The Grants: Choosing One Between The Two-Chapter 88: Henry Jennings Uses Summers to Agitate Ethan
Meridia Hospital.
Ethan Grant sat outside the emergency room, his entire demeanor was heavy and somber.
"Mr. Grant..." Christopher Carter didn’t dare to approach, Ethan Grant was a bit intimidating at this moment.
Christopher had only seen Ethan Grant in this state twice, once at his mother’s funeral, and the second time was now.
Christopher understood Ethan Grant well; they had some family ties, and since childhood, he’d known that Ethan was always the genius and good kid in others’ eyes.
But from the first glance, Christopher knew Ethan was not truly happy.
He had the ability, the talent, the strength, but he had never really been happy.
Being born into the Grant Family, the responsibilities and pressures on him seemed much greater than ordinary people.
"Henry Jennings... put Young Master Jayden in the hospital, Melody Crowe already knows, and Mr. Arthur Grant is on the way, this matter... might escalate. If the Grant Family insists on blaming someone, they won’t dare to directly blame Henry Jennings, they might target Yvette Aston."
Christopher spoke quietly, preparing Ethan mentally.
The Jennings Family of Montville and the Grant Family were major partners, not to mention that Melody Crowe and Jayden Grant would gladly curry favor with the Jennings Family to vie for the Grant Group’s inheritance, they wouldn’t directly blame Henry Jennings.
But they would certainly make Yvette Aston the scapegoat.
"Let them try it." Ethan Grant’s voice was deep, his eyes dark and ominous.
"Mr. Grant... do you really need to avoid suspicion in this matter?" Christopher gasped.
Ethan Grant not getting involved seemed the best course.
If Ethan Grant got involved, it would be hard to extricate himself.
Melody Crowe and Jayden Grant had been making moves for years, waiting to catch Ethan Grant in a compromising position.
"Avoid suspicion? Ha..." Ethan Grant sneered, glancing at Christopher. "There are surveillance cameras in Caden Summers’ garage, have him retrieve the footage and submit it to the police. If he hasn’t learned his lesson in Montville, then he should learn it well this time."
"And the footage of President Jennings hitting Young Master Jayden..." Christopher trembled.
Ethan Grant was indeed declaring war on Melody Crowe.
Sending his own brother into the police station would be a disgrace to the Grant Family and Arthur Grant.
In doing this, in the Grant Family...
Arthur Grant would certainly be furious, especially with Melody Crowe whispering in his ear.
Christopher took a deep breath, not daring to say more.
"Hand everything over to the police, Melody Crowe doesn’t dare provoke Henry Jennings." Ethan Grant knew that Melody Crowe would give Henry Jennings and the Jennings Family this face.
"Mr. Grant, are you doing this for Yvette Aston, or... taking this opportunity to tear off Melody Crowe’s mask?" Christopher hesitated for a long time, finally lowering his voice. "You’ve endured for so many years, it’s not necessary to ruin your plans over Yvette Aston."
Ethan Grant was silent, frowning slightly.
Christopher didn’t inquire further, turning to handle matters.
"Mr. Grant, is the Grant Family directly aiming for her death this time?" Lucas Lockwood walked over with test results, speaking solemnly while handing the lab sheet to Ethan Grant. "She has congenital heart disease, the Aston Family is still waiting for her to donate a kidney; at this rate, forget donating a kidney, survival is the issue."
Ethan Grant’s face darkened, looking up at Lucas. "What do you mean, donating a kidney?"
"Doesn’t Charlotte Summers need a kidney transplant? They insist it has to be from Yvette Aston." Lucas tucked his hands in his pockets, voice sarcastic. "They say it’s Yvette Aston’s debt to the Aston Family."
"Is the Aston Family insane?" Ethan Grant rubbed his temples. "How is she?"
"Not dead yet, but who knows about next time. The injuries on her neck appear recent, and they’ve really gone too far." Lucas had seen much life and death, but hadn’t seen someone alive yet so tormented.
"She also has severe depression, with noticeable somatic symptoms, and I’ve reviewed her records, she’s undergone many MECT treatments, you probably can’t grasp her situation, you could liken her to a walking corpse."
Lucas checked the time, then turned to leave.
Ethan Grant stared at Yvette Aston’s lab report for a long time in silence.
Insanity...
What on earth has this woman been through?
...
"No, no... don’t touch me, don’t touch me..."
Yvette Aston lay in the hospital bed, not resting peacefully.
The excessive blood loss led to constant ringing in her ears and dizziness.
Her left ear was deaf, she seemed sealed off from the world, like someone trapped inside a glass jar.
"Mr. Grant... these are the remaining tests, take a look, severe malnutrition." The young nurse was shocked; how could someone starve in this day and age?
This extreme deficiency in vitamin D2 would lead to her bones practically falling apart.
Ethan Grant stood by the bed, glanced at Yvette Aston. "Understood."
"Mr. Grant, she’s quite pitiable, during the resuscitation, her heart stopped, she almost... didn’t make it." The nurse whispered before lowering her head and leaving.
Ethan Grant’s deep gaze fell on Yvette Aston.
Fearless of death...
Yet scared to resist.
If she had no worries, to what extent would she go?
"Water..."
Yvette Aston was parched, she wanted to drink water.
Ethan Grant hesitated, never having cared for a patient before, he was unsure how to proceed.
He moistened a cotton swab, carefully wetting Yvette Aston’s lips.
"Water..." Yvette Aston was intensely thirsty, slowly opened her eyes, wanting water.
"You’ve lost too much blood, you can’t drink a lot right now, hang in there." Ethan Grant’s voice was soothing, at least to Yvette Aston, it felt reassuring.
"It’s you again..." Yvette Aston weakly smiled.
It’s Ethan Grant again, am I dreaming?
Now, she truly couldn’t repay him, because his clothes once again bore her bloodstains.
Ethan Grant looked at Yvette Aston, his heart tight.
In this state, she could still smile.
For some reason, Ethan Grant found Yvette Aston’s smile beautiful.
"Get some rest." Ethan Grant softly spoke.
Yvette Aston slowly closed her eyes, drifting in and out of sleep.
"Don’t leave..." Yvette Aston’s slender but weak fingers gently grasped Ethan Grant’s wrist, finding some courage, as if a drowning person clutching at a lifeline.
"I’m not leaving." Ethan Grant sat beside her, not pulling her hand away.
She held tightly to Ethan, falling into a deep sleep.
Once, Christopher entered, startled to see Ethan Grant, mentioned the police had taken Jayden Grant, then promptly stood guard outside the room.
"President Jennings..."
Henry Jennings arrived, holding Summers.
Caden Summers also came, following behind.
"Yvette Aston isn’t life-threatening, try not to worry too much." Christopher patted Caden’s shoulder.
Caden nodded. "Thank you."
Christopher said nothing more.
Henry Jennings entered the room, seeing Ethan Grant sitting beside the bed, with Yvette Aston’s hand firmly clutching Ethan’s wrist.
"Mom..." Summers’ eyes welled with tears, calling out for her.
Ethan Grant instinctively reached out as if to hold Summers, but the hand paused and lowered halfway.
Henry Jennings was Summers’ biological father.
"Mr. Grant can go and rest now." Henry Jennings frowned as he spoke.
He didn’t want Yvette Aston to have a second option besides him.
"Apparently, that’s not possible now." Ethan Grant’s gaze fell on Yvette’s hand; she held on, refusing to let go.
"Ethan Grant..." Henry Jennings’ face darkened, speaking in a low voice. "Don’t pull Yvette Aston into your family’s internal conflicts, she’s already like this, don’t use her."
Henry Jennings knew very well Ethan Grant’s intentions.
