Chapter 718: Chapter 718 Upright in Front of Others, Devious Behind Their Backs_1

Xu Sanwang slinked away, his forlorn expression making him seem suddenly much older.

But neither Li Qing nor Tang Rou felt any pity for this famously honest man.

Previously, Li Qing actually had a good impression of Xu Sanwang because he was warm to people, treating everyone with extreme caution. Aside from his love for small advantages, there weren’t any significant faults to pick on him for.

Yet this time, he had witnessed everything with his own eyes.

If it were another era, decades ago, his treatment of his daughter-in-law wouldn’t have been wrong, as that was the norm for everyone.

Daughters-in-law entering the family often endured such humiliating treatment.

Serving the in-laws, taking on all sorts of chores inside and outside the house, and not even being allowed to eat at the table—such was almost normal.

But such behaviors wouldn’t stand nowadays.

He still clung to the same education he had received as a child, which now seemed rather detestable.

In their family’s view, having spent thirty thousand to marry Tang Rou, she should be treated and ordered around like a mule or a horse.

Even as an outsider, Li Qing couldn’t stand watching such things.

After Xu Sanwang left, Li Qing said with a faint smile, "We seized the opportunity pretty well today. Had it been a bit later, your sly father-in-law would have caught us in the act. Did you see his big axe? It was really quite scary."

Tang Rou’s stern face softened slightly as she glanced at Li Qing and asked with a light laugh, "Were you scared?"

"With an axe that big, how could I not be scared? If I had been even a moment later, that axe would have chopped me instead," Li Qing replied. "I don’t know which bastard pointed Xu Sanwang in the right direction; his timing was just too perfect."

"Even if he had caught us, it wouldn’t have mattered. I had already told them all those words last night," Tang Rou said coolly. "They just think that as long as they stop their son from taking out the marriage certificate, I can do nothing to them and won’t be able to divorce."

Li Qing nodded. "I could see that. They really are of that mind."

"You must have been just talking and haven’t really found a good lawyer, right? Do you want me to introduce one to you? This person could definitely be considered top-tier in our legal circle. Your case in his hands should be resolved very quickly."

Tang Rou suddenly looked at Li Qing with a deep gaze, "I do need a lawyer, but... if I keep asking for your help, I won’t be able to repay this favor. My body probably isn’t worth that much."

"No problem, you can just let me sleep over frequently," Li Qing teased with a smile. "Then carry out the plans you’ve got in mind, and perhaps I’ll end up owing you a favor in return."

Pink colored Tang Rou’s cheeks as she said softly, "Then I’ll have to trouble you."

"It’s nothing much; we’ve already slept together, so why be so polite with me?" Li Qing said, laughing.

As he spoke, he took out his phone and contacted Zhang Chuan.

The phone barely rang before Zhang Chuan answered, almost instantaneously.

"Mr. Li, do you finally have something for me to do?" Zhang Chuan’s voice was a mix of excitement and eagerness.

Li Qing was momentarily speechless; was this guy so eager to return a favor?

"Lawyer Zhang, the way you put it, I really don’t know what to say," Li Qing said with an amused smile. "But actually, I do have a matter that I would like to ask for Lawyer Zhang’s assistance with."

"Mr. Li, just give your command. Even if it’s a major case, I can find a way to secure the best interests for you. I might not have much confidence in other things, but as for this, rest assured, I am quite confident," Zhang Chuan said boldly.

That must be the confidence of a top lawyer.

Li Qing smiled, "The matter isn’t that complicated. It’s just a divorce case. I don’t know any other lawyers, so I have to trouble you, a renowned expert."

"Mr. Li, that’s a bit of an underestimate. Even though I prefer major cases, anything for Mr. Li, even trivial disputes with neighbors, is a big deal to me," Zhang Chuan laughed heartily.

Li Qing couldn’t help but laugh. It felt great to be valued like this—all thanks to the favors he had accumulated.

He then detailed Tang Rou’s case to Zhang Chuan.

Upon hearing it, Zhang Chuan immediately proposed a specific plan.

"It seems Lawyer Zhang already has a plan in mind. When are you available? I can have this young lady come to see you to fill in the details," Li Qing said.

Zhang Chuan replied with a laugh, "I’m free anytime. Mr. Li, just call me when you’re available. Also, it’s been a while since I’ve seen you, so I’ll be the host and treat you to a simple meal."

Li Qing hadn’t planned on going himself, but hearing Zhang Chuan’s invitation and considering that he didn’t have much going on lately, he replied, "In that case, let’s meet in the county town for lunch; we can have lunch together."

"Sure, sure, I’ll make a reservation in advance. Mr. Li, don’t bother driving. We’ll take a good drink at lunch, and I’ll have someone send you back afterwards," Zhang Chuan immediately arranged.

Li Qing chuckled to himself, What car do I have for you to tell me not to drive?

After agreeing, Li Qing hung up the call.

"I’ll pay for our lunch. I can afford that much," Tang Rou said.

She hadn’t heard all of Li Qing’s conversation with Zhang Chuan—only that Li Qing was going to have a meal with Zhang Chuan—and assumed Li Qing was the host, already eager to offer something in return.

"Zhang Chuan is treating us. What are you paying for?" Li Qing laughed. "Besides, you probably can’t afford even one of his meals."

"It’s just one meal, how expensive could it be?" Tang Rou pursed her lips. "Don’t hide it from me. If I find out you’re paying, and you won’t let me cover it, I won’t work for you anymore. You can forget about sleeping with me too—I’ll just go to the town and open one of those red-light establishments."

"No problem, I’ll pay to sleep with you," Li Qing laughed heartily.

This girl was truly stubborn, almost as if something was off with her.

Tang Rou tilted her chin up haughtily, "Even if you pay, I won’t sleep with you!"

Li Qing laughed out loud, "All right, but I’m not lying to you—it’s his turn to host today. Let’s go."

It was getting close to noon. By the time they arrived in the county town, it would probably be time for lunch.

Tang Rou muttered softly and nodded.

Li Qing then locked up the small store, called his sister-in-law to explain, and took Tang Rou toward the town in a tricycle.
