The Grants: Choosing One Between The Two-Chapter 78: Yvette Aston Will Never Compromise Again
Caden Summers frowned at the person opposite. "What do you want to do?"
Stellan Aston tried to enter the house, but was stopped by Caden Summers.
"Stellan Aston! I advise you not to show up at my house alone." Caden Summers said, his anger thick and palpable, ready to act.
Stellan Aston, as a rich young master, wouldn’t stand a chance without his bodyguards.
Stellan Aston clenched his fingers. "Are you sure she hasn’t returned?"
"You forced her to leave Meridia. How could she possibly be back? My nephew is asleep. Don’t go crazy here. If you want to find someone, go look elsewhere." Caden Summers pushed Stellan Aston out.
Stellan Aston lowered his eyes, his breathing somewhat rapid.
Yvette Aston hasn’t returned. Even the people he has in Montville haven’t found her. She must be in trouble...
"Young Master Aston, whether you believe it or not, I must tell you again: our family has never mistreated Charlotte Summers. I have never harmed her. Yvette was swapped away by my mother when she was just a baby. All along, she’s been a victim. There’s no need to treat her this way."
Caden Summers grabbed Stellan Aston by the collar, his eyes bloodshot and slightly out of control. "Please, be humane."
Stellan Aston shoved Caden Summers away, his anger equally intense. "Caden, you’re in no position to make me trust you. Charlotte is kind-hearted. She wouldn’t ruin her reputation to frame you! If you had treated her well, would her depression be so severe that she’d be on the verge of suicide?"
"I’m telling you, Caden, between choosing you and my sister Charlotte Summers, I will always choose to believe my sister." Stellan Aston opened the car door and sped off.
Caden Summers raised his hand to rub his eyebrows, cursing in frustration. "Idiot..."
These wealthy people, their brains are all eaten by dogs.
Taking a deep breath, Caden first locked the iron gate, then ran back inside to pack. "Yvette, wake Summers up. We are leaving tonight."
Yvette Aston curled up in the corner, her face pale with fear. "Has Stellan left?"
Caden glanced outside. "He’s gone for now, but there’s no telling if he’ll come back. There’s nothing worth taking, so we leave tonight. Crime must be paid for; Claudia Bell reaps what she’s sown. We will not compromise or reconcile."
Yvette hugged her legs, crying in grievance.
Last night, she truly thought she was going to die.
She was terrified, truly terrified.
"Don’t be afraid. I won’t leave you alone anymore. If we’re running, we run together as a family. You shouldn’t bear this alone." Caden’s voice was heavy with emotion, his eyes reddening.
A man shouldn’t easily cry, but his heart ached for Yvette.
During this time, Caden has constantly been worried about Yvette, fearing she couldn’t eat or sleep well by herself.
This time, no matter what, he couldn’t let Yvette escape alone.
"Brother..." Yvette looked up at Caden, her voice choked with emotion.
Caden went over to gently comfort her. "Don’t be scared. Even if the sky falls, I’ve got you."
"Brother... Summers’ condition keeps recurring. He needs treatment... Henry Jennings said he’s already discussed a treatment plan with an expert. It requires regular treatment for at least a year. We can’t leave." Yvette shook her head, wiping her tears.
Caden’s hand slowly dropped, then punched the wall weakly.
It’s all his incompetence.
"Brother... Summers still needs to go to school. Let’s not run." Yvette managed a smile, trying to appear less frightened. "Ethan Grant said he would protect us. He promised to protect us."
Caden’s face grew dark. "He’s going to protect us? Is he a philanthropist? Why would he protect us for nothing? Yvette... what did you promise him? And Henry Jennings? Why isn’t he taking care of you? He’s Summers’ father. What the hell is that bastard doing!"
Caden spoke with agitation. "Did he bully you... I’ll kill him, and it’ll all be over!"
Six years ago, Yvette was bullied in a hotel, and as her brother, he was powerless to do anything.
People like them were like ants, only fit to be trampled underfoot.
"Claudia Bell is Henry Jennings’ fiancée." Yvette smiled weakly.
Caden’s body instantly froze, his hands dropping powerlessly.
Ha, truly a nest of vipers and rats.
"Ethan Grant said he needs a completely obedient woman by his side to occasionally serve as a shield. Because I’m obedient and easy to dismiss later, he is willing to protect us, even if only temporarily..."
Yvette didn’t know how long Ethan Grant could protect her, probably only until he got engaged or married.
But at least it could give them some breathing room. "Ethan Grant is different from the others, brother... he won’t touch me. He doesn’t lack women."
Caden frowned, still skeptical. If Ethan Grant needed an obedient woman as a shield, there’d be thousands to choose from, so why Yvette?
"You were... his brother’s ex-fiancée. Don’t you think he might have other schemes in mind?" Caden wasn’t stupid. Given the relationship with Jayden Grant, Ethan Grant choosing Yvette seemed off, suggesting there were issues between Ethan and Jayden Grant.
Yvette fearfully clenched her hands, not daring to tell anyone that Ethan Grant’s mother was killed by Melody Crowe, fearing she’d drag Caden and Summers down with her.
"Brother... don’t meddle anymore. For now, we have no other options. Summers needs regular treatment; we can’t leave." Yvette’s voice was small, wanting to trust Ethan Grant this one time.
For the last time, placing her trust in someone.
If this time doesn’t bring the protection she needs, there’s only one path left for her.
That is death.
Once she’s gone, it would be the best choice for both Summers and Caden.
"Mom..." Inside, Summers woke up, drowsily getting out of bed, calling for mom.
In a panic, Yvette rushed into the room, wrapping Summers in a hug. "Mommy’s here."
Summers burst into tears, thinking he was dreaming. "Mom, I missed you so much."
"Mommy won’t leave again, never again." Yvette held Summers tightly, soothing him softly.
"Mom." Summers cupped Yvette’s face with his small hands, looking closely. "It’s not a dream; mommy’s back!"
Yvette laughed through her tears, finding Summers’ innocence amusing.
If there’s any meaning to life, it would be watching her son grow up.
"Mom, I missed you so much. Please don’t leave again, okay?" Summers nestled in Yvette’s arms. "Mom, I’ve been very good lately."
Caden turned his gaze away, composing himself before turning back with a smile. "Summers recently went to kindergarten. Summers is very smart and even got praised by the teacher."
"Really? Does Summers want to continue going to kindergarten?" Yvette asked, beaming with joy.
Summers was a little scared but nodded. He wanted to go to school.
"Good boy, Summers. Sleep well now. Mommy won’t leave and will always be with you."
Summers lay in Yvette’s arms, not letting go.
With difficulty, Yvette picked Summers up, chuckling. "Summers has grown. Mommy can’t carry you anymore."
Summers, a bit sulky, looked at the bandage on Yvette’s neck. "Mommy’s hurt. Let me blow, and the pain will go away."
Yvette hugged Summers tightly, her voice choked. "Summers’ blow will make mommy not hurt anymore."
Rocking her son in her arms, Yvette softly hummed a lullaby.
A sister in prison taught her this lullaby. Her son had died at eight, leaving her disturbed; she’d often hum lullabies.
"Claudia Bell posted the video in the kindergarten parent group. I feared it would affect Summers, so I had him take a break from school first."
Caden spoke softly.
Yvette’s eyes darkened. "We did nothing wrong. Why should we bear the blame? Tomorrow, I’ll take Summers to school."
"The principal of Aegis International Kindergarten is said to be from the Bell Family." Caden was concerned.
"Then we’ll switch schools." Yvette didn’t want Summers to suffer any grievances.
