffed, turning to look at Lilia hiding in the distance. "You’ve countered so many of my powders. Soon, you’ll be nothing but bone dust and a puddle of blood."
"Where did you get the confidence?"
A calm voice cut through the noise. Allen stepped out of the fog, waving his hand in disgust.
"Huh?" Black Widow’s eyes went wide. She stumbled back a step, unable to believe her eyes. "Y-you... what kind of monster are you?"
She was panicking. Her poison had never failed, even against powerful monsters. It could take them down in an instant.
But Allen was unharmed. He showed absolutely no signs of poisoning, which made no sense.
Even a dead body would eventually rot away from her deadly toxins.
