Chapter 402: Chapter 402: A Complete Fallout_1

Li Qing was shocked to discover that they seemed to really have not noticed that he had killed someone.

Lü Zong and Gong Ge’s reactions were one thing.

But even the middle-aged man from the Qi family didn’t confront him right away. Instead, he pinched Qi Sanpin’s philtrum, tried his breathing, and even made an emergency call.

Li Qing forced himself to calm down, but the unease and anxiety in his heart remained.

His hands were trembling violently.

He had actually killed someone!

Lü Zong walked over, also checked Qi Sanpin’s breathing, and chuckled, "With breathing like that, there’s hardly any difference between him being alive or dead. I think you’d better start arranging a burial site for him."

"If you can’t find a suitable place, I can help you out for free. I know of several feng shui treasures perfect for burying such ill-fated goods. Hell, I could even dig the grave for you at no cost."

The middle-aged man from the Qi family stared coldly at Lü Zong and snapped, "Mr. Lü, it’s best to leave some leeway when dealing with others, don’t be so aggressive."

Gong Ge immediately retorted, "Isn’t it your Qi family who’s being aggressive?"

"Show some conscience, you old turtle. Our Mr. Lü is completely well-intentioned."

"Mr. Lü, you better think carefully. Do you really want to oppose the Qi family to the end?" The middle-aged man from the Qi family had a frosty face, practically spitting out the words through clenched teeth.

"I have no intention of opposing you. In fact, I hope for sincere cooperation, but not only have you gone back on your word, you’re also driving us into a corner. Don’t blame us for being ruthless then; life or death, it’s all about skill!" Lü Zong coldly swept a glance at the middle-aged man from the Qi family and left the conference room straight away.

"Get this half-dead thing moved out of my place as soon as possible. It’s newly renovated here, and I don’t want to be tainted by the bad luck of a corpse!" he added just before leaving.

"Lü, fine, we’ll wait and see!" the middle-aged man from the Qi family shouted fiercely.

Li Qing glanced at the unconscious Qi Sanpin and followed Lü Zong’s steps out of the conference room.

"Mr. Lü, is he dead or not?" Li Qing asked uneasily in a low voice.

"Not dead, but his breathing is very weak. I guess he isn’t far from death," Lü Zong replied indifferently. "He might have a heart condition or something. Got excited and had an episode all of a sudden."

Li Qing felt somewhat relieved inside.

He had heard from Lü Zong that Qi Sanpin seemed still to be breathing.

But he had always been somewhat incredulous.

How could there still be breathing after Black Arrow had pierced through Qi Sanpin’s forehead?

But now that he had confirmation from Lü Zong himself, Li Qing didn’t want to delve into why the man wasn’t dead.

As long as the man wasn’t dead, that was enough!

Back in Lü Zong’s office, he said to Li Qing with a grave expression, "Qingzi, go back and prepare well. We’ll halt construction for now. Try to go out as little as possible during this time and call me if anything comes up."

"The Qi family are no saints; if they’re dead set on targeting us, it could really be troublesome."

"But don’t worry too much. They definitely wouldn’t dare to kill, but other means, that’s hard to say," Lü Zong continued. "Anyway, it has come to this. If it comes to the worst, we’ll fight to the bitter end, and there’s nothing to fear."

Li Qing suddenly felt somewhat guilty.

He had just begun to see some success in his days; he didn’t want a fight to the bitter end.

Lü Zong chuckled and patted Li Qing’s shoulder, "Relax for now, a fight to the bitter end is just the worst-case scenario."

"Things may not turn out that bad. The Qi family seems to have forgotten what I made my fortune on. When it comes to underhanded tactics, they may not be able to outdo me. My head is filled with half the penal code. I know very well what can and cannot be done."

"It’s just that dealing with them publicly is a bit difficult, but who ends up winning is still uncertain! With me in front, you won’t run into major trouble."

Li Qing felt a mixture of emotions upon hearing these words.

But this is also a fact.

For a large family like the Qi Family, he might only be an eyesore of a little shrimp.

"Lü Zong, if there’s anything I can help with, just say the word!" Li Qing said earnestly.

Lü Zong burst into hearty laughter, "Don’t worry, I won’t be shy about asking."

"You should go back to the construction site and make arrangements first. I’ll let you know in a timely manner if there’s any movement from the Qi Family."

"Alright!"

Li Qing nodded, his emotions complex as he left the Impression Hotel.

This unexpected slap in the face had left him somewhat dazed.

But the work that needed to be done still needed to be done.

After returning to the town, Li Qing immediately rushed to the construction site to announce a temporary halt to work.

Tang Jianmin asked in bewilderment, "Qingzi, we were working just fine, why are we suddenly stopping?"

"There’s been a complication, the main contractor has gone back on their word. We have to stop until things are negotiated," Li Qing explained. "This is related to everyone’s money, continuing without pausing might result in wasted effort!"

Tang Jianmin’s face immediately showed displeasure, "Isn’t this just toying with us? We already started work and now we just stop?"

"Uncle Tang, I didn’t expect those big corporations to pull such a stunt. I’ll hold a dinner in a few days to apologize to everyone!" Li Qing said helplessly, knowing there would definitely be complaints.

Tang Jianmin waved his hand, "I’m not blaming you, I’m cursing those bastards above."

"Forget the dinner, you haven’t made a dime but you’re already down tens of thousands. There’s no need for that, I’ll explain to the others."

Li Qing felt a sudden warmth in his heart, not expecting Tang Jianmin to be considering his situation at this time.

"It’s nothing, Uncle Tang. The dinner still needs to happen, but I’ll trouble you with convincing the others," Li Qing replied.

"That’s no big deal," Tang Jianmin chuckled. "As long as we can resume work on the site later, it’s fine."

Li Qing’s expression became pensive, feeling very uncertain about this matter.

Now that things with the Qi Family had turned sour, the likelihood of resuming work on the site wasn’t great.

"I will do my best to secure it," Li Qing said.

That was all he could offer for an explanation.

He decided to assuage for now and then assess the situation.

Telling everyone outright that the site might be closed for good would only cause more resentment.

Just after settling the matters at the construction site, Li Qing received a call from Lu Furong.

"You should come over if you’re free now, I have something to discuss with you," she said.

Lu Furong’s tone remained as cold and blunt as it ever was, as if she had swallowed several dozen tons of rebar.

Li Qing, once again, rode his bike to Secretary Zhou’s house.

Lu Furong was still dressed in the same nightgown as before when she opened the door for Li Qing.

Her bleary-eyed appearance suggested she had just woken up.

"Is Secretary Zhou at home?" Li Qing asked at the door.

Lu Furong gave Li Qing a meaningful look and shook her head, "He’s away on a business trip."
